Yum! My family hits up Broad Ave on the regular (Broadway Pizza is a forever fave) and on our most recent visit we were hanging out with the crowd when one of the kids asked if we could walk down for ice cream. Ended up we had a small group go and another wave followed! All were thrilled with the flavors they chose. Appreciate the unique flavors but some of our groups went for the more familiar. I LOVED the two sorbet scoops I had -- dragonfruit & hurricane (citrus flavors) -- so much I didn't even pause for a photo.

Sugar Ghost is adorable inside--seriously, the vibe is so cute and perfect for pics. The service is always great, super friendly and quick. I'm obsessed with their soft serve, especially with the churro on top--it's such a good combo! Their boba tea is also a fave, and the boba tea floats? Game changer. One of my go-to spots when I'm craving something sweet and fun.

My visit to Sugar Ghost was all a fun coincidence! I was in town visiting a friend and she just happened to follow the sugar ghost instagram and they run a fun special where if it's your name for that day you get a scoop of ice cream (so follow them on social media to see if your name will pop up!)! Funnily it happened to be my name that single day I was in town so we went to get ice cream! I got the lavender honey scoop and it was a nice light flavor, not too sweet but not tasteless. It was a nice balance! The service was great and the staff was super fun, I asked them how many people came in with my name that day and he said not as many as he thought there would be because some days it's a lot of people. The shop itself is pretty small but super cute, I would say very picturesque and definitely a nice place to chat with friends or have a cute solo date!

Sugar Ghost is the cutest ice cream parlor in the University area. The two staff members are super friendly. Free samples! The flavors won't disappoint--they're very sweet and true to the flavor profile. My favorite are the Ube and Mud Island as the latter is generously loaded with peanut butter cup, pretzels and pecans. Hands down my favorite spot in the area.

We always love sugar ghost! New pistachio flavor I'd fantastic, especially once you start getting the nut pieces! It's a great service that they'll put your desired flavor in pints if it's not already an option. The folks are always nice and the vibe is so nice there whenever we go. Love the mural as well.

We stopped in for a treat and were pleasantly surprised by how cute the inside is! The decor is pink and so so cute. We got a scoop of the ube and mud island! Both were delicious and something that we will come back to have again! The staff were friendly and quick, even with a crowd of people all rolling in. I can't wait to visit again!

I waffled on a 3 vs. 4 for more than a week before finally deciding on a 4 -- I think my own crabbiness and frustration with my own mistakes is coloring my view a bit unfairly, so I'll round up and give this place the benefit of the doubt. I saw this place on Broad, knew we'd be in the area, and pretty much demanded that we stop so I could try some boba and ice cream -- two of my favorite treats in one spot! Parking is rough, as others described, but my husband just drove the car around in circles while I went in alone to grab my items to go. We came on a Sunday evening while in town to better see the eclipse. Despite the threat of a pretty gnarly storm, they were crazy busy. I was upset to see so many people ahead of me in line when I'd hoped to get in and get out quickly. Still, I was committed. The line moved at an average to somewhat slow pace, but the workers were doing their best -- having worked at an ice cream shop in the past, it's not their fault when multiple guests insist on trying a million different flavors, lol. The shop itself is very cute. The pink color scheme and the spooky theme lends itself to adorable selfie and aesthetic picture-taking opportunities. Wish I'd had more time to look around and take photos. Still, super cute idea and execution. Since the line was moving somewhat slowly and I was in a big rush to get out of there to try to beat the storm and also so my husband wouldn't have to keep circling the block, I thought I'd be clever and order online so perhaps my treats would be ready by the time I got to the front. Ordering online was pretty simple and I was able to make my selection and modifications and pay over the phone. But when I got to the front of the line...they didn't have my order. The staff were very polite and tried hard to find it, but it wasn't there. I felt like a pit opened up in my stomach. They asked to see my receipt/email clarification, but I didn't remember which email the receipt went to and I was in such a huge hurry/didn't want to hold the line up signing in and out of 3 different email accounts that I told them to just forget it and make my order new. So here's what actually happened: there are two Sugar Ghost locations, and I placed an online order for the one in Germantown, and not the one on Broad. Now this is 10000% my fault. BUT, this is a mistake I've made a few times with places that offer online ordering at more than one location. While I realize it's my responsibility to get the location right, I do think it would be nice to have some sort of flashier signaling so that the person ordering doesn't accidentally order for a different location. Be it location tracking or a pop-up to make sure you're certain about where you're ordering...it would help. Basically, I wound up getting the same order (different ice cream flavor since they didn't have the flavor I ordered at Germantown at the location on Broad), but I had to pay for it twice. Frustrating, even though it's my bad. Honestly, maybe the staff would've made it up to me if I'd found the confirmation email; I can't know because I was in such a hurry I didn't bother. But I can't hold what they didn't get a chance to do against them, so on to the actual product! (For what it's worth, I was impressed by their bubbly and polite demeanor even in the face of my grouchiness. I don't think I was rude/mean, but I'm sorry for being sour, y'all -- it wasn't your fault!) Anyway. I got a small brown sugar milk tea with boba and a single scoop of the Mud Island ice cream and then I rushed back out to my car in the pouring rain. Traffic was bad heading back to our hotel so I had plenty of time to eat in the car, haha. The brown sugar milk tea was fine. Like many other reviewers have noted, it is certainly quite sweet -- but I was expecting that. I liked the milk and brown sugar flavors. The boba had a nice chewy texture but a slightly floral taste that didn't go with the drink, imo. Don't really know what that was but I enjoyed it okay. The Mud Island ice cream...hm. The ice cream itself was very smooth and creamy and rich and had a nice chocolate flavor, a bit like chocolate pudding. However, the description made it sound like it had a ton of goodies in it (pretzels, caramel, chocolate chips, pecans, Reese's cups, etc) and I think I got maybe two bites with small soggy pretzel pieces in it and that was it. I was looking forward to all the "treasures" in the ice cream and I never found them. Still, the "body" of the scoop was good. Like I said, really not sure how to rate this place, so I'm erring on the side of generosity because it's not fair to hold my frustration at own mistakes against them. Perhaps I'll return the next time I'm in Memphis and I'll have a bit better luck with my ordering process.

Overall: a top place for ice cream in Memphis with its top banana pudding ice cream and an assortment of asian flavors! Inside: lots of space to sit, lots of lighting and overall spacious! Food: bubble tea is definitely the top in the area as well as their Ube ice cream and nanners ice cream. The waffle cone was kind of brittle though and with two scoops of ice cream in it, the cone cracked a-lot. Service: A Thursday Night and although there were lots of people the staff was quick and friendly.

I thought appropriate being it was so hot outside. I definitely could have been fine with one scoop but I got two. Beach Day had so many flavors in it and the two scoops in a waffle bowl was plenty. Beach Day consisted of salted vanilla flavored ice cream with milk chocolate flavored caramel-filled sea turtles, frosting flecks and swirls of graham cracker sand. It looked good and was delicious. I don't eat a lot of sweets or sugary foods so by the second scoop the sweetness and sugar overload kicked in and I had to have help to finish it. This was definitely a treat. I enjoyed it.

It is served on white bread and is filled with salami, bacon, gouda, lettuce pickle and onions. It was ok. It took forever for it to come out. People who had arrived way after us received their food quicker than we did. I had to go to the bar several times to ask about our food. Five stars simply aren't enough. This deserves twenty…read more My husband and I are food people. We travel extensively, we eat everywhere, and we've been fortunate enough to have some truly extraordinary dining experiences over the years. So when I say that Porch & Parlor may be one of the best overall restaurant experiences we've ever had, that is not something I say lightly. And it started before we even made it through the front door. The restaurant itself is absolutely charming from the outside -- whitewashed brick, Southern, understated and beautiful. But before either of us could even reach for the door handle, a gentleman appeared with the warmest smile and opened it for us. Such a tiny thing, perhaps, but it immediately set the tone for the entire evening: You are our guest, and we are delighted you're here. Inside, three lovely attendants greeted us at the front, all smiles and genuine Southern hospitality. We had reservations and were seated immediately in the most gorgeous, moody dining room. Elegant lighting, beautiful raised paneling, rich finishes -- classic steakhouse without feeling stuffy or predictable. As a miniature artist, I spent an embarrassing amount of time mentally figuring out how I could recreate those fabulous light fixtures in miniature. And then came Wade. For years -- and I mean years -- my husband and I have had a benchmark for exceptional service: a wonderful gentleman named Seth in Birmingham who was exceptional at what he did that we still talk about him. Well, Seth... you finally have competition. Wade is an absolute gem. Charming, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and incredibly intuitive, he possesses that rare ability to actually read a table. He listened. He remembered. He made recommendations without ever making us feel "sold." He helped my husband choose a bourbon, shared little tidbits and stories with us, picked up on our personalities and genuinely connected with us. And the timing of this meal was impeccable. We never once felt rushed, yet we never found ourselves wondering where the next course was. Nothing arrived too quickly. Nothing lingered too long. Wade was there exactly when we wanted him and somehow invisible when we didn't need him. The entire evening just moved along smooth as silk. That kind of service is an art, and Wade has it. Of course, none of that would matter if the food didn't deliver. It absolutely did. The steaks were phenomenal, the meal was incredible from beginning to end, and oddly enough, that fabulous bacon rack may be one of the things we talk about forever. It's delicious, ridiculous, memorable and exactly the sort of thing you want to order when you're out having a wonderful evening. By the end, we were far too full for dessert -- which naturally meant we ordered dessert. My husband knew exactly what he wanted. I was torn between two choices, so finally I told Wade, "Go into the kitchen, choose your favorite and surprise me. I don't even want to know what it is. I'll find out when I get back to the hotel." The man understood the assignment. He chose the cheesecake, and good heavens. It was lighter than a cloud, with these gorgeous cherries in a rich syrup whose tartness cut through the creamy cheesecake beautifully, alongside vanilla ice cream that somehow pulled the entire thing together. I opened that box back at the hotel and knew immediately that Wade had once again made exactly the right call. But what really makes Porch & Parlor remarkable is that Wade wasn't the exception. Every single person we encountered -- from the gentleman at the door, to the front desk, to everyone who touched our table -- was gracious, polished, welcoming and genuinely lovely. You can serve an extraordinary steak in a beautiful room and have a great restaurant. But when the hospitality is every bit as exceptional as the food, you create an experience. Porch & Parlor did exactly that. We were told this was considered one of the very best steakhouses in Tennessee. After dining there, I completely understand why. In fact, forget Tennessee. This is one of the best steakhouse experiences we've had anywhere. And Wade, if you happen to read this: Seth held that title for a very long time, young man. You earned this one. Five stars feels woefully inadequate. Give them twenty.

The produce is consistently high quality, and the overall shopping experience feels curated and elevated compared to most grocery options in the area. The luxe atmosphere understandably comes at a premium, and while the pricing can be steep, I recognize that different operating models create different price structures. That said, the meat counter can be a little confusing. While most items are priced per pound, a few are priced per piece -- a distinction that isn't immediately clear unless you study every tag. I picked up a single filet that I later learned was $25 for what appeared to be roughly an 8 oz cut. Not ideal, but even high beef prices aren't enough to keep me away from a store with this kind of selection. What will give me pause, however, is the service I received at the meat counter. The attendant working that day -- identifiable by very prominent neck tattoos -- was one of the rudest employees I've encountered in any grocery store, let alone one where items can run $50 per pound. Her initial greeting was an abrupt "What do you want?" followed immediately by turning her back to me to joke with a colleague. When she finally returned, I pointed to the steak I wanted, and she deliberately picked up a different one while giving me attitude. The entire interaction was dismissive and unnecessarily unpleasant. On my way out, I mentioned the experience to the manager, and she was wonderful -- attentive, kind, and genuinely apologetic. She assured me she would address the situation, and based on her professionalism, I believe she will. I don't enjoy commenting on customer service in Memphis, but when a store operates at such a premium, the service really does need to meet at least a baseline standard. Neutral, polite, and minimally attentive shouldn't be too much to ask. I hope this was an isolated incident, because the store itself is exceptional.
