Call me a weirdo or old fashioned or something else (no expletives) but I just love a good library…read more Growing up on Long Island in Nassau County had me frequenting one (or two) specific locations, though I had popped into other book havens within the area and always found them comforting. Though I never really had the chance to enter a Suffolk County library until I moved to Ronkonkoma and learned that my home library is the media Mecca that is Sachem. If you're at all familiar with the Best of LI awards that are divvied out each year, then you'll know that Sachem Public Library has almost exclusively won this accolade over the past decade. I honestly never cared too much about this fact because Sachem seemed so far, but now my newish abode is only 5 minutes away from this superb book spot. Even before I ever entered Sachem Library's doors I was already impressed. That's because I feared it would take some time to get a library card with my change of address and needing an updated license. Nope! Sachem allows you to register for a library card on their website and then they'll send you this little key chain library card tag to your home. I was amazed by this, and already excitedly looking forward to my first trip there. This came over the summer when they were in full swing of their reading programs, both for kids and adults. Even though the event was halfway over, I was able to easily sign up and was given a little welcome bag and a chance to win some prizes for my reading. Unfortunately, I was a little too busy this past summer to read at a speedy clip (wedding planning will do that to you), but this just added to the enjoyment of Sachem. When actually exploring the interior and what Sachem has to offer, there are tons of books, movies, video games, and programs available. I'm also massively impressed with Suffolk County's digital borrowing program over Nassau as well as what's out there to be inter-loaned from other Suffolk libraries to Sachem. My first trip there was to actually pick up a couple of movies I had ordered and came in for pickup quite quickly. That trip, the summer sign up, and my experiences since have also all resulted in friendly staff and a desire to return again and again. Overall, maybe libraries are a little outdated or they feel like something you haven't visited in years, but I promise you that Sachem Public Library has so much to offer (I forgot to mention the beautiful serene garden across the parking lot that you can walk through and read in!). It's easy to see why Sachem wins awards each year and effortlessly puts other libraries to shame (like my hometown one, sorry not sorry). So consider this library weirdo somebody who will continue to love Sachem.

One of my absolute favorite libraries. Such a beautiful place. Gorgeous central room with tons of…read morenatural light and tables to do work. There's also a community puzzle that people can drop by and work on. There's a third party cafe inside that's quite cute and has its own instagram. I was surprised to learn that the cafe hosts open mic nights! There are also a few private study rooms to reserve, but unfortunately they're only available to people who live in bayport bluepoint specifically. I wouldn't mind this, except when I was told this, all the rooms were open. It would be nice to allow others to use the rooms if they're available, and just prioritize bayport blue point residents, which is what my home library does. Tons of resources: plant seed swap, art crafts, and other offerings to be borrowed. Great community hub

I came to this library in July when I took an unexpected week off work. I was going through what I…read morethought was the worst thing ever and right now it may have actually been a good thing but in July even though I normally don't do this I felt I needed time off work or I might snap over this. So around that time I started seeing a therapist because I recognized I needed one. I had to print out paperwork, scan it and send it back to her and now I have my own printer at home but at the time I did not. The library was very helpful. I'm a librarian myself so I thought to call ahead of time and ask them about printing they told me everything I needed to know. I went in registered to use the computer, printed my papers out, filled them out, scanned them and e-mailed them and it was easier then it is a the library I work at but don't tell my co-workers that. The library is also so beautiful I could have stayed and looked at it all day.

I mean, what's not to love about this place?…read more The library is way more than books nowadays. You can rent movies, music, and even gaming consoles and other tech. You can get museum passes for locations on LI and NYC. ALL FOR FREE. (provided you register for a card in your local area). Even for a fee there's events your parents can attend, kid events. A park nearby, and a pristine building with free wifi, AC and a wonderful staff. Support your local library y'all!

Or maybe it was it just didn't have a sign? Anyway it's fabulous now. This branch of the Smithtown library has a large kids area and tons of computers for you to use in the center of the library. Everyone that works here has always been super helpful and friendly. They have a lot of activities for the children and I've seen tutoring signs for the teens. I've even donated blood during a blood drive hosted by the library. It's a great place to get some work done if you get too easily distracted in your home (me).

Their new location has much more space and they have really utilized the space well. The room for our class was large and had comfortable seating. They are sticklers for rules and timeframes. Many of us arrived 10 minutes early the way the letter directed us to but they wouldn't let us in until 9am on the dot. Wow! That was unbelievable. The guard stood at the door looking menacing barking and stating you have to wait! Everyone was perplexed because the instructor stated late comers would not be admitted to the class. What a mess. I think the library needs to rethink how they approach people who register for classes in the library. Overall a quick walkthrough of the library was pleasant. Bathrooms are very clean and smell clean. I don't know if the pressure of the crowd early in the morning intimidated the worker or guard but some employee training needs to happen there because it was ridiculous. I do like the layout of the new library and receptacles for different collections in the lobby. Once they've completely moved in I think it'll be awesome.

In stark contrast with its immediate environs, this place is straight ballin'..no lie, you know…read morethis. That being said, they were only a week off of a bedbug infestation, so I was weary to pick up the items I had on reserve, but the kind folks behind the desk quelled my fears. Quick shot off the LIE on the way home, and pretty darn spacious--might be my new go-to library. Unfortunately, they simultaneously push unreasonable policies regarding returns, which involve slowly checking each item back in while others wait on the single line regardless of your intentions, and they include two index cards (one with their unwavering, impossible-to-monitor policy) and two paper clips with each ILL. Oh, and the staff can get snappy. Ultimately, it's a near-immaculate respite for random passersby, but gets sticky when you actually want to use the services here. HUGE caveat/casualty of the environs: no dropoff box Small/should-be-irrelevant sidenote: little/no cell service (VZW)
