We attended an event called Blue Monday with Jack Civiletto (Chicago Jack) leading the group. Each week has a guest singer. This week it was Rod Nickson. This was followed by an open blues jam session where other local blues musicians are welcome to join in. Reserved seating is recommended with other tables available depending on the crowd. There's limited but good food menu and reasonably priced drink menu. Enjoyable fun night. If you're not into blues (which I love!) You can check their calendar for other option. We come to listen to the best of the best of Western New York's Blues performers, most of which are in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Our latest visit here was for the 2022 Lafayette Tap Room Reunion party. Anyone that remembers the Tap Room at the Lafayette Hotel on Washington St should remember how Blues nights packed the house. This reunion was the same. Packed with musicians taking turns on stage and music fans filling the venue. There is always a reasonably priced food menu and a fair priced bar. In Buffalo, we're lucky to have so many older historic buildings finding contemporary uses. It's a…read moretestament to change and innovation. Whether that's Silo City Rocks, The Pierce Arrow Building, Statler City or many more...the ALT Theater is one of the more unique performance spaces that I've set foot in. Finding the actual Theater itself is a bit of a challenge. It's on Great Arrow Ave (making a right from Elmwood) and since the Pierce Arrow Building is so huge, it may take a while to find the actual door to the Theater. The entrance to get it is adjacent to the one of the parking lots. You then have to get up to the third floor to find your way into the actual performance space (lots of signage is helpful!). How amazing it is that a former luxury car assembled their vehicles in this building? And now it's home to two Theater spaces (ALT and Subversive), a film studio and hosts incredible events such as the Mass Appeal fashion show? I'm gushing about the Pierce Arrow building being put to good use, but let's get back to the ALT. It dubs itself as a black box Theater, although the show that I saw here ended up almost being setup as a proscenium of sorts, which shows that there is flexibility with the way you can use the space and engage the audience. Surprisingly, it was pretty warm here (The Pierce Arrow Building is nearly 133,000 square feet so most parts of it are not heated or accessible). It's focus is on experimental Theater (self-proclaimed as a hub for experimentation and innovation). The sound and acoustics were wired well for this particular show. One of the challenges is actually finding the space and navigating the Pierce Arrow Building (I actually got lost as I was trying to get out of the building and ended up in some creepy maintenance rooms), but it's part of the fun. You practically get a crash course in Urban Exploration when you go see a show here. If you've never experienced the ALT or the Pierce Arrow Building in any form, I urge you to check out their shows and find one that you think you'd enjoy!

This has always been my favorite theatre in Buffalo, from the days of Studio Arena to 710 to…read moreMusicalfare. It has had some very nice changes since becoming 710/Musicalfare. The lobby has expanded with the bar having moved to the other side of the lobby into a space that was not there before and the old bar area is now filled with tables and chairs where patrons can sit comfortably while waiting for the theatre to open. The seats inside the theatre have always been very comfortable. I do not remember there being cup holders attached the back of the seat in front of me, so that might be part of the upgrade. The rows are spaced so that one can easily cross in front of a seated patron without the patron having to stand up. The steps are also more gradual than in the old Musicalfare Theatre, and well lighted. By the way, we were there to see "Jesus Christ, Superstar", a great production.

This was my first time at Shea's 710. It is a lively theater with good view and good acoustics from…read morealmost all the seats, and the seat is roomy and comfortable. However, the people working at the theater seemed not being trained well. I had my e ticket in my phone wallet, she didn't know how to scan it and kept telling me I need to get it from my "wallet" but it was in my " wallet". She insisted on seeing a barcode so I had to get it from my email to show her. Later, while I was waiting for the door to open, I overheard another person showing her how to scan. Apparently, everyone had the same on their tickets with her. The play " Dial M for Murder" was nicely done, kudos to the director and the actors.

My family and I had the pleasure of watching the "Pericles: Prince of Tyre" play this July and it…read morewas a wonderful, family- and budget-friendly experience! Great acting and a beautiful stage. It was clear by the turnout that it is a popular event in the area. We brought a blanket and picnic and got there right on time while still being able to find a good place to sit. The most difficult part was finding decent parking. We had to park about a 10-min walk away, so be prepared!

For this play our seats were on the very top balcony. This means 4 flights of stairs!. Ha ha, you better be in shape for that walk. It was high up but ee actually had a perfect view of the stage. Shea's is celebrating it's 100 birthday and up until this point has had no elevators. They're now in the process of adding an addition which will include elevators. Since it's an addition it won't take away from the original charm of the building. If somehow you live in the Buffalo area and have never been to Shea's you really need to check it out. At 6 the doors were finally opened to sit down and hear about the season. It is now 6:15. The organ is still playing; there is no evidence of someone coming out to talk about the '26-'27 season. There are vendors in the lobby, selling beer, water, wine, popcorn. Nothing complimentary. 6:32 and the first speakers have appeared. Very disorganized. The presentation was a bit lengthy, but very nice. Each of the seven shows in the subscriber series was introduced. Guest artists performed songs from two musicals in the subscription: "Sound of Music" and "The Great Gatsby". There are three additional shows which are not part of the subscription, but to which subscribers can purchase tickets ahead of the general public. The presentation lasted about an hour.

We had season tickets for the past several years. However, since the Pandemic everything seems to…read morehave fallen apart. The plays used to be full length and entertaining but the past two seasons have been like the whole organization is circling the drain. Everything from super short performances to one woman shows to bad and boring subject matter. In addition, now they have lost their lease with Damien Collage, had a failed attempt at using taxpayer money to move to another location in Amherst and are now moving to downtown Buffalo with no free parking and a risk of personal safety. We feel this last season was worth less than 50% of what they charged us. For all these reasons we are not renewing our season tickets. Based on the half empty seats it's obvious that other season ticket holders also don't feel it's worth it anymore.

Fantastic cast, great songs, and lots of laughs. After the show, a few of the cast members continued to entertain us in their cabaret/bar. Community Theater at its finest! This was not my first show here and it won't be my last…read more Everything I have seen is fantastic from front to back of house. They have a couple of pre-sale ticket locations but being from out of town I can not access those sites easily. I do wish they had online sales for convenience but there has always been tickets available at the door so I don't stress out about it. Before the show you can peruse through giant scrap books with past shows and other theater information. It is cool to be able to look through a troupes history. Enjoy a snack any time as refreshments are sold before and during intermission. Just follow theater etiquette and try to keep the wrapper rustling to a minimum. Their home is in the Sheridan Parkside Community center which is an old school. The only slight flaw is that the seats are less than ideal due to the age of the facilities, but they are currently raising money to renovate the seating so I expect that issue to be resolved in the coming year. I believe all shows run two weekends at least and they often offer dinner theater on opening night of some shows. The acting is supurb, the sets are stellar and it has always been a great night of entertainment. I encourage you to support Towne Players, support your community and support the arts. It is worth it!
