For those wanting to know what happens the first day.....JURY DUTY…read more Easy to find. Plenty of free parking on property. Entrance to courthouse on side of building by road. You go through security, make a right and signs on door display "Jury Room". I went from parking lot to filling out the 2 forms in the jury room in a matter of 5 minutes. From this point it's hurry up and wait. You may be there a full day 9:30 til 4:00, or a half day 9:30 til noon. If you are there a full day, chances are you will be picked for duty.....and may be there for days. They selected enough potential jurors before they got to me so I was let go at noon. Lucky. Out of about 60 people, there were only 6 left who were let go, me being one of them. The remaining take lunch, come back at 2:00 and proceed til 4. Not sure what their fate will be, but I really don't care.

I have done Jury Duty many, many times at the Criminal Courts but this was my first time here .On arrival it's the usual, go through the metal detector, get your belongings scanned, fill out some forms and go sit and wait. The employees are very friendly and helpful and they explain to everyone what the day will entail and we all watch an orientation film which helps the time go by a little faster . There is a small cafe where you can grab a bite and a coffee , it's clean and the girl at the counter is very friendly . They do have WIFi so that helps , you can use your phone and I-Pad .I also brought along a book , but for me it was a little difficult to concentrate with the TV on and people talking .By 10:00 Two groups of people were called to be interviewed with the lawyers and the rest of us continued to wait . The time seemed to go by quickly and at around 12:30 we were all told they had selected all the jurors they needed and we were all free to go. I was expecting to have to endure a long boring day but it was a nice surprise for everyone . So , all in all I had a much better experience than I've had in the past. Civic duty done!

The World's longest parking lot…read more 70.8 miles of aggravation wrapped in asphalt, the LIE will make you wonder why you want to drive back and forth every day. Dirty and perpetually congested, the L.I.E. winds from the Midtown tunnel through Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties eventually ending out in Riverhead. Heading west into the city the traffic crawls along every morning as 45 billion cars, buses and trucks try to squeeze down a road designed for maybe 80,000. The ride east is just as bad at the end of the day as everyone attempts to get home. The weekends offer some relief as do the wee hours of the morning- although this is not always true as that is the time when the road crews attempt to fix the holes - so whole sections are shut down creating traffic jams when you least expect them! HOV lanes offer nothing more than temporary relief and only serve to move the traffic jams down to where the HOV lanes merge back into the main traffic lanes. Avoid at all costs...

Between the asshole Long Island drivers, and the insane congestion here, it's completely unbearable to drive on this thoroughfare except at the wee hours of the morning. If you are driving here late at night the cops LOVE to sit at Exit 48/49 (Plainview area) and pull you over if you're going over the retarded speed limit of 55 mph. Seriously, who goes 55 mph anymore? It's a good thing I live close to the Northern State Parkway, and I almost always take that instead. The only time I ever take the LIE is when it's bad weather (raining or snowing). The LIE is less likely to flood during rain, and is almost always cleared before any other freeway in Long Island. The only time I take the LIE is if it's raining or snowing. The LIE has less propensity to flood. +1 star for that.

Unfortunately, upon arriving home, I discovered that I already owned three of the books. I will now be forced to return :D I was delighted to discover that the books are in alphabetical order! How befitting a library. The books were in great shape, too, thanks to their donation policy. There are four donation boxes near the Yellow Barn, and as I was going back and forth from my car, two nice ladies told me that they would get the cart. Much easier! They also provided a bag, which I will use for the next load of donations. A very pleasant browsing experience. They only take cash, no cards. Hardcover books are $1! I had a great time browsing. The tricky part is finding reading time. Sigh.

In my opinion, they very foolishly severed all ties with the Friends of the Library, who were doing a wonderful job . It was neat and clean, beautifully and efficiently run. And the volunteers were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It was just a pleasure to go there, and I was happy to donate many books. When I contacted the Library, they assured me several times that they will be reopening the Barn soon. But how do they intend to do that... when I understand the Friends have removed the books and are donating them to other groups. BIG MISTAKE ON THE PART OF THE LIBRARY. What is going on there????
