Finally 2009 the Saints won the Super Bowl. Their most notable player is Drew Brees. I'm always rooting for the underdogs. Besides this team steps up to help their city that has been devastated by hurricanes and more recently violence. Win or lose I'm a fan!

In terms of all-time performance, the New Orleans Saints have been mediocre. The team has a sub-500…read morerecord since their first season in 1967. However, the Saints did win Super Bowl XLIV in 2010 (2009 season). Today, there are still a dozen active NFL franchises without a Super Bowl win. Sean Payton was the head coach responsible for most of New Orleans' success. He led the team to nine postseason appearances in 15 seasons (2006-2011, 2013-2021). Seven times, the Saints finished atop the NFC South. Also, Payton never finished a single season more than one game below .500. Needless to say, with that 2010 Super Bowl win, he was a successful coach. Of course, the black eye on Payton's career was "Bountygate." From 2009 to 2011, Saints players were paid money to intentionally injure opposing players. This time period included the championship season. Ultimately, for his part in the under-the-table bounty system, the NFL suspended Payton for the entire 2012 season. He also had to forfeit some salary. Sean Payton and Drew Brees were like Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, very successful coach-quarterback combos. Brees was the Super Bowl XLIV MVP and he also won two NFL Offensive Player of the Year awards (2008 and 2011 seasons). Payton won NFL Coach of the Year his first year in New Orleans (2006). Wide receiver Michael Thomas was another standout player for Payton. He led the league in receptions for the 2018 and 2019 seasons and was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2019. Brees announced his retirement in March 2021. Payton resigned in January 2022. The 2010 Super Bowl victory was an impressive one over regular-season-MVP Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. The Saints won, 31-17. The Colts were coached by Jim Caldwell. Caldwell used to coach one of my favorite college teams, Wake Forest. He coached the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem, North Carolina from 1993 to 2000. Finally, I can't write a Yelp review about the New Orleans Saints without mentioning their oldest rival, my favorite NFL team, the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons and Saints have been rivals since 1967. The series has been close with the Falcons leading the Saints, all-time, 54-52 (at the time of writing this review). I've listened to Atlanta sports talk radio on a regular basis over the past 20-plus years and have heard my fair share of Falcons-Saints game coverage and analysis. While the Falcons have been to one more Super Bowl (two appearances) than the Saints (one appearance), the Saints are the only team between the two to have won it.

    Steve Gleason Rebirth

The city was looking for any hope they could find and they found it in a block punt by safety Steve Gleason, in the first quarter, with the game scoreless at that point, that changed the tide of the game. This statue memorializes that moment. I happened to be there for that game and it was electric. No one was beating the Saints that night. The statue, which was dedicated in 2012, actually consist of two individual sculptures each weighing 800 pounds and standing seven-and-a-half feet tall. One statue is of Atlanta punter Michael Koenen punting the ball and the other is of Gleason blocking the punt. The sculptures are mounted on granite stanchions that measure 10 feet long by four feet wide by six feet tall, putting the statue with the base at 13 feet tall. The statue was commissioned by Saints' Owner the late Tom Benson. Benson tapped sculptor Brian Hanlon to create it. During the dedication ceremony, Beson said, "This statue is symbolic of the Rebirth of our city, our region, our home, our team. This statue reminds us of a cherished night and one of the most amazing plays in the proud history of this franchise. It will be here for everyone to view coming into, out of or past the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to see and rekindle the feelings we shared that evening. This statue will be an everlasting tribute to the spirit of the 'Rebirth' legacy and what it stands for and of Steve's lasting impact on the lives he has helped touch and inspire." The statue is located on the southwest Plaza Level of the Superdome and is hard to miss. Don't worry, the Superdome plaza level is a circle, so you can't get lost. Just keep walking and the same direction and you will eventually end up where either you intended to go, or where you started. This is a very nice and detailed sculpture that stands as a symbol or rebirth for the city and Mr. Benson intended it to. I am not a Saints fan, but this is one of the iconic moments not only in the Saint's history, but the history of the NFL. This is definitely worth a visit, even if you are not attending a football game or event at the Dome. There is lots of parking options to visit the plaza. You have metered street parking, paid parking lots and paid garages all within a short walk. If you are just coming to see the statue, this will probably be a short visit and you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful attractions in the area, such as the Cancer Survivor Plaza, to maximize your time and trip.

I loved when they had the traveling fashion shows. I wish they would bring that back! This is a way to generate money for Essence. This is my second time attending the Essence Festival. I first attended in 2015. I don't remember it being this unorganized. The lines to get in were extremely long and even once you got inside. BeautyCon required a separate entry to come in. I understand keeping it separate however it should have been half of the convention center to have enough space for the attendees and vendors. Some of the vendors ran out of the free inventory. This was disappointing. For the ones that had a smooth process in the midst of the long lines and people were Camille Rose and Black Girl Vitamins. They had enough inventory and people working to move the process. I would definitely attend and support Essence again however I hope they get it figured out. We were scanned in daily and given a wrist band which it could have been an easier process. Scanned in once and input in the system. If not in the system then scanned again. The food vendors were good. I liked that they were local food vendors and had good food
