If you choose this doctor as your primary care physician prepare to have serious difficulties getting a first appointment, and if you have a serious urgent health matter, you are simply out of luck. They like to schedule out new patients many months in advance, if you call in summer, you might have the opportunity to be seen in early fall. Also, prepare to be questioned heavily whether or not she is really your primary care physician. They want to see a picture of your insurance card, and if you send it they may still have issues with sccipa or what have you. I have an urgent health matter, where an unstable ankle continues to grind both of my achilles into the ground from overload, I am losing more and more of my mobility, and I need a referral to an orthopedic specialist urgently. They couldn't do it. Yesterday I got an appointment for next week, it was cancelled twice, and then I got heavily questioned whether or not I was really their patient. They expected proof of my insurance card, and told me they were going to give me a curtesy call back once they resolved issues on their end. It's just a bad experience to have this doctor as your pcp and then keep having to proof that you deserve to get an appointment in a timely manner that would make sense for your health. Their severe insurance issues sounded semi plausible to me, but then I was somehow able to schedule an appointment with a different provider right away, before I even switched to them as my pcp, my mind was blown! This goes to show this clinic is unnecessarily difficult to work with and extremely unwelcoming to new patients. I don't know about the doctor herself, I never got the chance to see her within a reasonable timeframe. If you have months to spare, you might have a better experience than I did, I can only speak for my own stressful, disappointing experience and the unhelpful front staff that tried to tell me I needed to wait many months to be seen for a referral for an urgent serious health matter. Horrible! Edit: I blame the doctor herself first and foremost, I believe she has great influence over how her appointments are being handled. Delaying necessary medical care is causing medical harm, often irreversible. If you have her as a pcp she may cause you direct medical harm by letting her staff (the guy who is the manager in particular) block you from accessing your specialist in time, because you cannot see her for a referral, and she is the only one able to make it unless you can switch your pcp! I told them I can't walk, I have a degenerative condition, it's urgent, they didn't care and refused to book me, since I am "not established" with them, but she was my assigned doctor by my insurance! The medical board should review them, I don't think they should be allowed to be anyone's new primary care physician. read more

Dr. Karupaiah has been my sleep apnea doctor for several years now. She's always prompt, professional and has a caring bedside manner. She always listens to my concerns and provides professional feedback. She is always attentive during my appointment and I never feel like she's trying to rush me out the door as I have experienced with other physicians. I trust her and have confidence in her abilities to the extent that I have also requested she become my primary care physician. Her staff has always been professional, and I even received courtesy calls to remind me of upcoming appointments and any other changes to my care protocol. I've also had two sleep studies over the last several years conducted at her practice. Richard is very knowledgeable in sleep study, is professional and efficient. He explains in detail the process of placement of all the connections and what to expect during the overnight study. He also is very professional, friendly and patient . My wife will not be using them for her sleep study sessions. She didn't appreciate that they claimed to contact her several times when this wasn't the case and the fear tactic letter they sent out left her with a sour taste in her experience in dealing with them so far. "Wednesday afternoon - my doctor puts in the referral to the sleep clinic. Friday - Someone from the clinic calls and leaves a message saying to call next week to book an appointment. Says that the office is currently closed. Monday - I call the office and book an appointment (after being put on hold for like 15 minutes) Wednesday - I get 2 letters from the clinic. One is postmarked on Friday - the same day they called me for the FIRST AND ONLY TIME. The letter that says they tried to "contact me several times" and blatantly uses scare tactics to get my attention. (The second letter included the date of my appointment with new patient intake forms. Literally they didn't even wait one business day since contacting me to send their rude scare tactic letter.)" read more

Dr. Karupaiah is very knowledgeable, keen listener, provides good advise and so overall a good experience. She patiently listens to our issue, explains next steps, what to expect from the study or use of equipment, patiently explains the result of study or status of the usage of equipment, and follow ups. She even is a primary care specialist however she now focuses on sleep study more due to the huge backlog for care in bay area. Above all, her fees are very reasonable. The quality of care and the fee is unbeatable in terms of overall value. There are few negative comments about front office staff and follow ups. In my several appointments so far, I have had great experience with the staff reminding about appointments, courteous in person and over phone, and following up. The scheduling and equipment collection was a breeze and the follow up with inquiring either future appointments or insurance or any such related tasks was good too. I found Dr. K through United Health Care network and what a treasure she is! I lost my beloved brother unnaturally. I was depressed and did not have any motivation to lead. Dr. K is such a kind hearted person who offered me a great counselling and medication. Dreadful service. Receptionist is rude and dismissive. AVOID THIS PLACE!! Called due to recent move and needed to locate a new primary care physician. Called and explained to receptionist. Her response was "HMO or PPO?" I told her it was called the Aetna's Executive plan and she said "Probably HMO. We can't help you. I'm booking into January". Then she promptly hung up on me. So, checked my coverage and my plan is PPO and even if it was HMO, that's not the way I would want anyone to be treated. Clearly the receptionist has been taught to simply fish for the best patients and not offer quality care. Aren't these doctors supposed to take an oath to look after people? Lol Turns out I have the top PPO coverage offered and they still managed to treat me like garbage. Dr. Karupaiah is wonderful, she listens and takes the time you need. She diagnosed my sleep apnea a few months ago and I started using my CPAP machine 3 months ago and I love it! I can feel that I am actually getting rest when I am sleeping. I don't wake up each morning so tired I just want to cry. I know that it will only get better and I will feel more rested. Dr. Karupaiah, is amazing. The quality of care I got from her was exceptional. Very kind, patient, and willing to answer any of my questions, and go over in detail the data from my sleep study and CPAP. I went to her after a very frustrating experience with another sleep clinic. Dr. Karupaiah's staff got my records from the other clinic within less than an hour, and immediately put in a request for a CPAP machine. I believe she's rolled over her previous staff, so I wouldn't put much stock in older reviews. And yes, she does actually train them, I know because a new hire called to confirm my appointment, and was very transparent with me about having the regular receptionist there to double check everything he did. Bottom line, I think Dr Dr. Karupaiah does listen to feedback, and takes her practice very seriously. All in all, this is a great place. I am really glad to have found it. read more

Even though I only came in for appointments a couple times a year, she always remembered my medical issues. On the rare occasion when I paged her after hours, she always got back to me right away. I chose this office because I prefer a female doctor. All my needs have been more than met. If you are in need of a kind, caring, and knowledgable primary care physician, I would highly recommend this practice. Everyone here is kind and so helpful. She coordinates well with the other disciplines I am seeing and ensures my medications and blood work is completed. I came in for another test to sleep with the cpap machine and the next day I felt a lot better than before, full of energy. She took her time to answer my questions about the sleep study test. Front office really bums me out every time I go in, they seem unhappy to see me. The doctor is awesome and has a great attitude, but the front office really makes me not want to go back to this office. I don't like feeling like I'm a nuisance to people. I'll probably have to find another group because I sincerely believe patients need to be met with care from the time they arrive to the time they leave.
