I'm a bit surprised to see so many mixed reviews for this location. Perhaps it has to do with if you don't order just dessert from here, as when I came here, all I had was just a shaved ice dessert. The service was friendly but I will say it was pretty slow. Normally, this isn't a problem, but when you're trying to have a cool treat, this is problemsome due to the fact that these cool treats can melt quick. That is the main reason for deducting one star. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is honestly nothing special, it gets the job done and that's pretty much it. Good place to go for sure if you want shaved ice or the equivalent dessert, but definitely not the best I've ever had either. read more

The dessert itself was well made, although the service was really unpleasant before leaving. They asked if we still needed the plastic bag since we didn't end up using it for the takeout container. When I told them no, but we were going to use it for something else they mentioned how they need to charge 25 cents otherwise. Which is fine by me, I said go ahead and add it in. It didn't bother me to pay for the bag, but they immediately back tracked and said no, no, no but for next time. The server asking if i'm okay because I just wanted to follow their policies. Why bother bring it up with zero intention of enforcing your own policy. It just left a sour taste. read more

Came here for dessert after eating at Ozen Korea. It is in a very convenient location, close to other good food places. I ordered the taro sago mixed dessert, which I've had before at other Sugar Marmalade locations. It was a great dessert, no difference in taste compared to the other ones I've had. My friends ordered the kimchi fries and the original bubble waffle, and both of these dishes were very small in portion compared to the Sugar Marmalade location in Mississauga. The kimchi fries were almost half the size, and the bubble waffle was very skimpy on the toppings. They tasted delicious, but you would be paying for half of what you can normally get compared to other locations. Service was good, but there wasn't much interaction with the wait staff, as you press a button at your table to order. This is typical of Asian restaurants, though, so don't be surprised by the minimal face-to-face interaction! Verdict: Would come again if in a group setting, it's an overall good place to get together with your friends. However, you get more bang for your buck at other Sugar Marmalade locations! read more

Having heard so many wonderful comments about Sugar Marmalade's locations in the GTA, I was thrilled to try it out in London. We came here around 9:15pm for late-night bite on a Monday, and it was still quite full when we arrived. We ordered taiwanese-style popcorn chicken on rice (Z29), japanese teriyaki french fries (Z16), and a mango sago mixed dessert (E2). I loved that the entree came with a tea egg - one of my favourites from back home. The french fries would've been better crispy, but the combination of toppings and sauces was delicious. The mango sago was also great, with ice cream on top. The employees don't speak very much English, so that's something that might turn away some customers. They also currently accept cash only. However, I love how diverse their menu is, and would return to try more of their items. read more

As a durian lover with limited options in london, I came here specifically for the durian pancake sundae and it was unfortunately disappointing. The pancake was thicker than I would've liked and don't be fooled by the size because it was mostly whip cream. For non durian lovers, it does smell in here. Laid back, push button service so that you can hang out as long as you like.  Our waitress was really nice, cleaning a table off for us because the table we originally sat at was in a dimmer area of the restaurant. May have been because it was an Uber order (although you still pay the same if not more for that convenience), but the dessert I ordered was sub par. I got the chocolate egg waffle with Matcha ice cream and marshmallows. The waffle was cold and soggy and the ice cream was melted. And the marshmallows weren't even toasted like they looked like in the provided picture. It was like they just packaged up some stay puft marshmallows and sent them on their way. The only saving grace of the meal was the brown sugar bubble tea, but overall, a big waste of money. And I can say I have ordered other ice cream and hot desserts from other establishments and they did not seem to have the same problems. read more

I believe the Chinese name for Sugar Marmalade translates to "sweet memories" and it is truly the perfect name for a cute little dessert place like this! I've been here twice now, and I can officially confirm that I'm a big fan. The menu is quite large and diverse (and designed beautifully!) so there's something for everyone. Desserts are their speciality but hot entrees and appetizers are also offered, and they're tasty too. The desserts though, are very cool and different, so be prepared for something new! Prices are fair. Staff are decent, there's a set of buttons on the table to press and call your server when you need the bill or other services. This place is cash only though. Food comes out pretty quickly, so it's good for in-and-out. Service was a little slower the last time I went but the place was busy. Parking is free in the plaza, washrooms are decent, and the interior is pretty cute. I will definitely be coming back soon! And I would recommend Sugar Marmalade to any adventurous dessert eaters out there who are craving something unique! read more

This is an interesting beautiful strip plaza restaurant at Wonderland and Beaverbrook , there is s multitude of hanging copper multi size pendants and Rustic looking tables The food selection is Enormous. Pages of bubble tea , a major selection of wings and meatballs such as pork , crab, lobster, beer and chicken , sticky rice and curries , Desserts galore including waffles and even many interesting some may say off the wall toast like marshmallow toasted toast Service was kind and efficient I'm giving just 2 stars today as this shoppe is Cash Only , and there is a ATMin the corner But it's noticed with Out of Order sign , but there is an ATM at the Macs milk store in same plaza. Came here on a Friday night and they were able to seat 10 people with a very short wait and no reservation. The staff did ask a group of four to move to another table--I thought that was pretty accommodating of them. We didn't try any of their food options, and got only desserts and drinks instead. I loved the desserts! There was so much variety, the desserts were well presented--coming in differently shaped bowls, with decorative toppings-- and reasonably priced, with most options priced under $8, and drinks at $5. This place only accepts cash, so be aware of that. They have an ATM machine on site. Service wasn't particularly attentive but I wouldn't expect that from a place like this. I waited for my egg waffle and Italian Soda for a good 5 minutes as it sat on the bar ready for me. They do warn you that the waffles take a little longer. Sugar Marmalade is a chain that is fairly ubiquitous (Toronto, Hamilton, Waterloo, etc), that has now come to London. Sugar Marmalade has good standardization - this location has similar menu, quality and taste as other Sugar Marmalades I have been to. As such, it is top-dog here in London where there is not a significant market for Asian desserts. However, there is not much difference between this location and other locations. I have ordered both the food and the desserts. Their bubble waffles are quite good, especially with the black sesame ice cream. In terms of food, I have ordered a variety of their rice plates (curry chicken cutlet, preserved veggie and pork, popcorn chicken, etc). They are a bit overpriced for what you get, but it is to be expected when you are getting a meal at a dessert place. Overall, I would recommend getting their desserts, and not their drinks or meals. However, you can't go wrong either way. read more

Usually at other chains of sugar marmalade I've had a great experience. This time around although the food was great the service was lacking a bit. They did seem pretty busy so it took them awhile to come over to take our order and after that it took about 20 mins for the food to come out. (I saw the table beside us come after but got their food first, extreeeemely unhappy about that ) But besides the service I have to say good is definitely a 7/10. I got a small sack of durian when the picture looked like I would get heaping loads of it. I was quite disappointed nonetheless. All in all. Awesome dessert place. I went with my friends today after eating at Ozen (a less than 5 min walk away) because we were craving something sweet. They had a super long menu with all sorts of drinks, food, and treats. Check my photos to see some of what my friends and I ordered (I ordered the chocolate waffle). The place was preety packed and busy because it was right after dinner time. I would definetly be going back because it was resonably priced and the food was delicious. Service was slow today and it seemed understaffed as the server was running back and forth. I would recommend going before dinner time if you are looking to get fast service. HORRIBLE service. It takes forever for someone to come to your table, even after you ring the call bell multiple times and raise your hand. I had to go to the counter and pour water in the glass myself because no one is refilling your glasses for you. They also got our order wrong and did not apologize. The food was below average and not worth the price. The only thing on their menu that was good was their bite sized fried chicken. Way overpriced and very disappointing! We ordered the mango pancake w/sundae supreme ($7.49) which is basically the mango pancake supreme ($5.99) with a scoop of ice cream. The pancake was basically filled with whipped cream and there were maybe 10 tiny pieces of mango in the pancake. The ice cream that was an extra $1.50 was obviously cheap vanilla ice cream. The service was horrible, utterly horrible. The one star I gave is literally only because the food is good, but even that would not get them another star because the service gets them negatives stars. I work in customer service and have bussed at restaurants before so I am not speaking with ignorance. First of all, there was no instruction given as to how to order in this restaurant. Simply given a paper and handed a menu. We were given water after 30 minutes, and the cup was literally 1/4 filled - and the water tasted like soap. After seeing tables around us get their little slips of paper picked up we filled ours out (similar to pho places) and waited for the paper to be taken. This took at least another 30 minutes along with very evident stares and closed menus from me and my friend to the servers. The food did not look like the menu (ie menu had bok choy which I was excited for and I got shredded, wet lettuce) We also asked for a separate spoon, that never came. When we finally decided to order dessert took another 15 minutes to retrieve the paper just for us to write down the order and another 25 or so for the actual dessert to come out. At this time the establishment was not even busy - empty tables everywhere. In fact, they crammed everyone into one side of the restaurant and there were people's chairs blockading our table so the server legitimately passed food over and yelled over people when coming to us. Then when we finally decided to pay the bill (which we requested) we lay our cash on the EDGE of the table, very clear. It does not make sense to me for servers to give out the bill and not anticipate that the customer is going to pay soon- because this is exactly what happened. We waited and waited and they casually passed by us and served other people not noticing the bright green cash laying there. One server who kept walking by us even got a dessert for herself and would eat and then bus plates, I didn't know if she was on break or just being totally unprofessional or both. My friend and I ended up standing up and going to the back near the kitchen where it took another 15 to pay which made no sense to me. Also they never asked if the bill was separate or together, just assumed and put everything together. Overall, this visit took over 2.5 hours not because we enjoyed being there but because the service kept us there for that long. (Also the server didn't count the change right when she gave it back to me) read more

The first time visiting Sugar Marmalade was really good experience because it wasn't busy. The second time my friend and I, we waited at least 10-15 minutes for a hostess to greet us and sat us down. A table of 4 customers came in after us was sat right away, they got their menu's and waters before we did. It was a little strange but we didn't care at that moment because we were excited for our appetizers and desserts. While we finished ordering on the sheet, we waited for a server to come by and grab the sheet from us. But all the servers were walking pass by us when we had the menu's and the order sheet at the end of the table all set and ready for them. we had to flag down a server twice because it was unbelievable how many times a server passed by us even when we're staring around. After they took our ordering sheet and the menu's, we had to wait almost an hour for one of our dishes to come out and then wait another 15 minutes or so for the others to come out. the worst part about this experience was they never told us that they only accept cash. if it wasn't for our first experience, we wouldn't have known until after finishing our food. For a reminder to the new customers! They only accept cash. I would rate this as a one star because of the lack of customer service they had but the food is really good so I would have to go with a 2 star. Maybe one day I'll give it another try but for now, I am staying away from it for a while. read more
