I retired from Suburban propane many years ago with the HR department. I recently visited Bethany beach to purchase some property. Two suburban propane employees were at the house next to us . I went to the property next door to ask a few questions.One gentlemen was sleeping in his truck with the motor running . The other ignored my husband and I . Neither one of those gentlemen had a uniform on. No name tags on their shirt and no company logo . I then followed the gentleman over to his truck and wanted to ask him what the code was in this area with an undeground tank . I walked around his truck that looked like it never had been washed. Had political stickers on the front and the back Of the truck meanwhile someone wrote FJB on the door panel . NOTE the other technician was still sleeping in his truck and had no idea of what day or month it was when I finally asked him to move his truck in front of our property. I will be reporting this to Whippany as soon as I can . I would be embarrassed as a manager of this CSC that employees represent my office read more

I've been a customer a full year now. If I had it do all over again I WOULDN'T! Now I've got two more agonizing years of a contract I should never have entered. The accounting of this business is absurd. There's just no other word for it. My tank was filled first week of November. I've carried a credit on my acct for a year. So, when the receipt for the gas fill was left in my door, I KNEW that's not what I owed. I, as with anything else over that past 50 years, will pay it when everything is accounted for and I receive a final bill after the credit. Oh, nooooooo. That didn't happen. I got a bill a couple of days ago about 10 days after the tank fill and not only is my credit NOT shown, it has no credit shown AT ALL. So, I go onto the website and THAT amount is different from the bill I received AND it's got a late charge on it!!!! For what??? I paid the amount on the bill I received. NOT the website. NOT the receipt left in my door. I don't know WTH they're doing but it makes zero sense. I can't wait to be rid of this company. Word To The Wise: BEWARE this 'business'! read more

I'd give less than one star if I could. My mother passed away January 2015 after which my husband and I moved into her house. Within a month or two I notified the company of her death and to put my name on her account. I was contacted a few times to sign a contract with them and I advised them I wouldn't be doing that. Since then I've contacted the company several times to change the name over to the answer of "sign the contract". My mothers estate was settled January 2016. Since then, they have continued to send me bills, disconnect my tank and refused to come get their tank. Yes, there are companies that don't require a contract. Every time I contact the company they say they will do what I requested. After months, the tank is still here and I continue to get billed. read more

Over priced, Poor service, and unfair billing practices

I recently used Suburban Propane to put in a new gas line. I used them since they supply my propane gas. I was not available when the work was done. The gas regulator was placed on a post 3 feet in front of and facing the front door and 2 feet off the ground. It is the first thing you see as you leave the house and perfect for small children to play with. When I told the contractor this was unacceptable and needed to be moved, the work was done. The regulator was put in a proper place but I was charged for the additional labor. During our conversation about the moving of the regulator the additional cost was never mentioned. I understood that the contractor realized an error in judgement had occurred by his staff. Do not use Suburban Propane to do your work. Some might say the error was done on purpose for the extra charge. read more

Shocking business practices. Purchased a home in DE and contacted Suburban on 21 Oct 2015 asking to set up an account and get propane delivery; tank was very low and was serviced by Suburban for the previous owner. Was told it would take some time for the credit check. Called back a week later and was told there was no record of my application - applied again. Hearing nothing from Suburban, called another company who took my information, came to my home the next day for an assessment and filled my tank two days later. Suburban called me just before Christmas (that's right - TWO months later) asking about my request for their propane services. I thanked them for their prompt response and said no thank you. After Christmas they contacted me again. This time to discuss their removal of my propane tank which - to me - came across clearly as a threat to use Suburban 'or else'. When I replied that I owned the tank (conveyed with property) with evidence including a print out of Suburban's own records, the call ended abruptly. UNBELIEVABLE. read more
