There's a paved walk leading from the parking lot to the water and another side where you walk on grass to reach the fenced in area. It was a little confusing our first visit here as we didn't notice any clear signage directing us where to get to the water or other areas from the grassy path. Our pups enjoyed their visit very much and although the small body of water didn't look the cleanest, we still let them cool off and enjoy a swim. The picnic tables in a shaded area were appreciated on a hot day. Bring lot's of drinking water for you and your pet! Also, as with most dog parks, remember that any toys you bring for fetching are likely going to be "fair game" to the many other dogs you might see here.

Our dog had sooo much fun and even made some friends. It's not a fenced in dog park, so only take your dog if you can trust them. There is a busy road across the parking lot. They are allowed to be off leash throughout the entire forest preserve in the area before the bridge. I also love that the paths are natural and it's super foresty and shaded.

Plenty of different trails, the river, LOTS of space and beautiful scenery too. My wife and I walked around for a couple of hours while the dogs ran from one spot to the next. We made the mistake of going right when we left the parking area... Left was a better choice. But the area that is not part of the unleashed dog area is still beautiful. We walked out over the river on the newly constructed bridge and just took in the views. Then walking back we found another path back into the unleashed area which brought us to the river, which my dogs were all about, sprinting directly into the water before we could even catch up, it was a warm day. Overall I love this park, and it is well worth the trip for a nice walk. Highly recommend that anyone with a dog who loves to run, get wet, play with other dogs or just walk with you try this place!

Clean and most dog owners are friendly. To use this park you need to have a permit, which is the only bad thing about it. Bathrooms are available. It's those holes with the hollow toilets over these, so these literally stink. That's about as bad as it gets though. Ironically it smells even better in the actual dog park. Of course there's a few rules to follow, and these are posted at the entrance so you can't miss these. Bigger and smaller dogs have separate areas. There's amenities like water fountains and poop bags for free. Good place for dogs. It's mostly clean and safe. There's plenty around, from the lake to some trails.

Love this free dog park created by the Itasca Park District! It's open from sunrise to sunset…read moredaily. It borders one of the two fields of the Softball Complex East Side. Note: The website lists the address as 704 N Rohlwing Rd but that will take you too far. Try 640 N Rohlwing Rd instead if using a GPS. The parking is right by the entrance and has separate sections for small vs large dogs. The large dogs section has a second entrance/exit at the far end that connects to the walking path around the Ray Franzen Bird Sanctuary. There is also a building with bathrooms nearby, as well as picnic benches.
