I have been going to Joy for almost a year now. I have always felt relaxed with Joy and the service she provides. My biggest concern was that I was beginning to show hair loss. I noticed about a year ago that I seemed to be seeing more of my scalp on top. I discussed my concern with Joy and she was very upfront about the causes that could be causing it. I have been twice when she was in downtown. She did a good job cutting and listening. However, the coloring was bad so bad I had to re dye it! I went a second time and in her house. Lets say this experience was the worst. It smells like cigar smoke and it was weirdly set sup with extension for her sink. I asked for a short cut and got basically a mullet and uneven cuts. I ended going to a different person to help. Spent bunch of money to make my hair look nomal and not redneck. Months have past now since my cut with her. Im having problems still will hair growth. She was very accessible leading up to my appointment, asking for pictures of what I had in mind in advance so she could do my updo in the most timely way, guaranteeing I could arrive at the wedding venue on time for early pictures. This was especially appreciated because the Bluffton Christmas parade was going on during the same time, causing my appointment to have to be a bit later in the day. I am visiting from Orange County, CA to meet up with my family from New England. I made an appointment with Joy and Dennis at Style It Salon for two blow outs and make-up for my niece and myself. I scheduled a photo shoot with a local photographer so that we could get a new family photo and wanted to get a bit fancied up. My niece is18 years old but is on the autism spectrum and sometimes rocks, paces and self soothes herself. My niece doesn't like to comb her hair or get it washed much so she came into the salon looking like she recently went through a wind storm! Joy and Dennis were absolutely amazing with her. They both made this anxious young adult feel comfortable and transformed her into a beauty. Joy's make-up techniques are timeless and not over the top which I wanted. Dennis was a pro in doing our blow outs and we both looked so polished. I have extensions in my hair and Dennis knew exactly how to navigate them with expertise. I loved Joy and Dennis's personalities as they were warm and welcoming. I would absolutely recommend this hair salon to others and will return when I visit Bluffton. I booked style it salon for a formal event. Joy never showed up and never called to inform me she wasn't going to show. I have screen shots of our communication where she told me she would be out to my hotel after a wedding session and she ghosted me, left me high and dry! If she would have told me she wasn't coming I could have made other arrangements but NO! Apparently she had more important things to do besides show up for a client waiting for her services. I have the privilege of wintering on Hilton Head. Unfortunately, finding a hair dresser that meets your standards that you're only going to use once or twice a year isn't easy. I actually came upon Joy by mistake. I thought I had scheduled at a different salon in Bluffton, but the first time I arrived there three years ago, I felt very comfortable. I have a pretty simple hair style, yet Joy listened to what I wanted and my concerns. Being there just yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised that we connected immediately and she remembered how I wanted my hair to look - straight!. Joy did my hair and makeup for my wedding in May, it was awesome that they came to my hotel and helped us get ready in our room! It took all of the stress off of having to drive somewhere (we got married at the Marriott beachfront!) she was calming and funny and we shared some good laughs when I was stressed out!! Went to get my hair highlighted. Joy was friendly and seemed to know what she was doing. Lighting was bad and my highlighted hair looked okay in the salon. I got home and the first thing my kids said was mommy your hair looks yellow. I went into the bathroom and took a closer look and yes, the highlights were yellow where they didn't process properly. There were also spots where dye leaked and I had splotchy lines and very sloppy looking. Worst highlights I've ever had. I had to go to another salon the next day and spend $200 to fix the mistakes made. The stylist at the other salon asked me if the person who did my hair was new or inexperienced and couldn't believe a professional had messed up so badly. So frustrating to have to spend over $400 from highlights here and then repairs at another salon. Only positive was that the haircut was nicely done. read more

Joy is so amazing. She was very responsive to all of my emails and typically replied within 1 day. I had a hair style figured out and drove to HHI for the final preparations about 1 month prior. She did the test run and I loved it. After doing some last minute searching, I saw a hair style I wanted to showcase the length of my hair. I sent her a picture and she did it perfectly on my wedding day. My make-up was wonderful because it stayed all day and was still on the morning after... best of all I didn't look fake and I just looked like an enhanced version of myself.
