I was very iffy because I needed a cut and deep conditioning treatment but many people overly cut hair sometimes. I went to Judith and the first thing I fell in love with was her bubbly personality, it is seriously amazing and brought rays of sunshine to my day! She had me sit in the seat and really got to know my hair, she felt the texture, checked my scalp, asked about my previous history and asked what kinds of products I used. I was seriously impressed on Judith's screening of hair as I've never seen anyone complete such a check up on hair before they do it. It was as if a doctor was asking for my medical history but instead it was my hair stylist and it was about my hair's health. After the screening she reviewed with me how much she would be cutting as I told her to cut anything dead, it ended up being 3 inches and I was sad but at that point Judith earned my full trust! She washed my hair and even put in an amazing deep conditioner in my hair. Judith had me sit in the seat confirmed if I wanted a straight cut or layer and began to cut my hair, what I really loved is that Judith had me stand up and move to the side after my cut to make sure it looked good from every angle and that she didn't miss anything. I love Judith's personality, suggestions she provides, her methods, techniques and her profession. She is passionate about what she does and it really shows in her work! This review is in reference to her shockingly poor customer service, not the salon itself or any of the other stylists. Due to COVID-19, appointments could no longer be scheduled using the app, clients were required to e-mail stylists in order to schedule, completely understandable. On August 12, 2020, I had an appointment scheduled for 11:00 am, upon arrival at the salon, there was a notice posted on the door that Shy had a personal emergency and would have to reschedule. I live about 30 minutes away from the salon, and although disappointed that I wouldn't be getting my hair styled that day as expected, I was more concerned that my stylist was ok and in good health. I emailed Shy before driving back home, I said I hoped that everything was ok and to please let me know when I could reschedule. A few days pass, it's now Saturday, August 15, and I haven't received an e-mail response, so I decided to call her other location, Fells Point, because I'm not sure if Shy was still experiencing an emergency and I didn't want to be a bother. I was able to get an appointment with another stylist at the Fells Point location the very next day, perfect! It's Sunday, my service appointment went well, to my surprise Shy called the stylist who serviced me and told her to give me a 40% discount, it wasn't unexpected, but I appreciated her doing that. Later Sunday evening, Shy emailed me and apologized for the cancellation, again appreciated the personalized customer service. We emailed back and forth about my current style and discussed ideas about what I wanted to do next. During the conversation, Shy informed me that she'll be back to work fully starting the first week of September and that online booking would be back up as well. Fast forward to August 21, I happened to be browsing the app and noticed that a few September dates had opened up - one of those dates being the 9th, so I thought maybe she opened her book early, but I wasn't sure so I decided to email her for clarity - I desperately needed an appointment for September 4th as I have an event to attend on the 5th, so I emailed her to see if she had any availability on that day, as since the beginning of the pandemic, this has been our primary source of communication. Her auto-reply says to give her 24 hours for a response, again me not wanting to be a bother, I wanted to give her ample time to respond. On the morning of August 25, I decided to call the Federal Hill location, because I really need to secure an appointment for my upcoming event. A woman answers the phone and I'm greeted with "Shy Watters Hair Studio," I asked "hey, is this Shy," she responds "yes, may I ask who's calling" and in a jokingly manner, I responded "hey, this is Nickole don't mean to stalk you," and then the line immediately disconnects. I'm thinking it must be a mistake, Shy wouldn't hang up on me, what would be the reason? I'm just calling to get clarity on her availability. I called back 45 minutes later just to be sure, and received no answer. And to date, she has not replied to my email from August 21. I'm writing this review as a buyer beware, yes, the salon is great, Shy does do great work, that is not up for debate. However, the way that she handled the situation was poorly done and in bad taste. I have never experienced such terrible customer service. Unfortunately, I will no longer be able to support her salon or brand. Hanging up on customers (unwarranted, might I add) is unacceptable and unprofessional. Treat your clients with more respect.

Miss Lisa runs a salon that is all of that and some! She is extremely professional and takes her craft seriously. All her weave styles are installed to last at least 3 months! Which is amazing. I have been to so many hair weave salon where professionalism and customer comfort is not a priority. Miss Lisa ensures that she schedules her appointments so that you arent waiting and she doesn't try to take advantage of you. While I was away, my daughter called to let me know that Courtney had mentioned any additional styling would incur extra costs. I instructed her to wait for my return before making any decisions. When I arrived, Courtney said any extra styling would start at $100. I checked the service description and told her that coiling or raking the hair and diffusion or hair dryer were included for $30. Additionally, I added a conditioning and protein treatment. After that, she agreed and attempted to complete the job. Courtney informed me that the salon only had mousse available for styling. I expressed my concern about whether that would be sufficient for coiling, and she assured me it would be. Courtney began styling my daughter's hair but paused for about 15 minutes to address another customer. She mentioned that removing the heat damage from my daughter's hair would result in a shorter style, and that sometimes heat-damaged hair can revert to a curly state. Unfortunately, the final result lacked definition. The damage looked worse, and my daughter's hair was damp and puffy at the roots. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the outcome. Courtney explained that diffusion doesn't fully dry hair and suggested using gel for better definition, but the salon did not carry any. She also offered to use curling rods on the heat-damaged hair at the front and to place her under the dryer. Courtney proposed a $20 discount after consulting with Brittany over the phone in the back of the salon. She stated that I would need to get the gel myself so she could correct the style. We left to get the gel and decided against the corrections due to time constraints. I returned and requested to speak with Brittany or pay $30 until I could discuss the situation with her. Courtney claimed Brittany was unavailable and threatened to call the police if I left without paying. Ultimately, I paid the $60 and canceled my upcoming appointment with Brittany. I sent photos showing my daughter's hair before and after we attempted to fix it at home. I do not intend to return to the salon for future appointments.

I am not trying to be rude, but the young lady braiding my hair had a bad odor, in which another patron that mentioned outlo. I sat and waited 30 mins for the actual stylist , Brittney, to complete the install. She sewed my hair in and was distracted the entire time. She was on the phone pausing to text/answer calls and working with a contractor that was there in person. When my hair was finished, I told her I did not like it as I could see the weft of the hair. She told me she could change how the top weft was sewn in and she did, which still didn't help. Neither of us had time in our schedule that day, So she told me I could come back if I really couldn't make it work. The next morning I let her know I was uncomfortable with the hair and would like it taken down as offered and redone as a basic sew in. We exchanged texts back and forth and ultimately I was unhappy and requested for the style to be taken down. I was rescheduled for today for 12:30. As I was on the way I received a text asking to be pushed back 45 min later at 1:15. I arrived only to find out that she was having her nails done. I could tell she was running short on time based on her phone conversation telling someone she would let them know how she is doing on time. During the appointment she was on her laptop and phone handling whatever business. A few times strands of my hair were pulled and I let her know which seemed to irritate her but the last appointment, I kept quiet and just dealt with it. Which left sores in my scalp. She only took out the front of my hair and I stopped her and informed her I was expecting a take down a reinstall. She said she was confused and we never talked about it. I then showed her the texts. She then said she didn't have time to do that and next time she wouldn't charge me for the take down and would discount the sew in. I said ok. She still was preoccupied during this interaction and said she would text me a few openings she had once she was done on the phone. I said ok and left only to receive a text stating that I would be refunded $101 and would no longer be serviced in the future. Which is fine because I had no intention on returning. I was never rude or disrespectful. I mean I appreciate the refund but the time wasted is irreplaceable. Her suite is dirty and unorganized and the cleaning products used are way too strong. She seems like a nice person but maybe needs an assistant.
