I actually bought from here a year ago. I was actually recommended to go to this place by the nursery down the street which I thought was nice of them. My plant I bought a year ago did so well I came back to buy another. I had considered going to closer nurseries, but I didn't see any hanging plants. I like that the plants have labels - I got a calibrachoa hanging basket which are like small petunias. I like the different color combinations they have. There were also some blood red fuchsias calling to me and I might got back for those. While looking around, I saw lots of plants labeled as deer-resistant which is apt for the area. They have more interesting varieties than you normally find at Home Depot. They also have lots of plants for landscaping and other bigger plants like roses, etc. There were customers consulting with workers for landscaping projects. The workers were friendly. No one asked me if I needed help which I appreciated - I'm an independent woman and if I need help I know how to ask for it. But they were around doing work. The indoor store portion has a variety of items. Last time I got preying mantises (which hatched) and lady bugs (which flew away after a few hours). There are also indoor house plants and gift-like items if you're shopping for a plant person. I also like that this is in a shopping complex where I can do other things - I got food for my dog from Petco and ordered papusas from the El Salvadorean taco place on the corner. I will have to try the more local nurseries, but currently this is my favorite one in the area. read more

Wonderful, wide selection of bare root roses, fruit trees and fruiting bushes and vines. Everything is neatly arranged. The staff of very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They will trim back the bare root fruit tree so that it's ready to be planted. I have bought bare root multi grafted fruit trees ( pluot and peach) and hybrid roses from them. I met a friend there and hit the motherlode - they just got their shipment of bare root roses that morning! We were like kids in a candy shop. There was this one guy that was in the rose section and he was SO helpful and made us feel very welcome from the time we picked out our plants and pots up to and even during our exit after paying. I think his name was Brian or Fred or something of the sort and he helped us prune the bare root plants, looked into buying some of their used flower pots, brought me my soil after we purchased and tied the bags in the parking lot to keep the roses moist for both me and my friend. He was so very very nice and helpful - dare I say PROACTIVE in trying to assist us without it being creepy?! Ok, enough about him. The rest of the shop was A-OK. The selection isn't as great but I was able to get what I needed and spent WAY too much money on plants. Lastly, it's a neighborhood nursery and that scores extra points in my book for staying around and being just a joy to anyone who stops by. read more

We've started up vegetable beds twice over the last few years, and both times we started our efforts at this local nursery. There's an entire wall of flower and vegetable seeds inside, along with every sort of fertilizer you might be interested in. The outdoor area out back has a huge selection of plants, including a lot of vegetables. The small water features and the wandering cat (at least as of a few years ago) give this nursery a whimsical feeling. We got a couple heirloom tomato plants, a few flowering plants, a good selection of seeds, some gloves, and some garden labels the last time we were here. The plants our thriving (for now) in our backyard. I'm excited to see what our harvest looks like this year, but unfortunately the kids probably won't be all that excited about vegetables, even if they are home-grown. read more

I stopped in specifically to find string of pearls which I've spent WEEKS looking for. All of their cacti were healthy and beautiful . I have been very disappointed with Wegman's over the last few years. It seems to be going down hill, which is so sad. I have been shopping there for decades, and used to really love it, but everything (people, plants, policies) have greatly deteriorated. I like to support family business, but I can no longer support Wegman's. I am a Master Gardener, professional vegetable gardener and teach veggie gardening. I purchased a grafted cucumber plant, just to give it a try. At the same time I planted (in the same bed, same water, etc) four other cucumber plants, which are thriving. The grafted one died a slow death. It was very expensive ($11.99 for a 4"), so I brought it back. And they told me their new policy, no returns after 7 days. That is not a realistic policy for plants, that is not how plants work. If they are cared for, they take weeks, even months to not prosper. I have found the staff rude and unknowlegable. I have heard them push insecticides and pesticides onto to people. I am sorry to say, they are putting profit above people and plants. :( read more

They have some very cool pots and plants. They have 3 foot tall strawberry planters that I've never seen before. I can imagine that they would look nice on the deck brimming with strawberries for your kids to pick. They had some great plants including a purple poppy that I didn't know would grow to be 5 ft tall! Both poppy plants were bought in November 2018 5.99 each and the pictures were taken in May 2019. So be prepared to wait but oh the results were glorious! Ps. Secret hint: they will order plants and trees that they don't have in stock. I wanted a Buddha's hand citron and they ordered it for me. One week later for 64.99$ I got a very healthy little citrus tree. read more

Wegman's staff were nice in helping me load the tree, I will give them that. I would really love to support this business but I really can't ever shop there again in good conscience. They build these ridiculous Christmas tree stands that are an absurd notion, and aren't something that any reasonable person would do or expect: They shoot nails through the bottom of the plastic basin (into the tree stump) that is meant to hold the water for the tree. I think 5th graders everywhere would probably say that you shouldn't expect to put a nail into a water tight basin and expect it to hold water. They also nail boards into the tree from the stand to "secure" the tree. The end result is that you take a tree home and put water in the bowl as instructed, only to wake up the next morning with the water having leaked all over the place. Luckily I had tools to remove the tree from their stand, but I don't know if the average person would be willing or able. I had to cut the tree out of the stand. Only when I got the tree out did I see what an absurdly bad idea their ramshackle Christmas tree stands are. They should not sell these and I'm in utter shock that anyone signed off on this idea. I just called wegman's and gave this feedback to the manager who claimed that they tell everyone they could leak. I promised her that this was not stated to me and then she claimed that it's plastered around the cash registers. I also highly doubt this and there are various distractions everywhere at the checkout stand so I highly doubt anyone would see this. (If it even existed). By the way, it's the base of a Christmas tree and is not very visible, so someone shouldn't be expected to have to determine how poorly these stands are designed and constructed. We have drywall damage and floor damage from this ridiculous experience. How on earth they could put out a product like this with a straight face is beyond me. I suggest avoiding them for a Christmas tree unless you wish to buy another stand, spend 30 minutes removing it from their ramshackle stand, and then spending the effort to clean up the leaked water. read more

I know nothing about plants and do not have a green thumb. I'm always at risk of unintentionally killing a plant that I own. Yet, I yearn to have an assortment of plants in my home. The employees at Wegman's are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I have visited a few times and have asked many questions that are always answered thoroughly. On my most recent visit, I asked for an indoor plant that is hard to kill and ended up purchasing an ivy plant. I've also purchased potting soil from them as well. My plants are thriving and I'm crossing my fingers that they stay that way. Prices are also reasonable and there's a wide assortment of plants. read more

TLDR: Ok indoor plant selection, needs more in their plant collection; Indoor plant conditions could be a lot better; Large outdoor plant selection; Outdoor plant information/help provided; Expensive I was in Palo Alto with my mom and since we were in the area, I thought I'd take the chance to check out the place since it was the only one on Yelp that was still local and open at the time. I was excited to hopefully add a plant to my collection and seeing good reviews on Yelp. However, upon browsing their indoor plant selection, was quite disappointed. I didn't expect to visit often due to distance, but now definetly will not make the effort towards making a trip. The store is next to a 7-11 and located down the block from another plant nursery (M&M Nursery). The store inside was relatively on the smaller side whereas the garden was quite spacious. Overall, it looked like a cute nursery. Due to limited time, I focused most of my attention when browsing on the indoor plants. Their indoor plants were a somewhat decent collection. I still consider it a small variety of plants and I was expecting more selection. Some of the pots would list names but no prices. When I would ask an employee, they seemed annoyed with me. No one really offered me any help or asked if I had questions. The plants seemed overpriced compared to what I have seen at other plant nurseries. If you're on a budget and/or just starting out, that is very intimidating. Most of the plants they had were larger, and therefore more expensive. The lowest prices I could find was $10 for small snake plants and pothos plants. They carried different varieties of pothos, but all their leaves looked sad and damaged. Their more matured pothos had healthy leaves and were $25 which isn't too bad. Not expensive, but not cheap. Their money trees were selling for $20. To continue, I found fiddle leaf figs ranging from $80-$200, yet their leaves were brown on the edges. Prices may not be extremely over the top, but definitely could be less than what they are priced. I quickly browsed the outdoor plants and I am not as familiar with outdoor breeds. The area was quite spacious and there was a lot to browse. What I did enjoy is that the plants were organized and the plants would have some form of identification. For instance, the succulents had sticks for each type and some care details. The other plants would have a page with the common name, the scientific name, some details to learn about the plant (origin, etc.), how they grow and how to care, and recommendations. This was useful! Since I was rushing through, I acknowledge that my review might be harsher since I didn't get to spend the time completely looking through all the plants. Regardless, the experience I did have felt mediocre. I think there is potential and they have much to improve on. Their outdoor plants are much stronger in quality, collection, and help. read more

He listened to our issues, looked at the photos, took into consideration some time constraints we have in getting our yard upgraded and made excellent recommendations that we think will look great. I recently drove from Santa Cruz to check out Wegman's after seeing so many people rave about them on a Bay Area gardening forum that I belong to. It was just as amazing as people had said. The color and variety of plants they carry is unmatched. I purchased a large order to use in a garden competition at my local county fair. The staff were so very helpful and knowledgeable and they had so much to choose from. I had Wegman's keep custody of my flowering plants for a week before the competition started because I knew they'd keep them in good health better that I could...which I was right about. I picked everything up in great condition, even in the midst of a triple digit heat wave. I am overall very impressed with Wegman's and I will continue to shop there. The hour drive for me will be well worth it! I ended up getting 1st place and Best In Show on my garden. I saw the judges score cards afterwards and all boxes relating to plant color, health and beauty were scored 10/10 Nice job Wegman's! read more

I brought my sons to pick up their first indoor plants. 12yo got an indoor ivy. Success. 9 yo got a ficus. Complete failure. Ficus started dropping leaves as soon as we got home. Suspecting lack of light, I moved the new ficus right next to an old ficus which is thriving. The old ficus was bought from OSH. Nothing fancy. We watered both once a week, away from drafty windows, and even tried humidifier, grow lights after the leaf dropping persists. After ten weeks, the ficus is basically dying. I took it back to the nursery. They tried their best to help but revealed to me that these braided ficus don't last very long. I give this a five star because they are a small business and I don't want to hurt them. But I wish they would not sell plants they know won't last. Also they should call a spade a spade. This plant was dead on arrival because the trunk was already dying. It was just a matter of time before the rest of the foliage falls. I would still shop there in order to support a small local business. I just hope they would drop this particular grower. It was a defective product. read more

We bought a hydrangea two weeks ago. Within five days, the still-potted plant developed black splotches on the leaves. With a week, leaves started wilting. We discussed with manager. He said it was due to overwatering. Refused to take responsibility. It looks like Wegmans has a history of selling diseased plants and then refusing to acknowledge a problem on their part. Not the mark of a credible vendor. Too bad. Wegmans used to be a responsible vendor. Beware. Likelihood of getting a sick plant is high here. Likelihood of Wegmans saying "not my problem" is assured here. read more

I am a frequent visitor to Wegman's, primarily purchasing plants for my clients. On August 21st, I was looking for white Japanese anemones and found three available. All three looked unhealthy (yellow and curling leaves). I pointed it out to one of the employees and showed him that the plants had been infested by caterpillars (the reason for the curling leaves). I expected that the plants would have been removed for sale, but instead was told that if I wanted to purchase them I should purchase an insecticide, spray the plants and also feed them to address the yellow leaves. Really? Wegman's is not cheap and I am surprised they thought it was my responsibility to address the issue of the sick plants. Needless to say, I went to another nursery and purchased the plants I needed. read more

I came in for planters, I had bought some about a month ago. I didn't know they had a valued customer plan. Till I heard one of the cashiers ask a customer for their phone number. That was after greeting them vey nicely. " Hey how ya doing good to see you blah blah blah. No one acknowledged I was even in the store. I couldn't find the planters, when my turn was up at the register I asked the gentleman about the planters. He said they were out and back ordered, he didn't know when they would come in. He also didn't ask ask if I had a valued customer account. I didn't remember about it till I was on my way home. I spent over 1K for a landscaping project and bought a ton of plants from here. Two of the perennials when dead in 2 weeks, completely dried out. They got the same water, soil etc, compared to all other plants. When I took them back, the manager failed to take it back, pinned the cause to my lack of watering even though the soil was completely damp and I was attending to it every day. While the total cost of those plants were less than 5% of my entire purchase, they just don't stand behind their promise, don't know how to treat customers and left a bad taste. I Now Have Heard It All! As I am waiting for the next cashier to ring me up and the lady in front of me tells her cashier she wants a replacement for a plant a gopher ate in her own yard. This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Wegman's Nursery is the Best Nursery in the entire Bay Area. They might be on the pricey side but the plants are of Quality and are Beautifully maintained. Their Staff is Friendly, Helpful and they have staff members that are knowledgeable about plants. This is a Nursery where you buy plants, that you & me the "customers" take home. It is now in your care, so shame on you if you return plants that have been eaten by a gopher or you missed a watering and the plant died. A beautiful nursery with lovely staff and so much patience. Wegman's is close to home and has served me well for the last 10 years. They have a large lot and great variety. I especially like their selection of potted garden vegetables. I took the family this weekend to get some for our raised bed. I was hoping I would find at least one variety of heirloom tomato. They had five or six ! Sweet! My only issue with Wegman's is the ability to get expert help. It's true that the owners and some of the staff are very good, but the other half of the staff seems to be made up of part-timers and students who don't know as much. I spent 30 minutes here last year trying to get help in purchasing a young tree for my back yard; one that wouldn't get too big. The young guy who helped me didn't seem to have a clue. After some guessing on his part (and a lot more questions from me), he finally got someone who knew more, but that gentleman bordered on rude. I ended up leaving and going to Redwood City Nursery to find my tree. But this is not the norm, and typically I can get someone to help me, though I usually have to spend time seeking out the staff. The parking lot is relatively small and can get zoo-like on nice weekends. There is another parking lot for the strip mall next door. It is separated by a wall, however, so you will not be able to roll your wagon to your car. read more
