The plants are mostly indoors and grows so lively and sustainably in recycling paper pots. A lot of potteries seems hand made with love. This shop also sells lifestyle goods such as GRIMMs toys for kids. I love the arrangement of the shop which has a good feel of the flow. Also the concept of mixing pottery and plants seems brilliant. They are small, and I brought one home a few months ago that after a few days I had to toss (after I realized) and also risked all my other plants. I stopped by early January and the tiny white fluffy mealy bugs were still very much visible. Really hope they fix this issue as I would happily spend a lot of money at this place!! Always fun to stop in. Staff don't really acknowledge your presence, but I actually prefer/don't mind that aspect. Please fix the mealy bugs situ so I can bring some orchid babies home!!!!

This is not a florist, it is a nursery with a specific focus on orchids. It was a little hard to find the first time I went there, but it was worth it. This place was made for orchid enthusiasts. They always have a huge selection of Phalaenopsis varieties (everyone does) in different sizes (miniatures and giants), but they also regularly carry Oncidium, Miltonia, Cattleya, and Dendrobium orchids. I have also found some gorgeous Paphiopedilum and Vendaeous specimens as well as many others, and the occasional surprisingly exotic and spectacular botanical. You can get beautiful potted gift orchids here, but their main focus is on growing orchids of all types and selling to both wholesale & retail customers and orchidists. If you like orchids, and are looking for rare and unusual finds, this is the place to go. To find them, follow your phone's map and you'll be led to a modest and understated sign with an arrow pointing up a hill. Proceed slowly and carefully up the hill and park to the left. You'll see 4 quonset hut-like buildings (green houses) and need to start in the left-most, which is their retail shop and has a sign on the door welcoming you. The right-most greenhouse is also open to the public, the two in the middle are not (they are growing greenhouses full of orchids that are not yet spiking). Keep in mind this is a working wholesale nursery, with a retail outlet attached (with better gift orchids than any florist), and not a flower shop, and you'll understand why it has a no-frills, utilitarian, green & organic, light-industrial feel to it. Once you get inside, you'll realize what a find this place is, with the best selection of healthy, thriving, beautiful orchids (many of which are unusual and rare) in the Bay Area. It's a really good work out, required some labor, but it's all worth it! The best part you got to learn a lot about gardening and for a good cause! Their mission and vision: Bay Area food pantries struggle to provide nutritious food for the local homeless and low-income population. In particular, fresh fruits and vegetables are rarely donated in edible condition, and higher quality produce is too expensive to purchase. The Almost Eden Garden Project grows premium-quality organic produce for several local organizations that provide meals and services for homeless and low-income families -weekly deliveries are made to Urban Ministries in Palo Alto, Bread Of Life Ministries in East Palo Alto and to the South Palo Alto Food Closet. They are looking for a lot more volunteers with opportunities: Working in the garden; Harvesting; Securing Donations; Seed Starting; Making Wooden Structures/Decorations; Providing Food For Work Days; Volunteer Recruiting and Fundraising. Wow, excellent selection of fruit trees, veggies, and annuals! I called about a specific Meyer…read morelemon tree, and Wiersig Garden Plants had it available for pick up! Don't be fooled by the nursery's small size-- they have a huge selection of items! The employees are super friendly and courteous! I also just found out they carry Curry Leaf! I haven't been able to find inexpensive, high quality curry in a while, so I'm excited to pick some up during my next visit and put it in the planters on my patio! Combine it with some Holy Basil (Tulsi), and you are ready for a steaming, delicious, fresh Indian stir fry!! I would suggest calling ahead to see what they have and make an appointment. I called and spoke with a kind woman Chris who said they had the tree I was looking for. I picked it up the next morning (it was waiting down near the pick up area for my connivence!). Note: Make sure to handle citrus trees with care (caution: thorns can be sharp!). I learned this the hard way while planting. I now have big, juicy lemons on my tree and had to give some to my neighbors. I can't wait for the tree to grow even larger!

Owner came out and said the let her know what I wanted, also saying that she didn't know what trees were there since some of them had been there for a few years, but she said they seemed to be all living. After asking the price for the tree, she said $50 but if you go away and come back it might be &5 or $100. Not an incentive. Also had asked the price for one of the other trees which she also responded that she didn't even know if was still alive and didn't know what kind of fruit it bore. A shame, I would have really liked to have had a local plant place to support. Unfortunately, I did get a healthy tree for less at SummerWinds
