This was our favorite tasting of our journey! Hostess Alexandra was warm and charming and made our visit very enjoyable. Loved the ambiance and all the details that added so much to the space. The brick, huge barn door, artwork, and swings brought a warm welcome to our visit. Only dilemma was having to decide on which wines to take home. Thanks for all you do! read more

Kontos Cellars offers a wonderful wine tasting experience in Walla Walla. The tasting flight included six delicious wines, which our server, Barbara, described with humor and a self-confidence borne of her full-spectrum wine industry experience that includes working "the crush" for a full season, then moving into the tasting room. Her knowledge of Kontos Cellars wines, vineyard sources, and both varietal and blend information helped to make our tasting experience both informative and entertaining which helped us identify the 2022 Malbec for our newest wine cellar acquisition! Barbara is an absolute delight, her impromptu witty repartee is refreshing, and Kontos Cellars tasting room is a "must visit" in Walla Walla. read more

Kontos is always a great place to stop when in the area. Their wines are good, we particularly tend to enjoy their blends. Prices are very comparable to surrounding businesses, and the venue is great. Lots of seating both indoor and on their patio. Tasting included 6 wines, plus a few addition pours that were offered. Beautiful outside (covered) patio in the back, located in a center of Walla Walla downtown on the main Street. You can spot the dragonfly logo easily, so you won't miss it. We decided to stop by after three wineries and before dinner to hang out, and I could not do full tasting... but if you are full body red lovers, their cab is big and Malbec is also good. Touch sweet profile for me but juicy and plummy. Yelp has a free tasting coupon, so check this place when you are in town. read more

Had a great tasting hosted by Alexis and chatted with the winemaker who is founder's son who was there that evening. Tasty, rich wines which featured a touch more oak influence than we tend to like, but nonetheless, varietal uniqueness was expressed and we enjoyed each one. My wife really liked the sweeter white blend called Gossamer. Great winery with a fascinating and interesting story! read more

We had a wine tasting for 3 people, hosted by server Alexis who is very friendly and knowledgeable. We got a selection of 6 different wines. There is no pricing on the menu and I did not inquire the price. We each checked in on Yelp for their offer of 1 free wine tasting per check-in, and free wine tasting is extremely rare these days (yet common back in the day, before I hit 21). Among the 6 wines, I really liked the merlot and syrah. I somehow shamefully lost all my pictures I took because I forgot to save them from my story, but I will definitely return here in a future Walla Walla trip and show my friends this experience! read more

Tucked away off Rose in The Jones Building, you will find a comfortable red brick studio offering up really great wines from the Walla Walla Ava. Daughter in the 7th generation of farmers and wine makers is working today. The Fysalides sparkling wine really got us rocking from the start. Bright honey color with huge green apple. Man, I really wanted to like Kontos Cellars because the owner was incredibly friendly and personable, and it was the only winery that had a free wine tasting if you checked in on Yelp! Such great positives, so the stars are really for that. Plus, their space is really nice, especially their outdoor patio that's dog-friendly and seemed to be where most people gathered. But unfortunately, the wine just fell short for us. Kontos Cellars offers seven wines for their tasting, which is more than other wineries. The first two tastings were white wines, including one called Fysalides, which is known for their small bubbles. Unfortunately, the Fysalides was wayyy too sweet. When I took a sip of it I was very surprised by how sweet it was since it was so unexpected. Much was the case for the second white wine, Gossamer. Both of the white wines were a blend, made with chardonnay, thus, the sweet factor. The reds were A-OK. The tasting got better further into the menu, as the flavors were getting more bold. The best one by far was the last wine, the Malbec, which many people were getting bottles of. Again, love how friendly the owner was and it was cool to learn about their family background and business. But for my preference of full-bodied, savory wines, Kontos Cellars doesn't seem to be my cuppa tea...or wine in this instance. read more

Mary and I had never heard of this winery, so we stopped in to sample some wines. They have a very upscale tasting room in downtown Walla Walla, with nice outdoor patio. We tasted a variety of good wines. By far this place had the best wine, best environment and overall best experience. It was a true wine tasting, and winemaker Cameron shared bits of their family history and wine journey with each pour. Ample time between pours gave ustime to enjoy our company and decide our days agenda. The Malbec and Syrah were our hands-down favorites, and of course we bought bottles to-go. Glad we got to enjoy time with both sets of neighbors in the swanky upstairs loft, celebrating all three of our anniversaries this weekend. The loft provided very comfortable couches, extra chairs and swings mounted from the ceiling. We will definitely be back and look forward to tasting there wines again, and new releases. read more

Kontos did an excellent job of accommodating my family for a wine tasting when we were visiting the area! The interior of their tasting room is a great atmosphere with trendy decorations and a casual vibe. The upstairs loft is the perfect spot to hang out, plus the swinging chairs up there make for a great photo op. They had an delicious selection of various wines on their tastings menu, so you get to try a little of everything. We had Andy as our server and he was fantastic - super knowledgeable about the wines and very attentive. Nice tasting room in downtown Walla Walla. We visited on a weekday during COVID-19 Phase 2 restrictions, so reservations were required and seating was outside. AMBIANCE: 3.0. Outside seating was shaded and quite pleasant, especially if one has the relatively isolated 4-seat table closest to the street. SERVICE: 3.0. Professional and timely. The smartphone-friendly barcode on the tables connected to a web site that explained the wines in the tasting, which was a nice touch. WINE: 3.5. Though we didn't purchase a bottle to take home, the wines were smooth. read more

This was a cute tasting room with great wine and great service! What more would you need? The man working was really personable and friendly. I can't believe the tasting fees are only $10 around here! Where I'm from, usually 25-30 is a standard price. 7 wines total, 2 whites and 5 reds. We enjoyed all of them. Purchased bottles of our 3 favorites: Fysalides, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. I'm happy we stopped here on our first day in town! Would definitely recommend! read more

Lovely winemakers and cute tasting room in the downtown area. They have one of the latest open hours in the area and the Kontos brothers are super friendly and welcoming. If you haven't visited Kontos Cellars on 2nd Avenue in Walla Walla you are missing out on great wine with a welcoming experience. We popped in on the day before thanksgiving and enjoyed a pleasant tasting experience with Bre who is ready with knowledge of the valley, local restaurants, and the history of this family winery. There are normally 5-6 wines to taste with a $10 tasting fee refunded with a bottle purchase. This visit the 2015 Cab was my favorite with its jammy flavor. The Alatus named after the family sail boat is my standby favorite. But...get on the member list and you can purchase the Boss - a father/son collaboration wine that is out of this world. The tasting room often hosts events and music on weekends and good can be ordered from a limited menu from a near by restaurant. This location is walkable from downtown hotels and restaurants and worthy of an hour of your tasting time and putting your name in the member list!! read more

What a delightful find! We decided to pop in because of another Yelpers review and I am so glad we did. The space was so charming with a patio covered in colorful umbrellas, exposed bricks on the inside seating area, and cozy nook upstairs complete with swings! The charcuterie board was well worth the price and accompanied our bottle of delicious Syrah perfectly. Did I mention our knowledgeable and attentive wine angel? She was such a delight! But unfortunately I have the memory of a gnat and do not remember her name! Or maybe I just got lost in such a delightful memory of a wonderful time spent at Kontos. Go! At the end of tasting in the countryside, we were eager to get to town and have dinner, then try some of the tasting rooms in town, since it was my first time in Walla Walla. My friends chose Kontos because they'd been here before and really love their wines. The tasting room was the prettiest, that I'd seen, in walking past a few to get here. Upon entering, the owner gave us delectable cupcakes and then began to pour; coming to our table for each wine, so we wouldn't have to stand - after standing all day. I always prefer reds but I remember enjoying all of what we were served. I think we paid $10 but that is nothing compared to prices in Napa, or even in Oregon's wine country. Good service is always the most important aspect and it was really cool that the owner made conversation with us outside of shop talk, visting about our families and happenings about town. This is a tasting room you want to visit when staying in Walla Walla. read more

History

Established in 2008.

As second generaton winemakers, we were inspired by our father, Cliff Kontos of Fort Walla Walla Cellars. We began dreaming of this journey while on crush pads throughout the Walla Walla Valley, amongst our wheat fields overlooking the Touchet River, and relaxing in the hot tub sampling Walla Walla's finest. What were initially star gazing dreams, quickly took shape over the last few years as we could no longer ignore the opportunities that presented themselves.

Meet the Business Owner: Kontos Family ..

Chris has grown up farming wheat in the Walla Walla Valley with his family, and spent the last several years farming for himself. Kelli joined the farm partnership in 2007. Chris and Kelli were married in 1999 and have 2 daughters, Taylor and Caimbry. Kelli is a stay-at-home mom, and the moral compass for us all.

As Cab fans in Cabernet country, we expected to go straight red, but the 2025 Elizabeth Chardonnay surprised us, light, crisp, and a great opener. The 2023 Bob Healy Reserve stood out with rich dark fruit, a smooth, structured finish, and just the right touch of oak. Our host added a few extra pours along the way, and with the buy-two-bottles waiver...eight bottles later, tasting was covered. The real win was $20 flat-rate shipping, even to Hawaii, which made it easy to bring Walla Walla home with us.

We tried 5 wines...all were tasty but we particularly enjoyed the last 2... one was a 100% Cab Sauv and the other was 100% Merlot. It's rare to find wines that are 100% one varietal. They don't have a lot but what they have is high quality and crafted with care. What was really cool... was they had a rock as an example of the Rocks that are in the Rocks district. This area is covered in these rocks which are very heavy and big... and the vines seem to thrive in this environment. A Frenchman long ago saw this area and just knew that he could produce wines from grapes grown in this region.

The space is pretty small, but has a great western atmosphere and is connected to their production space, which is definitely cool to see. I didn't end up going home with any bottle either time I went, but still loved hanging in the tasting room and learning about the wines.

The outside and view was so pretty, it was in February so there was still some snow on the mountains. If you want to sit outside they do have a fire for each table and seating. The woman serving us was very nice and knowledgeable, especially for us younger people. most people are nicer to older patrons because of the money they'll bring in. As my husband and I opened the doors to the building, a hallway with an upwards ramp greeted us. To the right, views of a room full of barrels holding the wines we were about to savor. Straight ahead at the end of the "tunnel," a natural soft light gleamed through floor to ceiling windows. And this was on a cloudy day. We reached the room full of windows and it was instantly the most beautiful tasting room I'd ever seen. I was so happy to be seated in the comfy swivel chairs right next to the window. Although the sky was overcast, it was so pleasant to rest our eyes on the clouds grazing over the rolling hills of the valley. A worker asked if we would like a welcome taste of their sparkling rosé, and we happily obliged. It was delicious. Afterwards, I did the tasting with the lighter wines, while my husband did the tasting of the reds. Of course we both shared sips of everything. A different worker gave us wonderful background info and explanations of each wine we sampled. He even suggested that we try one of the wines at the temp it was given, then warm the glass with our hands for a bit to see how it tasted at that temperature. It was really neat to taste the difference. Another worker with a cool turquoise bolo tie checked in on us and refilled our glasses with water. We felt so wonderfully taken care of. Every wine was delightful, but a few stood out the most... I can't quite remember them all but I believe we really liked the Sauvignon Blanc, a Grenache, and a Cab Franc. We didn't plan on buying bottles that day, but we hope to maybe find them at a store near us. In the end, we absolutely loved our experience at Echolands and vowed we would return the next time we're in Walla Walla.

We are wine drinkers of 30 years, beginning in Italy and Oregon, and have been coming to Walla Walla for 20 years. View: 5 Tasting room/property: 5 - We had seats by the windows and appreciated the electric car chargers. Service: 4 - We love coming to Walla Walla because we often get to talk with the wine maker. This was definitely not the case here. However, our host Thea was very knowledgeable and engaging! Wine Quality: 3 - We had a white flight and a red flight. The varietals and descriptions sounded like they matched our taste perfectly, but with the extra pours 7 of 9 missed the mark. My husband even questioned if they used an odd detergent to wash their glasses. A vintner in town told us their wines are improving, so we might try again, except for the next category... Overall Impression: 2.5 - The owners are two men who live out of state. MINUS. The estate is managed organically and sustainably. PLUS. Honestly this is probably enough reason for us to not return because there are so many amazing locally owned wineries in WW with better wine.

The restrooms were spotless and stylish, and a thoughtful touch was the dark chocolate in the women's restroom, which was a lovely surprise. I really enjoyed the overall tasting experience. The tasting menu included two reds and one white, all of which were excellent. The most surprising part came at the end, when we were ready to pay and the staff informed us that the tasting was complimentary. We were genuinely shocked and grateful, and we ended up purchasing two bottles.
