Bistro On 2nd Street - House side salad with ranch dressing.

Ann went straight for her favorite, the shrimp and grits, because according to her, Bistro on 2nd Street has some of the best around. Ryleigh had the fried shrimp with waffle fries and slaw, and judging by how fast her plate disappeared, I'd say she approved. The food and service have been excellent every single time we've been there, and tonight was no exception. Ryleigh kept us entertained on the drive with her riddles, which might have been the only thing harder to figure out than deciding what to order.

Arriving at 6 p.m., we found plenty of street parking in front of the restaurant. The dining room was half full, and we were promptly seated. The dining room was a long and skinny space with a bar running down one side. It was not well-lit, and the candles on each table were not lit, which was a bit of a bummer. For a space with many hard services and high ceilings, the sound levels were surprisingly low, making it easy to converse at our table. We were warmly greeted by our server, who hooked us up with drinks. The drink menu had a good variety of beer, wine, and cocktails including numerous wines by the glass. The food menu had a good selection of dishes at various price ranges. My Aunt ordered the mushroom chicken pasta dish. She loved the chicken, pasta, and other bits but thought everything was drowned in the cream sauce. It did look more like soup to me when served to her. My wife went with shrimp and grits. She is a sucker for grits when traveling in the south. Her dish was just ok, and she had trouble finding the sautéed peppers and onions that were supposed to be in there My Uncle selected the special of the day, mahi-mahi. It was probably the best dish we ordered, and he loved it. I started with a house side salad that was very fresh and delicious. The ranch dressing was served very cold in a metal ramekin which was perfect. My entree of the grilled steak sandwich was disappointing. It just wasn't flavorful, and the sautéed veggies I picked for my side were served cold. Overall, it's a good place to eat in Cheraw, but there's plenty of room for improvement.

It is in downtown Monroe with street parking and some public parking lots. Our daughter said she has been there around 11:00am and got a spot on the street right in front. It is very eclectic with decor and items for sale. They have indoor seating, seating along entrance hall and outdoor seating. You order at one counter, which has a large menu boards above the counter. The young lady that took our order was very nice. You pay over at the bar area. It was not busy at the time we were there. I had the Salad Sandwich. You can get it with chicken salad, tuna salad or chickLESS salad. I had the chicken salad in a spinach wrap with lettuce and tomato. There are other bread options. The wrap was filled with the chicken salad. It was nicely seasoned and tasted really good. My husband and daughter both did the Pick Your Burger, a build your own. My husband had the burger with bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions and pepper jack cheese. My daughter added bacon, lettuce, grilled onions and provolone cheese. They both said it was a great burger. We enjoyed our food. Definitely will come back.

As a…read morebusiness their specialty is made to order charcuterie boards and they boast a large selection of locally sourced cheeses and meats. Inside however they also have a market featuring lots of local products, and a sit down cafe serving up salads and toasted sandwiches. I came in here on a quiet Sunday afternoon and we elected to sit outside in their walled in patio area. It was a pleasant place to sit and our service was prompt and friendly. For my sandwich I chose the turkey chipotle bacon without the tomatoes. The sandwich tasted great and the bread was toasted nicely. If I have one complaint it's that for $14.00 I think the sandwich could have been a bit bigger, or maybe I was just too hungry because I scarfed it down in an instant! Still the chips that accompanied it were a good snack and I enjoyed my meal. This is definitely a good spot to grab a lunch, I wish I had more time and I would have enjoyed the opportunity to browse their market. Matthews has a lot of great locally owned spots and this is for sure one of them.

There is plenty of space and tables for dining.I ordered the burger and fries. The burger came with onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and banana peppers with your choice of cheddar or provolone cheese. As you can see, I chose cheddar, and I added bacon. The burger had one small strip of bacon, about two small pieces of banana pepper, and about two small round pickles; it was a bit disappointing because they skimped on those toppings for the size of the burger. Overall, the burger was okay. The fries were like crispy fries. I did like that they were hot. I noticed something was on the plate near the fries, so I didn't eat many after that. I honestly was starving, so I was grateful for the little bit I did eat, but yeah, it was not as pleasing as I would have hoped for in a meal here.

It's right next to a gas station and the name...well...let's just say I had questions. Usually it's the places that are a hole in the wall and dives that are the best, though. Let me just say...after I ordered my sandwich and saw that it came with pickles, I was already a happy camper before I tried the sandwich. That was probably around four years ago. Then I took a bite...and it was unlike any sandwich I'd ever had before. It did get a little messy, but what's good food without it being a little messy? Honestly, I'm kind of a mess so it probably had something to do with that. Four years later - nothing had changed. I love going there to get a sandwich when I'm in the area. I just wish they were open a little later. My top three picks are the Birdie, Greek, and Real Italian. You can't go wrong with any of them. I've also tried the Wally, Sand, Pitching, Flip, Original, and New Yorker (sometimes a family member will let me try some of their sandwich...and vice versa). All great. There is just something about my top three though. I love that they are made fresh to order, that you can customize them, that they have an option for gluten free bread, and unsweetened or sweet tea (their unsweetened tea is delicious). I usually get an extra pickle when I remember. They have decent selections for sides as well. Nothing like a good sandwich from Wedgies and a cool drink in the summer! I do wish for more drink and side options...but that's me being super nit-picky. Get yourself a sandwich from Wedgies! You won't be sorry. Sometimes, calling ahead or placing an order ahead is the best way to go because it's usually very busy. Give a nice smile to all the kind people there as well. They do work hard!

Yes, the bread is quite peculiar but it's delicious, and the stuff between the "slices" is equally good as well as plentiful. I went with the Real Italian and found it full of flavor.
