I recently visited Stumpy's for the first time and was thoroughly disappointed with the experience. I had booked a bay for 7:15 PM at a cost of $120, expecting a full hour of axe throwing. Upon arrival, I was required to complete paperwork, which took about 10-15 minutes. To my dismay, this time was deducted from my reserved hour, leaving me with about 40-45 minutes of actual activity time after training. Given the high price, I expected better organization and value for my money. It's unreasonable for administrative tasks to encroach upon paid activity time. With that said I don't plan on coming back which is unfortunate because I see much more potential here. read more

Absolutely loved this place! You can bring your own alcohol which was a plus. You hand them what you'd like to drink over the counter and they place it on ice for you at no cost. All the staff seem to take safety very seriously and explain the rules to you well. They even come back during your session to check in to make sure everything is alright. Cousin's Night Out brought a party of six to Stumpy's on a Friday night and we had a lot of fun! First impression was a bit nerve wracking due to the loud banging of hatchets hitting wood targets, but I got used quickly enough. We paid our entrance fees ($40 a person, but we had a 10% discount for having dined at Tipsy Toboggan next door and presenting our receipt - check the Stumpy's website for all deals and events, there's a lot going on there!) and signed liability waivers. Joe went over all the rules very thoroughly and we were taken to our "pit" (Patriots Pit, yay!). He demonstrated the correct and incorrect ways to throw the hatchets and stayed nearby for a while to assist, but he wasn't up all in our faces which was nice. We had two hours at our pit to hang out, throw, and enjoy refreshments. They allow you to BYO wine and/or beer and I also saw some folks eating wings that I'm assuming they brought as well (I can't vouch for their policy on food, though, so check first). They also have bottled drinks and snack foods available for purchase. We brought a few bottles of beer and the front desk staff put it in a bucket with ice and took it to our pit area. There are a couple of high-top tables with stools for multiple pits, but there was enough room for all to feel comfortable. There's also a small couch with ambient lighting and hip, comfy chairs in a corner with a Jenga set. A group settled in to play that after their throwing session was over and it was nice that they had the option to continue to chill and not be rushed out. Overall, this was a fun, positive experience. I wouldn't do it all the time, but for a fun night out with a big group, it's a terrific time. And the BYOBeverage policy makes this fairly affordable considering the amount of time you have to throw. Also, the space is pretty great! Plenty of parking outside and lots of Instragram-worthy walls and items inside. Just to see the Lizzie Borden wall alone is worth a visit! The staff went above and beyond to make sure we learned how to throw properly and talking us through how to throw and all the safety tips. As well as the front desk staff who were super friendly and inviting! We went during October which is breast cancer awareness month and we got free pink Stumpy's coozies! Also got complimentary goldfish and pretzels. It is being your own liquor but they will put it on ice and make sure you have all you need. They are fast and kind and don't even seem annoyed with your questions or with what you may need. They also have many seating areas with jumbo Jenga, connect 4 and test your punch games to hang out when your done throwing. Perfect for date night, friend groups, or absolutely anything! Threw the axe, hit the target, now I love it Sounds simple, kinda boring, etc. But it's challenging and also hilarious to see you and your friends attempt get the target. This was our first time axe throwing and we had such a great time for date night. We had a 7:00 time slot here and then dinner across the parking lot at 8:30. We ended up coming right back after our meal for another hour and they were more than welcoming! BYOB which is awesome. They provide ice and small snacks for free. I LOVE Stumpy's Hatchet House. I know this is part of a a franchise with lots of locations all over the US but the Fall River location has a special, local vibe to it that makes it seem like it's truly unique. The giant, modern looking Lizzie Borden mural in the front really makes it feel authentic to the area. There's lots of Groupons and deals available so don't let the high entry price on the site put you off from going. It's BYOB and really fun with a 2-6 people to throw with. It took me awhile to get going but after I figured out how to distribute my weight I was landing axes in no time. Good place to go out and have some fun at. I went with a party of 4 and we brought some beverages of our liking and the staff took them and put them in a galvanized tub filled with ice that kept them cold . You sign a waiver and go over some safety stuff and techniques and then your off to 1 of the throwing pits. They will go over some more throwing techniques but won't hold you back from jumping right in and throwing. Our tub of drinks was on a table right at our pit which had some stools to sit on and hang out while waiting for your turn to throw. They had music playing and there is a tv as well. I can surely say is we all had fun and were comfortable hanging out there while throwing hatchets. Will definitely be going back again. We had a party of 6 and although the place was decorated nicely and the staff was very polite and attentive, the layout killed the experience. Having been to other axe throwing places for some fun, this was a tight, cramped space for 6 people. We were so crammed together we couldn't even conversate, rather we were all on guard to ensure we didnt get hit with an axe. Two of the party were always split apart from the other two just to clear room for the two throwing the axes. In addition to having little to no space, the axes are extremely dull, we had to use all our might to get an axe to stick, while the majority of the group couldn't get any to stick which makes for a not so fun time. As said prior, we have been to multiple axe throwing places and always just lobbed the axe with little strength as it would stick due to the sharpness and quality of the axe. We all agreed when we left we would rather drive over an hour to Boston just to go to the places there as it's an enjoyable experience and this, for the majority, was not. Also, to note, if you get the front or the back of the target throwing, those are awesome, if you get the middle 4 like we did, then it sucks. read more
