My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday and told me it was going to be a 'special treat'! I figured we would have a nice dinner at a new restaurant and was very happy that he had made plans to celebrate with me. Instead of just a dinner, he totally outdid himself! We arrived in Tribeca and took me to this place downstairs and when we entered I was overwhelmed. There was lovely music playing and the place was amazing! It's a perfumery called The Scentarium and the owner Sue Phillips was there and she couldn't have been more friendly or knowledgeable. I was going to create my own perfume and I was so excited! She welcomed us and served Prosecco and asked me what fragrances I liked. Then she gave me a quiz which was so much fun, and afterwards she analysed my answers. We discussed what I liked and then we went over to her perfume table and she explained all the different blends and we evaluated all of them. My boyfriend did too, and he loved some of the blends for him. In the end we both selected the blends we loved, and the fun thing was that we got to 'name' our fragrances and she explained where the ingredients came from and how to wear perfume and fragrance. It was a great experience and I love my perfume. My boyfriend also created one and Sue explained that she has many men come to The Scentarium also. It was so much fun and a great treat for any occasion. I heartily recommend it for Date night. Now I have to have my girlfriends try this too. Thank you Sue! read more

I first encountered Scenterprises at a women's networking event for my job. The event was very large, and the fragrance tables that they set up were so much fun and a good ice breaker. When it came time to plan my bridal shower, I wanted to do something different. I settled on a Parisian theme, and thought that having a custom fragrance bar would be a perfect addition. I immediately thought of Scenterprises. Scenterprises was a HUGE hit at my bridal shower this past weekend in NYC! Sue and her team set up a beautiful fragrance table and my guests really enjoyed making their own custom scent as a favor. I received so many compliments about the fragrance table. Sue is great to work with and extremely responsive. She arrived early and everything was set up well in advance of my guests arriving. Her and her team gave each of my guests individualized attention to help them create a custom scent. Then, while we were eating, her team mixed all of the scents and handed them out to each of my guests. I didn't have to worry about a thing! Each perfume was placed in a nice cloth carrying bag, which was customized to match my event. She also keeps track of each guest's custom blend in case they want to order more in the future. In a very tranquil and cozy setting you can experience an extraordinary feat of self-discovery. Sue takes you on a voyage of fragrance design while exploring your hidden senses. I myself never thought that I can remotely create a wonderfully smelling fragrance bouquet, but with Sue's guidance it became absolutely possible. First, it starts with a superb quality of raw materials that make up the sensual accords. Next, Sue offers a unique lesson in selecting the correct scent composition catered to your specific palate. And finally, Sue gives a historic perspective to the world of perfume development with her astounding knowledge of fragrance history and geography. THE POWER OF PERFUME by Sue Phillips Fascinating Read. I Couldn't Put It Down! Sue is the world renowned #QueenOfFragrance and her book delivers such a compelling and fascinating history on the subject!  I learned so much and couldn't put it down.  I love how she interwove poems and quotes (Marilyn, Coco Chanel, Proust, Confucious, Vreeland) for the esprit they bring to the subject, and the facts (Chanel No. 5 is 100 years old this year!) and definitions ("aldehyde" derivation) layered in for their insights, context and information.  I've been in the industry for many years but after reading Sue's book I am all the more enamored and educated about the world of Fragrance.   I've had the pleasure of wearing Sue's custom blend perfumes and am obsessed with her Modern Rose Floral for it's complex sensuality, the memories it evokes for me, and  "sillage" it creates for others, all explained in the book. In conclusion, I highly recommend Sue's fascinating book and her exquisite perfumes.  She is a genuinely amazing woman who empowers others and truly loves to share her knowledge and passion with the world.  We just have to indulge in its luxury. read more

I visited Sue on a whim while in the city last November. I'm a lover of perfumes with "oomph", "texture", and "pizzaz" so a pilgrimage to a seasoned artisan of the olfactory arts such as Sue was a must-do for me. She invited me into her beautiful Upper East Side scent studio and gave me a personal, heartfelt tour of her experience and understanding of fragrance while also helping me to craft a gorgeous perfume custom to my liking. The outcome was a divine concoction I named "Crimson Lighting". I wear it a couple times a week and the staying power is divine - lasting for hours at a time and lingering a bit the next day. I get compliments whenever I wear it and, to a few friends, it's become my signature scent. It doesn't charge into the room before I do like some other loud perfumes but it gently introduces me to a space and enhances my overall aura. I surprised my best friends from London, Eunice, Nikki and Sara, during their recent visit to NYC with a trip to The Scentarium. The occasion was Sara's 50th Birthday. The intoxicating scents, the classical music and the coziness of the venue, as well as Sue's warmth, humor and astounding knowledge made for an incredible afternoon. However, what really stood out, was after 18 years of friendship, just taking our 'scent quiz' we learned new things about each other. While we gave our extraordinary perfumes - that we couldn't stop smelling! - different names, the stand out was Sara's. It was "Cherish." And that is exactly how we feel about our friendship. As Sara said, "Thank you so much for my wonderful birthday celebration!! The perfumier was fantastic!!" I recently searched the internet to find a gift for my mom's birthday. She loves fragrance and thought it would be a fun gift for her to create her own scent. I was introduced to Sue at the OLLI classes here in Sarasota and have been thoroughly enjoying the informative presentations she has been making over this 3 week period and look forward to next Wednesday as I signed up to actually create a fragrance alongside other classmates who opted to do the same. I wore Je Rivens by Worth when I lived in Chicago and bought it Marshall Fields . Fast forward many years later it was no longer in Boston department stores where I now lived ,so I found it at a small apothecary shop in nearby Harvard Square in Cambridge called the Colonial Drug but alas, this version was not the same as the one I owned previously as it no longer had any lasting power at all. I has lost my sense of smell due to Covid over a year ago. When I felt it was coming back VERY slowly, I then caught my son's cold. I lost what minor scent of smell that I had AGAIN! I read about Sue's scent therapy, and I had to try it! I received the therapy box very fast! I can't tell you how much of a journey that was for me! I went through the scents for the first round, I could only smell 10 of the 18, but went through the second round and oh my goodness I could smell 14 of 18! Some were light but I could smell them. That night I went around the house and could smell my candles, extracts, even my bar soaps! I used my therapy box morning and night, and each time I could smell more and even precisely pick out a certain scent in the 18 perfume bottles of the therapy scent box. I can't tell you how much money I've spent over the years buying perfume in department stores. Take them home and then decide I don't like them because i have that strange body chemistry that turns many fragrances "sharp" and not soft, powdery, and warm which is what i want. Made an appointment and when i arrived, felt so comfortable and welcome in her beautiful studio. The next 2 hours were full of beautiful scents, education, science, and warm conversation. My friend and I visited the Scentarium yesterday to create a custom perfume...but what we got was a whole lot more! The experience was amazing. The Scentarium is a lovely and relaxing jewel of a space and the owner, Sue Phillips, is the real deal when it comes to everything fragrance. She actually created the scents for Burberry and Tiffany. Sue led us on a fragrance journey; we took a fun little quiz to help determine which fragrance family we most identified with and then sampled 18 different scents to ultimately choose the four which would be included in our custom perfume. My friend and I created completely different perfumes (she floral, me earthy) and both were uniquely ours. I've never had a scent that is so ME! Can't wait to wear it...and visit again! My recent experience creating my very own fragrance with Sue Philips' guidance and expertise was quite interesting and fun! Sue led me through the process with encouragement, patience and a very clear and undeniable knowledge of the fragrance ingredients we explored and selected. Having used Tiffany perfume exclusively for more than 30 years, I was quite disappointed when the company announced it was being discontinued. I've had experience of making perfume with Sue before so I wanted to treat my family by taking them on the perfume journey. It was a great, fun time, and my family loves their fragrance.
