I happen to love old things; I love old Antiques, I love the old ways, I love old places , but when it comes to eating, I guess I'm a little on the picky side. Unfortunately, I didn't even make it to the booth or table because when I walked in, I walked right by a server who was sitting down at the counter which I was really excited about, I wanted to sit there because it reminded me of when my dad would take me out to the local Walgreens (or sandwich place) and we would get a little bite to eat and a sundae in a sundae glass!! Granted it is the lull of the day for a Saturday, but I was ignored and then I tried to get the attention of the guy behind the counter by walking straight past the server (whom I thought may have been off shift) but he also ignored me??? I'm not sure maybe he has a hearing impairment? I said, "excuse me " a couple of times and that's when the server Finally said she could help me. I have a sibling who is Deaf - I also know sign language so I'm not judging, I was just puzzled because I was completely ignored. It was very quiet by this time. The server who was sitting down on her phone maybe doing paperwork then turned to me to help. I asked if they were closed, thinking maybe I was too late since they were no hours posted on the door ? By this time, I had already driven over an hour or so to get here so a quick bathroom break was needed. I had seen another review that was positive online so I thought I would give it a try for a burger and some fries - pretty simple order. After going to the bathroom first and seeing the condition of the bathroom, I just decided it was not for me. I think I'm overly picky when it comes to restaurants, so I'm sure it's just me. For the first time, I decided not to take a chance and I'm seeking elsewhere to find a burger locally! I will say there were plenty of people that were here when I arrived, and they seemed happy, I just think I'm going to pass on this experience.

The owners here seem to understand that, keeping things lean and hands-on with very little hired help. As a result, the service from the husband-and-wife team is genuinely great... though when it gets busy, things can slow down. I've experienced that firsthand, and walked out once a couple years ago after a long wait...but I came back, and I'm glad I did. The food is, simply put, amazing. The pizza has that perfect charred crust you usually only find in bigger cities or on the East Coast. The Italian sodas are excellent. I've yet to try anything, from appetizers to pasta dishes, that didn't hit the mark. Prices are a bit higher than most spots in town, but the quality absolutely justifies it when it's in the budget. I've heard the name "Fancy Pizzeria" was intentional: they wanted to set the expectation that this isn't your typical greasy pizza joint... and they deliver on that, consistently. The dining area has expanded quite a bit recently, and the decor is creative and unique, with many of the dishes and utensils sourced from local thrift shops. All in all, this place stands out in Safford in the best way. I genuinely love everything about it and hope they can continue to operate in the years to come!

However, the tater tots side dish that seemed so innocuous at first were actually the star of the show! They might be the best I've ever had!
