I feel lucky to live in the community served by this Fire Department…read more Members of this department installed my car seat when I was pregnant with my first child, my children have attended the Annual Fire Prevention Open House for years. They are very present in the community, from installing car seats, attending Halloween events, and family days, to providing free smoke detectors. Fire Safety trailers at local events, and at the schools are a regular occurrence. During emergencies, I've witnessed them provided quick and efficient responses. I feel safer knowing that these capable firefighters are protecting my community.

In Re: Hicksville Fire Department, it is very hard to put a star value on it as there are so many…read morefacets of them. Different locations, activities, volunteer services etc. For this event past Saturday, it looked to me to be pretty well run. So A 3 or 4 star applies. I had not heard or seen information about the activities done at the West John Location. I happed to go to the post office near by, along with meeting a neighbor. So we walked over half hour before 3PM when tit ended. Their trucks had good and important info on them. Their hand outs did also. ( see pix) Items like have escape routes, review/practice with family, if clothing' catches fire, stop drop and roll. All good points. As for the drama- they lite a wood box on fire up close/ do not cross this line- with fire department personnel in full garb and ready to use hoses to put it out. Everyone could see and feel the heat from the flames and then see and smell the smoke when they extinguished it. They did have some of the guys as crossing guards and that was helpful too. What I felt was missing? Nothing about pets. And maybe they had covered it as we were in on the - tail end of it. As many suburbanites have pets, also seeing the reaction of my own dog backing away from the fire area. I felt a demo and window pet stickers /save my dog- could have been a good added addition. ( something I noticed amiss even at memorial (- 911 ) services honoring All who serve and serve still today. This said as I mentioned it was a good event.

A few minutes ago I swear I thought one of my neighbor's house was seriously burning to the ground…read morebecause I heard what I thought was many fire trucks coming to the rescue! I ran outside to see it was one truck going in & out of the blocks throwing popcorn ball treats to everyone in the neighborhood!! Talk about a sense of pride in my community! Everyone was coming out of their houses to wave to & thank the fire department for their devoted & tireless efforts in keeping the residents of Hicksville safe! The truck was decorated with big candy canes & many volunteer fire fighters adorned the truck waving! They even had a fire fighter dress up as Santa Claus! I'm so humbled & impressed that I just witnessed this act of community, kindness, support, devotion & holiday spirit!! Yay Hicksville!!

This past weekend we attended the Fall Fest which always is a great time for kids and adults. For the kids- there was a bouncy house, toy vendors and a Halloween parade. For the adults- there were quite a few vendors selling personalized home goods, Long Island apparel and even a moonshine tasting booth. As always, there were great fair food options like funnel cakes, warm pretzels, pickles and the Farm to Table food truck. We spent an hour or so shopping down Main Street with a band playing as a soundtrack to our stroll. We particularly enjoyed the Miracle on Main Street last November which included so many winter festivities and ended with the Christmas Tree lighting with all of us holding candles as we celebrated. It was a magical night. Can't wait til the next event!

Tents of toy trains, tended for gingerbread house competition and winners displayed. Food vendors, Elf's creating balloons, Face Painting, Sand Art tents, Food, hot Chocolate stations, props with Christmas themes with fancy back drops for pictures!!!!! A bouncy house, Did I mention everything was F R E E with FABULOUS JOBThe exception of Food Vendors. This was by far the ABSOLUTE BEST Festival on Long Island. Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for making a REMARKABLE Holiday Event!!!!!! A huge Carousel the list is just endless mixed with Main Street shops being open, local Restaurants you were able to walk talk and enjoy the event.

Drucker, also noted, Nassau County Clerk Maureen O'Connell + NCPD 2nd & 8th Precincts Police Departments... Presented this family fair event at two locations-Syosset/Woodbury Community Park from 6-8 on Tuesday August 5th and at Bethpage High School 10 Cherry Avenue, Bethpage at 6:30pm -8:30pm. Both events had Live Music. In Syosset by 106 North and in Bethpage by Tom Chupka & Friends. The Syosset Park- event had various giveaways, treats and a variety of things to see and do there, including cotton Candy giveaways from Carnival Parties. At Cobs Bread Bakery booth yummy snacks were given out as well. I met Deputy Commissioner Jeffrey Sattali from the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management -OEM- I got a tour of their mobile van. Inside were multiple band radios for Emergency Management. Why a mobile unit? For big events as the Air Show at Jones Beach there are literally thousands of people, so the unit can be moved on location for possible needs. Giveaways here were, a CERT first aid kit (good in a car) and an infrared thermometer for the forehead to take temperature. There were various Military and Fire Department vehicles on display.(see pix) with charming, knowledgeable men explaining what they were and how they were used and yes women- one of whom I saw in an Army jeep. Party House in Woodbury is now the place to get party supplies, SPCA was there giving handouts on how to prepare before a disaster and with 2 working dogs (who love to be pet) , and there was a wonderful GS Police Officer dog on duty as well. A kids Bicycle raffle for a helmet along with bicycle safety were at one booth , A great sign done by the Interns was also on display, as were wehearyouli.org a nonprofit organization supporting families of children deaf or hard of-hearing, NY Literacy Project, and some businesses as Forging Fit with Personal Trainer Tommy DeChiaro, Rallye at rallye.com and Jersey Mikes team from their Hicksville location . A nice local event and something to look for next year.
