Late review ~ 4/27/23 Before I drove here, I called the nursery to see if they had any ladybugs in stock. I noticed that aphids were accumulating on the rose bushes near my classroom. It was my lucky day, they had a fresh stock of ladybugs that just came in. I was told they came out of hibernation. Who knew?! So I drive there just to get some ladybugs, but I ended up walking around and checking out the pottery (not pictured) and other plants. I found the wisteria and some ground cover that's in my radar to purchase in the near future. The nursery is clean and well stocked. The employees are very nice and helpful. SummerWinds is a chain perfect for plants enthusiasts. It is somewhat on the higher end of pricing but the kind customer service and the roaming cat (or two) help make it a pleasant experience. Notably, their Christmas trees were well worth it with the 4ft tall ones priced around $45 and came with the free service of helping to rope and place the trees on the car roof. I have been here twice and I have grown to love this place. I love that they have smaller bags of soil ingredients to make my custom mix of aroid soil. Love the houseplant selection here! It's not enormous by any means, but after 30 minutes at Yamagami's down the street, it only took us 5 minutes to buy a few more house plants to add to our collection. Their outdoor offerings are plenty, though. Love the spacious nursery and the random plant posters on the walls that help us understand more about which plants would fit our overall lifestyle (i.e: posters that show different plant types that need low vs medium vs bright sunlight, posters that show best house plants) etc.) We got two 6in plants for such a great price! For a few years, my bf and I had always bypassed SummerWinds and went to Yamagami's, instead. After finally going to SummerWinds a couple of weeks ago, I can say without hesitation that they definitely have a much better selection of almost everything. The plants offered for sale at SummerWinds look healthier and their houseplants section is very nice. We also feel that the prices are more reasonable. The staff that we encountered when we stopped by a few times are always helpful and will answer any questions that you may have. We've purchased some Alderman shelling peas, Lantana and Coreopsis flowers, Fittonia and Ivy houseplants, potting soil, planter pots, and beautiful specimens of a Royal Purple Smoke tree and a couple of Japanese maple trees. During Oct. 2022, they had a number of Japanese maple trees for sale and the beauties that we liked the most and ended up getting are truly stunning! Admittedly, the one that's about 7 ft tall and around 10 years old or so was a splurge, however, she brings us real joy and clearly means much more than wasting money on any designer clothing/shoes/bags. They deliver their trees if you live within 5 miles of one of their stores for a $40 flat rate and during both times that they'd delivered to our home, the driver was very professional and courteous. We were loyal to Yamagami's Nursery for a few years (anyone who's been to this area will know the two are just a block away from each other) and their outdoor pottery is nicer, but ultimately, SummerWinds is the winner, in terms of selection of plants, health of plants and price combined. read more

Ah good old Summerwinds. There are not as many of them around these days but they are an essential part of my garden year in and year out. While I like growing from seed and lord knows we have the mild climate for it, but somethings (like tomatoes) I prefer to have some of the hard work performed by others and go for the small seedlings. Summerwinds has a seasonal rotation and a vast selection of growables. As many have noted its a one stop shop for the home gardener. This store is well laid out, has a huge selection, and as with many small business like this its customer service is its strong suit. From friendly helpful employees, and when I come it to get some fertilizer for the you know the plant, with the leaves........ THEY ALWAYS can figure out the plant no matter how bad my description is. In addition, tool, seeds, organic fertilizer, pots and just about every other garden staple can be had.. They also are competitive from a price standpoint and again the customer service is way better than the "Huh?" and tumbleweeds you get at a big box store. read more

Summerwinds is a wonderfully well rounded nursery located in Cupertino. They also have a Campbell located but the Cupertino location seems much larger. They have an amazing selection of both outdoor and indoor plants, as well as pottery, plant foods, and even an in-store grumpy cat. In comparison the Yamagami, SummerWinds plants are SO SO much healthier and vibrant. The green shine is so evident as soon as you walk in the store. The prices are clearly marked on all of the plants. The prices are very affordable with small succulent plants costing as little as $3.00. While the fruit selection is a little lacking, they make up for it in the availability of vegetables. They have everything from tomatoes, to eggplants, to mixed kale. I came here a couple of weeks ago with my colleagues to walk around and browse. One of my colleagues wanted to get planter. I told myself I already have too many plants to take care of and haven't had the time to properly take care of them. But after browsing I came across a gorgeous plant that was telling me to buy it. I didn't even read how to take care of it, didn't go on Google, I just chose the best looking one and paid for it. I got a black velvet petunia. It is black with hints of purple. After a week, more flowers bloomed. The flowers do have a velvet texture, although sticky. It is outgrowing it's planter and I need to get a new one. The store also had a nice selection of air plants, snake plant, citrus plants, so many flowers, all look healthy and well taken care of. The staff here is very friendly. I've been to the Campbell location a bunch of times, but this one is far less crowded currently and even though they practice social distancing, there has never been a wait when I've gone. They have a great collection of beautiful annual/perennial flowers and fruit trees,vines, and tropical plants. I ordered delivery for the first time and everything went smoothly. We picked out our plants at the store, they set them aside, and were able to deliver them 4 days later. The guy called exactly when they said he would, and he came in the time frame. The delivery fee is based on distance, not how much you order, so I should've gotten more! It's $40-$50 in a 5-10 mile radius. They have a rewards program where you get 5 percent off your next purchase for every 250 you spend at any SummerWinds. There's also a cute cat lounging in the middle of the store. read more

This nursery is very clean and follows the state law. Mask is required, sanitizer and wipes available on the door. They even have lavatory on the parking where you wash your hands after you shop. Staff seems friendly and nice. We came as soon as they opened. Everybody are busy cleaning, filling the plants. They also have the resident cat inside the store. Don't come close if you have COPD problem. Lol I grabbed a basket and changed my mind returned it and grabbed a cart instead. The staff sanitized my basket right away. I got herbs,seeds and flowering plants. They really take care of their plants here. They're all healthy and green. They also have tera cotta pots in different sizes. They have More supplies than Home Depot Lol. Price is reasonable except the "instagram plants like "fiddle, rubber tree, etc haha. I have been staring at my backyard a lot more lately, and really wanted to do some gardening. Also with the coming rain, and then warmer weather, it seemed like the perfect time to start some veggies. I'm not an expert gardener and so I was nervous about calling in an order. I should not have worried at all! I had the best time placing the order- the person I talked to was roaming the nursery, giving me details on what they had, helping me pick tomato plants, etc. the experience was just super friendly and fun. When I stopped to pick up my plants it was easy and safe. I drove up, gave my name, pulled into a spot and popped the trunk. They loaded everything and then I could rearrange. The plants are beautiful and healthy! I could not be happier. And now I have a nicer view out my back door and the promise of good things to eat in the future. read more

Since Yamagami's Garden Center is only a block away, I feel like the only useful way to review Summerwinds is as a comparison vs Yamagami's -- otherwise what are you really doing with your review? Long story short -- you should visit both nurseries, but park at Summerwinds since there's way better parking there. The selection seems comparable, although Summerwinds' indoor section is more spacious and better laid-out than Yamagami's. If you buy a plant and a pot, Yamagami's will repot it for free while Summerwinds will charge you $10 -- this is the only reason I'm giving the edge to Yamagami's. If you don't care about that then sure, just go to Summerwinds...but you'll probably wonder what you're missing out on just a block away. read more

Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, plants are all in great condition with many varieties and species, and good prices, and they give refunds if your plant dies. I think what I liked most about Summerwinds is the refund. If your plant dies tomorrow, next year, four years from now, bring it in along with the receipt and they refund your money. By bringing the plant back in, it allows them to inspect it on why it might've died and to see if they can inform you on what to do differently. Parking is super easy too. Huge lot, tons of spaces. It's empty in the morning tho. When checking out, they have plastic on rolls outside that you can tear off and lay in the back of your vehicle so your car doesn't get messy. This was my first lifetime visit, and I was pretty unhappy with how I was spoken to by two people, who were apparently staffers. One was an older man who said hello to me in an odd way - I literally thought I was being hit on or trolled by a customer as his tone of voice was unduly forward, and he had no sign of being an employee (no badge, apron, marked shirt or lanyard). Later on he did swoop over to mansplain needlessly and aggressively that the plant genus I was inquiring about came in "numerous varieties", as if he were scolding me or correcting some egregiously wrong claim I had made. So, still not sure, but either he is the manager/owner or a really aggressive rando. And then I went to Yamagamis and was courteously helped by a staffer who spoke to me as an equal and provided helpful and expert advice. So just be advised that summerwinds sells plants that come in "numerous varieties" in case you're the kind of plant shopper who doesn't know that and needs and wants to be lectured on it. 1 star for customer service, 4 starts for plants, I'm being generous. read more

Summery Winds Nursery has an excellent selection of plants, and I've had very good luck with the flowers, herbs, and tomato plants that I've brought home and planted in my garden. There is easy parking. The staff is helpful and I like their rewards program. I usually hold my rewards until I get 10% or 20% off and then stock up. The staff will load heavy items like soil and bark into your car. I can purchase bark and soil for cheaper at Home Depot, but I like the convenience and ease of shopping at Summer Winds. House plants are not my thing, but they have a great selection of house plants as well. read more

Each year, it becomes more difficult to find a healthy Christmas tree. They are often dry and sometimes moldy inside. A friend of mine found her tree at Summerwind and suggested that I take a look. I've been making frequent trips to SummerWinds in Campbell for years and have poured so much money into plants because I'm retired and an avid gardener. Over the past six months, I've seen low restocks at Campbell so I started venturing out further to visit Cupertino location. The staff have never been friendly here and will follow you around, stare at you in an unfriendly way like you are going to steal plants. Good grief. My daughter came in to help me return a plant that I purchased and she was mistreated by a staff name Evan. Apparently, It's okay for us to make purchases, but not returns. He didn't value our time and caused us to wait nearly forty minutes and was staring down her cart to which she had receipts for. I am appalled at his rude behavior, how he along with other young staffs gathered around to bully one person, in disbelief that SummerWinds hired someone of this crass Evan's character. My daughter left this place in tears. Learn to treat people with more decency and respect. Now that I've read a few reviews with similar experiences on here, it seems to be the environment expected at this place. I feel discriminated here as an Asian American. read more

Brought my $150 purchase to the register; used the adjacent restroom first. While in the restroom, an employee 'jiggled' the locked-door handle. Same employee stood outside the door as I exited and stared at me. She then went over to the cashier and whispered to her. Then cashier looked over at me, even staring after my purchase. Discrimination and racial -profiling at its best. To Summerwinds: "If you don't want customers to use the restroom, put a sign on the door." To the 2 scumbag female employees: "Have a bad day". Stuff here are good but the cashier is terrible. We have visited plenty of nurseries before and this is the first one where the cashier suspected that we pull leaves directly from succulents. This is also the first cashier we see who can put the wrong phone number several times when we were enrolling the membership. She even white-lied that it is not the first time she saw us there when she finally figured out that we have already registered, given the fact that it is the first time we visited this store (we visited the other one all the time). Ok, each SummerWinds Nursery is quite different. They may all carry plants, trees, soil, and gardening supplies. Each one carries more plants, or trees, then the other. Each one also carries more specific plants and trees. This SummerWinds Nursery carried more plants, then trees. This SummerWinds also seemed smaller then some of them. Staff did not help me load the trees into my car. I also told them to call specific branches to see if a certain tree was at another location. They were unable to do so. They did call, but it seemed like the person on the receiving line of the phone call, had no idea what the person was asking for. She said there was no other way to look it up other then the barcode and the name given. The name given on the tag did not match the register. So, the other worker, had no idea what was being asked. There has to be another way for a staff member to call and see if that specific tree or plant is there with the right label. I was quite disappointed because I drove to like 4 SummerWinds to find a specific tree. Yes, I did find them. But not all the SummerWinds carried them. So, PLEASE SUMMERWINDS, fix this. read more
