I remember when this used to be the Sanitary Cafe and Harry ran the place. He had a small display case with some of his old military stuff in it from when he was in World War 2. I was happy to see the stainless steel wall cover still there behind the counter. I met a friend of mine for lunch on my way to Myrtle Beach. We've been friends since 3rd Grade ! I had the Country Ham Plate with Mac-n-Cheese , Mashed Potatoes and Gravy , Roll , and Sweet Tea. He had the Patty Melt with Fries. I love getting Country Ham when I come home to visit because we can't get it in Las Vegas. It was good , but I have to say the portion was a little smaller than I expected. The Mashed Potatoes and Gravy was good , but the Mac-n-Cheese I didn't really care for. Sweet Tea was on point. My friend liked his Patty Melt and fries. He knew our waitress and she was nice enough to take a picture of us. Bennettsville is still the small town community that I remember and grew up in. I would love to see it grow again like many places have even though all the jobs moved away years ago when the factories moved overseas. My father and I walked the streets of Bennettsville everyday after he got off work and we visited many of the shopkeepers after his first heart attack to give him some exercise. He grew up in Bennettsville and never moved as many of the people that he grew up with. Bennettsville was a tight knit community then and I know the ones that I grew up with still have this place in their heart even being thousands of miles away like me.

I came here October 6 , 2021 with one of my high school friends who now lives in Laurinburg and I live in Las Vegas , Nevada. We were driving around town and reliving those days of growing up in Bennettsville and going to school there. We graduated in 1985 , Green Gremlins ! This was my fathers favorite place to get a footlong chili dog with onions and I would always get a chocolate dipped ice cream cone. So , of course I had to honor his memory and get one. Well they were out of footlongs , so I got 2 regular chili dogs with no onions for me , but we did get onion rings and french fries. I have to say they are still the best chili dogs I've had and I have been all over the country and several countries while in the Army. If you were to can that chili sauce they would make a fortune ! They now have a dining area inside , but we ate outside at one of the picnic tables near the creek. When we were in high school everyone used to ride around Dairy Dream and hangout in the back parking lot, small town living. Back in the days they only had an outside window that you would order your food and pickup from. They had picnic tables outside or you could eat in your car. The selection of food is way more than when I was a kid too. I'm so glad to see they are still in business and a local favorite. So many things from our childhood have disappeared and only live in our memories. The sign is always up high and filled with uplifting bible quotes.
