Our tasting experience at Seven Hills Winery was absolutely magical and priceless. If you are visiting Walla Walla, Seven Hills is an absolute must-visit destination. It's one of my boyfriend's all-time favorite wineries, and it's easy to see why. Bobby is a truly phenomenal and talented "rockstar" status winemaker who is also incredibly personable; we deeply admire how hands on he is from the soil of the vines to the fermentation room. By blending art and science, he expertly curates the wildcards provided by mother nature each season into truly delicious masterpieces. The surprise tasting that Yvonne beautifully arranged became a truly unforgettable highlight of our trip. Seven Hills Winery and Tasting Room is near the Marcus Whitman hotel. You can actually see the hotel as you enter through the front door of the tasting room. It's also "next door"-ish to Salted Mill restaurant. Open on Sundays at 10am! WooHoo! (We had a 1:45pm flight out of Walla Walla so we were hoping to squeeze in a couple more tastings, and we found Seven Hills to be open. Not very many are open this early so we were thrilled.) I'm so glad they were because we enjoyed their tasting room and wines Very Much! The Service: Fantastic! The ladies in the tasting room were very nice and helpful. The Space: Absolutely Gorgeous, Comfortable and Inviting! I could have spent all day lounging and drinking wine here. The Wines: We tried several (mostly big bold reds) and liked 3 of them so much we bought some to have shipped home. There was no way this was fitting in my little carry on luggage. They had a few reds that are not your typical, available everywhere, reds.... Petit Verdot... usually this is a blending varietal... not too many wineries make this the Star varietal; it's usually just the supporting cast. In any case, this was quite excellent. Great depth of flavor, not too tannic, nice acidity.... I'm thinking this would be nice with some bison chili on a cold night. They also had a Carmenere... again usually a blending varietal. This one was not my favorite. It's good and shows the characteristics of the varietal nicely ... This wine was just too herbaceous and peppery for me. Their Pentad... a Bordeaux Red Blend... Fantastic. Big with Black fruits like plums and blackberries with some mocha and hints of spice like cinnamon or maybe cardamom and peppercorn. Oh.. and their Rose! Super easy to drink... just goes down so smooth. A perfect Breakfast, Brunch, Sit by the Pool wine. I got some peach, citrus notes and some light floral essence. Really just lovely. Overall... we enjoyed our time in Walla Walla very much. And we were very happy to have blown in on a cold, blustery Sunday morning to enjoy some Seven Hills Wines before we made our departure. I'm hoping to return to Walla Walla again soon and to bring friends to Seven Hills because it is truly a lovely place to relax and drink wines. read more

Friendly service and a beautiful building. Was not a fan of their bold Sauvignon Blanc but the rosé was a hit. All the reds were delicious with amazing aromas. The Malbec was a hit for us. While we enjoyed our time here it was a bit slow going and left something to be desired. Our server tried hard to educate us on the location of where each grape was grown in the area. $30 a tasting was a bit steep with very tiny pours. Overall a nice place but not somewhere we would be running back to while there are hundreds of others to try. read more

Really nice old-warehousy tasting room. My group did our tasting in a private room off to the side where the Walla Walla Wine Alliance was supposedly founded! (There's a commemorative plaque there) The wines from Seven Hills are distinctive in their refinement. They lack the funky smell of neighbouring wineries from the same Rocks region. The Syrah is especially soft and velvety. We had two guides taking us through their tour of tastes and talked to us a lot about the process, the geography, and the history of the Seven Hills (not to mention giving us FOMO for not being part of the Wine Club). Of the places we visited today seven hills stood out as our favorite. This was partly due to the wine but mostly due to the hospitality provided by Tim in the tasting room. We felt like we had our own personal sommelier. Tim was the most knowledgeable person we talked with of any of the places we visited and was able to give us all the tips and tricks throughout the valley. The wine was delicious as well. Having stopped and three different places we found we like the wine at seven hills the best, better than canvasback and spring valley. Overall we were very happy we decided to stop here and our trip would not have been the same had we missed it. We definitely will be visiting again next time we are in the valley. read more

We visited Seven Hills Winery, as we read it was one of the founding wineries in Walla Walla, so wanted to make sure to not miss out on this particular one! We had a nice time here and the wine was good. We made a reservation for a tasting, which you can do online. The reservation also holds your spot if you want to tour the facility for an additional 10 bucks. You can see on the tour the production of their wines, especially since this tasting room is located in a historic mill building. But if you just want to do the tasting, there was no pressure to do the tour, which was nice. Thus, we decided to do just the tasting. We tried the Heritage Flight, which were three reds. They also let us try a red wine from their Prestige Flight, the Klipsun Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the Red Mountain area, which turned out to be my favorite of the bunch. The Heritage Flight wines were all from the Walla Walla Valley. Nice, drinkable red wines is how I would describe the wines from Seven Hills. Space is lovely. Of all the tasting rooms in downtown Walla Walla this was my favorite for space. It was bright, well-lit and open. It seemed like the kind of place that when it gets crowded, it doesn't feel like it. They also had a large communal table in the space, which I liked. I would recommend visiting Seven Hills if in the area. read more

Across two years of visits now, Seven Hills remains my favorite tasting room in Walla Walla proper. They have a beautiful space in what appears to be reclaimed warehouse. This year, we were the first group to taste on a Saturday morning. Between the snow, the pandemic, and the early hour, we had the place to ourselves. The somm spent a lot of time with us, knew her stuff, and was full of good energy. One of the hidden delights was a side-by-side she had us do of carmenere vs. cab franc to understand the differences in those two varietals. But ultimately, any tasting room stands on the quality of its wine, and that is where Seven Hills delivers best. Last year, I was so blown away that I joined the wine club. I later quit because of how expensive it was, but this year again, the wines blew me away and I would have gladly bought all of them. As it was, I've reduced my budget and the only one I bought was the off-menu carmenere we tasted, but that was not for lack of quality. These guys make lovely, subtle, delicious wines. It's everything you love in eastern WA reds but delivered with a gentle kiss instead of overwhelming power. read more

Seven Hills was one of our first stops on a Girls' Weekend celebrating a birthday. The birthday girl had this as one of her chosen stops and the tasting room/building itself was amazing! Very spacious and I could see having a private special event in such a large and bright space (historic mill building!) When I booked our tasting, the website said to allow ~45 minutes. We had 55 minutes as our next tasting was booked an hour later. This was the trickiest part of our whole weekend, but in almost all of our stops these reservations did give us an almost private experience. When we arrived I was upfront with our server that we had another reservation an hour later. She seemed a mix of put-off and surprised, but said she could try to do a "power tasting." I couldn't figure out why we would need something like that (not to mention trying to avoid "power tasting" as that wasn't the point of our trip). Regardless we weren't turned away but later on I did suggest that the website be updated and told her that it said to allow ~ 45 minutes when we booked so I was just being courteous letting her know our next appointment. I was curious about the rose of which there was a sale on magnums! However, our wine was placed on the table a couple times without any explanation including for the rose. Our hostess was back to our table quickly but off again and I had to flag her down to ask her more about the rose. After that, she did tell us more about some of the latter wines. We tried to get our friend a glass of white wines as she really doesn't drink reds. While that was not possible she did end up graciously giving our friend more of the white wine we had tasted, which was appreciated. I ended up buying a couple bottles as there were some wines I wanted to explore more, but probably would have bought more had I enjoyed our experience more. I spent most of the 50 minutes of our stay feeling like our party of 3 was misjudged and as a result not valued. Our goal was to learn about Seven Hills wines, not have a quick tasting with little info. Seeing others' reviews I feel like our experience was an anomaly and maybe our hostess was not having a good day. For the record, we stayed about 50 minutes and it was leisurely not rushed so the 45 minutes stated on the website would definitely allow time for tasting and purchasing if desired. read more

We got a map with restaurants marked as well as other tasting rooms to visit. Be sure to try their petit verdot, really interesting and different. This is the most spacious wine tasting room I've seen. There is a lot of empty space. And the walls are white so the whole place is a bit celestial. The wine tasting was enjoyable. There were not too many people there near closing so we got a lot of attention from the staff. I wish they had more white wines but the majority of their tasting was red. They did have a summer rosé for us to sample, but that was unfortunately it. Ultimately, none of the reds worked out for us but it was still pretty cool to visit and to check out the items for sale as well. read more

This is my favorite winery for a number of reasons. The WINE: I am a very picky wine drinker, and the red wines here are the smoothest I can find. Their Cab Sauvs age beautifully. I found a 10-year-old bottle of Cab Sauv, Seven Hills Vineyard, in my "cellar" and thought, "How did I miss drinking this?" What a wonderful wine. Truly wonderful Malbec, too. As for the whites, I'm not a white wine drinker at all, but I bought a couple of their Late Harvest Riesling because I adored the bottle, but then I fell in love. If it's a hot day, even if you're like me and don't favor a white, this is incredible, a very tasty wine. Someone mentioned pouring a little over vanilla ice cream for dessert when company comes over, but I haven't tried that yet. Probably because the bottle is empty before I remember to pull out the ice cream for my guests. The WINEMAKER: Casey McClellan, the winemaker, is not a new kid on the block when it comes to wines. He was one of the original winemakers in this valley. He knows his wine, and he is also a truly nice guy. The FACILITIES: Downtown and within walking distance from the Marcus Whitman Hotel in the historic Whitehouse Crawford building, the tasting room is a large open room with a view to the barrel room. During release weekends, they hold special tastings in the barrel room, and it is totally worth it to walk into that room and be surrounded by oak barrels and the smell, OH, the smell! With so many wineries in the Walla Walla area, it is hard to make a decision who to visit, but this winery will always be on my short list and should be on yours, too. read more

We visited 4 wine tasting rooms this past weekend in Walla Walla and this was my favorite one! Really wish I had bought a bottle here, but since this was our first stop I held out. This place was also the closest to Best Western where we stayed. We walked in here around 11 am. There were people tasting at the counter, so we took a seat. I think this was my favorite spot because they had a rose on the tasting menu and at the end we got to taste the Riesling as well. The lady that was pouring for us was super knowledgeable about all the wines, the wine country, and even pulled out a giant map to point things out to us. She was also I think the daughter of the owners and seemed like 2nd or 3rd generation of the winery. The Seven Hill Winery is conveniently located only a couple of blocks from the center of downtown and only one block from the Marcus Whitman Hotel and Conference Center. The wine tasting fee is $5 but this fee can be used to offset the cost of any wine that you buy. This winery has an excellent selection of whites and reds. Its Cabernet Sauvignon is always very flavorful and it produces a variety of different wines. Its whites always score well and complement many dishes. My favorites are the Carmenere and Petit Verdot at this time although the Ciel du Cheval is really smooth. I tried the Seven Hills Rosé at a local restaurant yesterday and it also tasted great with the mussels that I ordered. This winery is definitely a must visit when in downtown Walla Walla. read more

Beautiful tasting room and they were able to move up our reservation when we were ahead of schedule. They allow dogs inside which is a huge and the lady (Jackie?) is super sweet. Only 3 stars though for two reasons: the guy who served us wouldn't let my husband and I have our time together... he would continue to strike up conversation, even walking into a conversation I was having with my husband and stood there listening. It was awkward. Also, besides the Rose wine I didn't like any of other wines we tasted... to top off the experience, the guy serving us would ask what we thought of each wine and I was honest and told him I didn't like one of them because it tasted bitter to us. He responded as such, "that one does have a nice minerality on the finish." No, I said, "the finish is metallic." He awkwardly wouldn't accept my feedback . I'm not a big Merlot person, but the Merlot at Seven Hills has a place in my heart and belly. At just under thirty dollars a bottle, it stands up to any bottle twice the price. Seven Hills is located in a gorgeous old building, just off the main drag, and has some really wonderful and affordable wines. All the wine processing occurs onsite so they really are quite connected to the wines they make. This was one of our first stops after arriving in Walla Walla for the Autumn Release Weekend. Our pourer, Todd, was friendly and, once we figured out we had similar tastes in wine, he offered some excellent suggestions for other tasting rooms we might like. I'm in town for business so a single male who loves wine tasting I thought I would go for an afternoon and try a couple places. A small group of us visited Walla Walla for the first time last week and were excited to try out Seven Hills. They have been featured in our local wine subscription club recently so we were looking forward to trying their wine from the source. We are SO glad that we did. We had made reservations ahead of time with Julie, and when we arrived at the winery our whole tasting was already set up. Julie gave us a history of the winery, the area and how it grew into prominence as a wine region in Washington, then finally went into great depth regarding what we were drinking. It is blatantly obvious that passion for wine runs deep here - the proof is not only in the wine itself, but in the service as well. Do yourself a favor and make sure that Seven Hills is on your itinerary when you visit Walla Walla. The experience is an amazing one that you will not soon forget! read more

After looking at the reviews we had high expectations. Expectations not met. We were 30 feet from an outdoor check-in table when the girl working there began flapping her arms for my wife to pull up her mask. They sat us down and she said, "you're welcome to remove your mask while you taste the wine." How gracious, we generally drink and eat through our masks. They had the best reds that we tasted in Walla Walla. We both loved the Ciel du Cheval, and we got a bottle even though it had a hefty $45 price tag. The Cab Sauv was also delicious.
