You go through security, make a right and signs on door display "Jury Room". I went from parking lot to filling out the 2 forms in the jury room in a matter of 5 minutes. From this point it's hurry up and wait. You may be there a full day 9:30 til 4:00, or a half day 9:30 til noon. If you are there a full day, chances are you will be picked for duty.....and may be there for days. They selected enough potential jurors before they got to me so I was let go at noon. Lucky. Out of about 60 people, there were only 6 left who were let go, me being one of them. The remaining take lunch, come back at 2:00 and proceed til 4. Not sure what their fate will be, but I really don't care.

I have done Jury Duty many,many times at the Criminal Courts but this was my first time here .On arrival it's the usual, go through the metal detector, get your belongings scanned, fill out some forms and go sit and wait. The employees are very friendly and helpful and they explain to everyone what the day will entail and we all watch an orientation film which helps the time go by a little faster . There is a small cafe where you can grab a bite and a coffee , it's clean and the girl at the counter is very friendly . They do have WIFi so that helps , you can use your phone and I-Pad .I also brought along a book , but for me it was a little difficult to concentrate with the TV on and people talking .By 10:00 Two groups of people were called to be interviewed with the lawyers and the rest of us continued to wait . The time seemed to go by quickly and at around 12:30 we were all told they had selected all the jurors they needed and we were all free to go. I was expecting to have to endure a long boring day but it was a nice surprise for everyone . So , all in all I had a much better experience than I've had in the past. Civic duty done!

I have a special needs daughter, who is on the spectrum, adhd, and learning disabled. This Judge should not be practicing.

When entering "her" office and she asks can I help you and I respond with a question as to a procedure that was told to me by the Clerks in Central Islip court and I'm incorrect she snapped back with an unprofessional tone and snide remark. The 2 courts are apparently not on the same page as to what is the procedure, and that's ok, CI is not Riverhead, but if the clerks in CI have it wrong she should call a supervisor in CI to advise them of the correct way, and DO NOT take it out on the person in front of you who was incorrectly advised. Your in a public office Victoria, be professional and courteous at all times.

Attended a trial here as a fact witness. I have seen many types of courthouses before under…read moresimilar circumstances. The Richard C Lee US Courthouse has an imposing and stately look to it from the outside. To enter this building you have to go through a security checkpoint. And except for attorneys, they do not allow cell phones or cameras within the building, so no photos for this review. After I was cleared through security, artificial hip and all, I was shown to a small room that was reserved for use by the defense team that I was working with. I waited there to be called to testify in the courtroom nearby where the case was being heard. This windowless room had a conference table and eight to ten chairs. With the door closed it was warm and stuffy and no thermostat in sight. Once I was called into the courtroom it was almost like going from the Sahara to Iceland! But I much preferred the icebox since I was wearing a suit and tie. Like many other courthouses I have been in, this one is massive and impressive. There are the common wooden benches for seating and tables and chairs set for plaintiff and defense teams to present their cases. There is of course the jury box (some of you may have had experience with this if you have been called for jury duty) and witness stand where I did my part, and the "bench" or desk where the judge sits and a place in front for the court reporter. I almost hate to say it but if you've seen one courthouse, you've seen them all.

Designed by architect James Reilly Gordon ca. 1911, this courthouse is a fine example of the Beaux Arts style, reflecting monuments of classical Rome and the Italian Renaissance. The building is capped by a copper-coated dome with a cupola and surmounted by a statue. The interior dome of the rotunda area of the courthouse is modeled after the Pantheon in Rome and topped with Tiffany-stained glass.
