In all fairness, I'd have to lower my previous score. Giving it three stars is generous considering how the whole situation ended. The last time I went here, the sugarista just ripped the pieces off of my bikini area and didn't flinch or say a word when I screamed in pain repeatedly. It had to be one of the most painful experiences of my life and I've sprained my ankle so I know what pain is. The worst thing of all was that I left a voicemail for the owner with my complaint and no one ever returned my call. I realize that customer service in Portland is across the board, hit or miss, but the owner is a grown woman - and should have called me back to simply say, 'I'm sorry.' As well, the sugarista should have taken responsibility and said, 'I'm sorry.' This is a sad reminder of a trend I have seen here in this city from various practitioners - they have a problem being held accountable and cleaning up their side of the street. They have a problem, in other words, behaving like grown up professionals. When you're dealing with human beings, it is not a game. Be kind, be delicate. And say you're sorry when you hurt someone, even if you didn't mean to. Go elsewhere - there are plenty of sugaring places here - one I now love is called Sugar Sugar. Sugar Me is a place to go for hair removal. Sugaring hair removal, an ancient middle-eastern practice uses an all natural paste or gel made from food-derived ingredients like sugar, water, and lemon juice to remove the hair follicle from the root. The results can last up to six weeks. Sugar Me recently opened its new Division Street venue within a block of where I live. I found myself walking by there frequently, so finally stopped in to check it out. I was immediately taken by the pristine, beautifully-decorated, welcoming interior. Products were neatly and tastefully displayed in and around antique furniture against a modern backdrop of bold colors and good lighting. The whole vibe was sort of industrial chic-meets-great grandma-cozy. Products were of highest quality and priced reasonably. There was a beautiful decanter for water and clean glasses there so customers could help themselves, and all of the services offered and pricing written out clearly on a chalkboard. Fresh flowers added a nice touch as well. One is supposed to make an appointment for services there. I did not have an appointment the day I dropped in, but the person in charge was friendly and happy to accommodate me. I wish I could remember her name...I want to say "Celeste"...but I might be wrong, so I won't. I ordered a brow design and was quite pleased with the results. Her services were fast, professional, painless and executed with expertise. She suggested a product for me to help maintain the look, and I purchased it and have been very pleased with the results. I recommend Sugar Me highly. I enjoyed my experience there tremendously, and will most certainly return. It's great to have this business in the hood! read more

I've been going to Sugar Me for almost four years now and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. Kate is a darling and, while I haven't had any other of her staff, they all seem just as lovely! As for the waxes, once you sugar wax, you'll never go back to your razor. Ever. I've even started having Kate do my brows so I guess I don't need that tweezer anymore either. Waxes are long-lasting too. Your average shave lasts, oh, 2 hours (I jest but seriously!). Waxes from Sugar Me last 4 solid weeks and I stretch it to 6 because the hair really does grow back in lighter and thinner. ALSO: if you use the Supportland app, Sugar Me has "buy five, get one free" virtual punch cards! This review should basically have convinced you so just scroll up, tap that "call" button and make your appointment now! I went in 5 days ago, the area where she bikini waxed was sore for 3 days and my brows still have major bumps from where the hair was ripped out. Not too pleased with my experience. My friend and I had our eyebrows waxed, she asked for a touch up and there were many stray hairs left and her eyebrows looked exactly the same. I asked for some shape to mine after I had been growing them out and I left with them hardly shaped at all looking worse than when I came in, I'll have to grow them out again. I had never been here and when she was using the wax I said it looked like it would be hard to get precision with it and her response was "no". I do not recommend this place if you're looking to get your eyebrows shaped. The wax was fine, a little less painful than regular wax, but not worth the wasted money on badly shaped eyebrows that looked as if they needed waxed right after I had gotten them waxed. read more

I'll never wax again! Sugar me has changed my entire perspective on the monthly "clean up" in the down south area. I use to dread my wax appointments and literally have sweaty palms waiting for them to call my name into the back room. After moving across the country from Miami, I was lost on where to go for hair removal services. I got on Yelp and was Immediately interested when I read a review from a client saying how she suffered with serious ingrown hairs and that sugaring instead of waxing was more gentle on her skin. I immediately got online and booked an appointment for the following week. (I knew once I saw there was a wait, that the reviews had to be true) After meeting Tayla yesterday I feel like I've been torturing myself by waxing all these passed years. There was so much less pain and oh my god how I loved walking to my car without my pants sticking to the remaining wax left over in-between my butt lol! Holy cow! Was sugared from the rooter to the tooter last week with Kate at the Division location. What a place. What service. What a gal! Loved the whole experience. Kate is one of my most favorite people. And she is even more so now because she successfully gave me a Brazilian without me leaving the joint feeling like someone had scalded me like a cat, or so beat up & sore that I was in pain 4 days later (that actually happened to me at another popular hair removal biz). I met Kate when she was my instructor at the Euro Institute of Skincare, and was there the day she discovered sugaring as a more natural option to waxing. I never had an opportunity to try it until now. And I am in love, love, love! It makes dry skin incredibly smooth & soft. A week later I am still surprised how great my skin feels & looks. It glows! And it absolutely helped with my airbrush tan's application & longevity that I had done the next day. Still looks incredible & I know it was the sugaring that has accomplished that. I can't speak highly enough of Kate's ninja like sugaring & soothing skills. When she has to get after some tender spots she has superhero-like comforting skills. Petting your arm, pausing and taking a deep breath to clue you in to do the same. She is fast, calm, and very precise. If you haven't tried sugaring yet you really should. Friday will be my 3rd trip into Sugar Me. The place is adorable, affordable, conveniently located, and and they are very friendly, all pros so far. The con is that in my first two trips I don't feel like it's actually been as thorough as waxing was for me. I have a hormonal condition that causes me to grow hair in places (as a woman) I'd prefer not to have it. I switched to sugaring because it is touted as being able to get rid of shorter hairs, and since they are on my face and not somewhere that can be hidden, catching them when they are shorter is preferable. I feel like maybe my last esthetician when I was waxing was more diligent in tweezing to get the hairs that were missed? I am using a different Sugarer? Sugarist? Sugarista? each trip hoping that maybe that makes a difference. The reviews for both locations seem to say Kate and or Tray are the best of the best? Ladies, this place is the bomb. I don't eve know where to start. When you walk in it's very warm and inviting and decorated perfectly. It makes you feel happy just by walking in the door. Their prices are fair and I have to say it's a lot better than waxing. I've been waxing for about 10 years now and sugaring is a lot less painful and takes less time. The sugarists are really nice and accommodating. They even have a punch card where you buy 5 and get one session free. That's actually attainable! What's really annoying is that I booked with a sugarista recommended to me by a friend, but they switched me to a provider I really did not want to see again when I showed up to my appointment. Very awkward situation and fairly unprofessional to switch providers last minute. I love booking with Heather!!! I've always waxed everything, so this 'sugaring' thing seemed very appealing to me since I have very sensitive skin, let me tell you...its the BEST! It didn't hurt one bit (Im a tough girl but still, wax hurts more imo). I had never done a brazilian (being honest) but had always wanted, but since it's super intimate I was like eh- I'll just test it out and if I feel comfortable then we can see. Dude!! I debated sharing my opinion for a couple of weeks. This was my first experience sugaring and I've never waxed in the past. Just super tired of shaving and wanting to try out alternatives. I was booked with Lydia, though the esthetician I saw never introduced herself, so I can only assume it was Lydia. I had my legs and a Brazilian done. I hadn't shaved for 18 days (the website recommended at least 10 days) and she told me my leg hair was pretty short and likely couldn't get it all. My hair was all over the 1/4 inch recommended length, so I don't see how it was "too short." The room was cold, I was uncovered nearly the whole time, and there was very little instruction/warnings. Her application was also quite rough and pulled on my hair a lot. My appt was scheduled for 2 hours and I was done in 80 mins. I now feel this was due to the lack of thoroughness. I have patches of long hair in places that should have been removed. I could understand if a few spots or straggler hairs had been missed, but we're talking a lot more than that! I paid nearly $200 for this service and feel like I was cheated. However, I strongly feel my experience is related to the esthetician rather than the salon as a whole. The place was clean, other estheticians were friendly and kind, and the salon was very Covid safe. I do plan on sugaring again in the near future, and I may even return to sugar me, I will just see a different esthetician. read more
