Came here on a Monday for their happy hour that happens from 5pm to 6pm everyday where everything in the menu is 50% off. I am surprised this place wasn't more crowded since this was such a great deal and the food and drinks are great. Round 1: We started with the Nang Gai Tod (Deep Fried chicken skin) and Beek Gai Tod (deep fried chicken wings) both comes with a very tasty tamarind sauce. Oh my, the chicken skin was so tasty and it was freshly fried. The wings were super juicy and simple which went very well with the dipping sauce. We also ordered 2 Cocktails: Drink number one is the Bass'd which is essentially a Thai ice tea spiked with Hennessy which went very well together. Drink number two is the sugar mule which is basically a Moscow mule with lemon grass and kaffir lime leaves which was very refreshing. Both drinks were great and I would recommend. Then we had the Moo Manao (grilled pork jowl) and I must say this was the highlight of the show. It was one of thier specials and I'm a fan if pork jowl. The porkjowl was so tender, nice and fatty. It is seasoned very well and has a grilled smoky taste. It was on a bed of shredded cabbage and drizzled with some sort of sour dressing that paired with the fat very well. This dish I highly recommend! Then we had the Khao Mun Gai Tod (fried chicken with fragrant rice). It was good and very similar to most Thai resturants fried chicken over rice dish with a sweet and sour dip sauce. Round 2 Since the first round of food was so good we decided to try a couple more appetizers and drink. We got the Nham Si-Khrong Moo Tod (deep fried pork ribs) which came with a lot of ribs. They were cut into small pieces and deep fried and came with a wedge of cabbage. I think this dish was a bit dry but will probably pair well with beer. We also got the Kang Kiew + Roti (green curry with thai pancake). The roti was very flaky and may have been deep dried. The curry sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, kind of like a dessert. For Drink number three we ordered Jam On It (gin, lemon, elderflower, rasbery Jam, and rosemary. This one was very fragrant. The server was very attentive and service was fast. I've ordered from Door Dash several times and ate in for the first time last night. Wasn't what I was expecting when we first walked in, but it was an interesting vibe. They were playing some great music. Now the food, wow! I knew their Pad Thai was good. Tried it with duck this time and it was even better!! Also got the duck curry which was delicious, pineapple fried rice (served in a pineapple!), and Kao Soi. I wouldn't order the Kao Soi again. It had too much spice for me, even asking for it with least amount possible. It also had a strong lemongrass flavor, which I didn't care for. Hubby loved the crab rangoons ( real crab) and the fried chicken skins. Cocktails were really good. Service was good. They do add 20% auto gratuity though. The waitress was unprofessional, and her attitude gave the impression of intentionally neglectful service, influenced by her own biases, with the complicity of another server and the security staff. Walked into Sugar Bakery yesterday to grab an Americano! Coffee was great! The selection of pastries is large, and they all Look amazing! I grabbed a pecan pie cookie and a snickerdoodle... both two of the best cookies I've ever had! The textures were spot on, chewy on the inside with a slight crunch on the outside. This place is a really cool hybrid Thai restaurant and hip hop bar, which is honestly a pretty weird combination, but I can only speak for the bar portion since I didn't get any food. I really enjoyed my experience here, even though I didn't stay for long since I was bar hopping with a friend. The upstairs bar area had really cool decor and lighting that was very vaporwave-esque, and definitely complimented the aesthetic of the place. There are also records lined on the shelves downstairs, and they play some old school rnb and hip hop, which I also really liked. I only got one drink, Bass'd, which was a Thai tea cocktail with Hennessy. The drink itself was pretty strong but tasted really good, as I'm especially a sucker for tea or Asian inspired drinks. The rest of their drinks are also inspired by Thai flavors. Do not dine here. This business has hid my Google review. I will attach screenshots of my initial review and the unprofessional response from this business. I tried to make the screenshots in order the best I could for you all but I don't think Yelp prioritizes photo placement. Imagine giving a restaurant a chance even despite the fact that they were having a bad night and they make no effort to show basic customer service. And when you voice these complaints they try to hide your review to keep others from seeing what could potentially happen to them. In addition to potentially hiding your review, they respond to it in the most snarky manner possible. How are you going to get sassy with me like I was the one who wronged you? A reserved birthday dinner and when we arrive there is no main course and the menu has a limited selection of appetizers. The appetizers themselves are taking a very long time to get to us and then there are incorrect orders of the appetizers that you all made us pay for and I'm being responded to as if my table was the issue. The least they could do for us in this situation was order a free round of water for the inconvenience (and I mean this sarcastically because they absolutely did not do anything for us to alleviate this horrible experience) but nope, instead they decided to still charge you a cake fee for all THEIR troubles. Way to wish the celebrant a happy birthday even when she tried to give you all a chance. Not one time during the night did the owner/restaurant even cared to think to themselves "hmm, our patron reserved a table well in advance, it's a birthday dinner and we are unable to provide her with hospitality that we normally provide, let's do something to make this terrible night a little better for her" It's not about the fee, it's about the principles. It's about the customer service. A few friends and I came here on a Friday night to meet some other friends and as you would expect, it was pretty busy, but they ended up making room for us at our friend's table. Walking in, they are pretty strict on getting a temperature check masks are required while moving around the restaurant. I definitely don't have an issue with this. It think it's good they are looking out for other patrons and also the staff's health. There's hand sanitizer pretty much everywhere - from the entrance to every single table. They even have a sign at the table with restaurant guidelines that all patrons are to abide by. Now on to the food. I got the Moo Ping, while my friends got the Khao Mun Gai and Kang Giew Roti. Although the moo ping skewers had a lot of flavor, it was a tad salty and hard to eat since it was difficult to get the meat off the skewer. While my friend who got the curry also said his curry was salty. I think the roiti kind of tried to balance it, but the saltiness was a tad overpowering. My friend who got that Khao Mun Gai loved her dish all around. The atmosphere of Sugar Hill was great! They had a live dj playing 90s throwback, which livened up the atmosphere. People would be singing and dancing (dancing in their seats because dancing out of the seat is forbidden) and it was just a great environment. There's great decor if you like art and shoes. Most of the staff were pretty friendly and helpful, although we did encounter a bit of hostility early on. Overall, I have to say the food was a bit overpriced for what was given. But I'm not surprised with the cost since it is Capital Hill. I'm hoping that the food isn't always salty. But if it is and you like salty food and don't mind the cost, this place is a good place to dine with friends at. I'd like to give Sugar Hill another try someday. read more

I frequented Sugar Hill on the weekends to dance in my younger years. I didn't know they also serve food. I enjoyed the food here. I ordered moo ping one of my fav Thai dishes. Although the skewers were small, they were grilled perfectly and the tamarind based sauce complimented it very well. I also ordered thum tang, cucumber salad to pair with the meat. I made the mistake of ordering 5 stars, it was definitely Thai spicy not American spicy. My mouth was on fire. Drinks were strong. Got the Banana clip and Bass'd. This unique flavors of Hennessy and Thai tea sparked my interest and I was glad I tried it. Lights are dim with hip hop music in the background. I had the Pad Krapoa Kai Dow. If I was giving this place a rating just on the food, I would have to give it 3 stars. My dinner was not as flavorful as I expect when eating this dish. I was also told that there are 5 spice levels...I asked for a 4/5 and it felt more like a 2 to me. With that being said, I can never really dislike Thai food as long as it still tastes like Thai food haha. In terms of the overall place and personality of the restaurant I would definitely be curious enough to come back for drinks. So at first, this seems like a great fun place to be at. Don't ever plan on going to the bathroom, it tends to be a waiting period of 15 minutes or more. And the later you arrive, it gets harder to find a stall as libations begin to take over. The food however I experienced today was great. Lots of flavors from all over. Especially loved the crisply fried chicken skin. I believe they are he only ones to do this. The place gets packed so get here earlier to avoid the long lines!
