She's willing to allow an animal to suffer with an ear infection rather than call in a prescription at Chewy so my cat isn't miserable! They're the ones who diagnosed her with chronic ear infections. They demanded I had to bring her in to see them in order for them to send the prescription! That is absurd she going to have them the rest of her apparently. Isn't that the name chronic? I'm on unemployment struggling to get by, but they want money anyway before the animal getting relief!! They call themselves vets! Paisley did not have to be abused while receiving her veterinary care. Romeo was not treated the same way. Though, I guess he paid his price for that. Dr. Catherine cleaned only one side of his teeth. What about cleaning all of his teeth? I paid the full price for Romeo teeth cleaning. Why did Romeo receive half of the services ? Sugar River Animal Hospital abused Paisley under doctor Catherine McLean. Hailey is presumably the person who carried out the abuse. AAHA accreditation implies veterinary care that is not abusive or negligent, but the opposite that is modernized and focused on less suffering of a pet. read more

Highly recommend from family and friend. I want a good vet. The price was very different when I call to schedule and after the visit. Almost 200 more. When someone call to schedule an appointment you should tell them all the cost. Not give them a price and tell them to bring in a stool sample. You would think it would be in that quote. Wrong it's an extra 50 buck. Was that explained nope just added. The reply comments is not accurate. When I schedule it was for 3 vaccines not one. I also stated that time of calling that I did not have medical records. Was told not a problem but was not told that a test would have to be added 67 dollars to the bill. read more

They were so good with communication and answered all of my questions. They treated my cat for an upper respiratory infection and an eye infection when I first got her and they were very gentle and kept her calm throughout everything including getting her temperature taken. Very happy! read more

1 star for Paula being the rudest person I ever spoken to in my life. Aside from the poor communication and dishonest pricing of my dogs exam, the way Paula handled the situation when I wanted to chat calmly about the charges on the phone was appalling and ultimately why I will be telling everyone I know not to go here. Condescending , rude and even laughed at me a few times. Also, shaming clients and making them feel they haven't done enough to help their pet isn't usually the best way to do business. (Apparently Catherine does this as well when shes triggered by a review.) I could've looked past the entire weird extra charge issue if they were honest and just simply kind about it, but Paula wanted to be mean instead I guess. Dog care was fine. I have been coming here for over 3 years now and would never consider going anywhere else!!! The practice is efficient. The staff is friendly and my vet, Dr Catherine Maclean, is absolutely amazing and a well educated provider. Both my dogs come here and receive stellar treatment. Prices are very reasonable and lower than the competition. They have a lovely website which provides education and you can send in your concerns to make an appointment. They send text reminders for appointments. They even call the next day after an appointment to see how their patients are doing after vaccines. That is a huge personal touch! I feel the negative reviews posted here are unreasonable. Never once did I ever get the impression the practice is out for money. Perhaps, others have less experience over the years with vet practices as I have lived in different parts of the country. I cannot thank Dr. Gillian enough. We have a 4 year old rescue Great Dane who is extremely leery of new people and new situations. She is very "people selective" and has never once been uncomfortable at this office. The staff are amazing and have never been intimidated of her, regardless of her size and demeanor. She needed to be spayed and have her tail amputated due to "happy tail". Dr. Gillian did everything she could to heal it before amputation, but it just didn't work. Even after the amputation, she sustained a small infection and kept flinging the bandages off. Dr. Gillian and everyone else was so amazing. Her tail has healed phenomenally and I will never stop going to this vet. I have recommended everyone I know with pets to go here. Thank you guys for making my experience so good. It was a rough thing to go through, with weekly (sometimes multiple times a week) visits and the staff quickly recognized us and welcomed us with smiles. read more

I had heard this business was difficult to work with. However, I am originally from the area and was visiting for an extended period near-by. My dog came down with a bad UTI and was in need of an Rx for amoxicillin. As my dog frequently gets UTI's, my vet (out of state) offered to fax the Rx to a local vet. I called this business and was told they will only fill for clients. Really?! When I made the request I explained that my dog had blood in urine, and I was from out of town. ZERO compassion. None. So if I brought the dog in for an unnecessary appointment, but it would result in dollars for them, then they would fill?! I'd avoid this place at all costs and agree with one of the other reviewers, based on my experience they appear to be in it only for the money. read more

My family and I love Sugar River Animal Hospital. Dr. MacLean and her entire staff are extremely caring and compassionate. About 8 months ago, we had to have our 16 year old dog put down. I called Sugar River and they took me that day and gave my dog, Riley the attention and care he needed. The staff was excellent and provided IV hydration and antibiotics in the office. I cannot say enough good things about this animal hospital. Dr. Catherine and staff have been treating my high maintenance dog for 4 years. Dr. Catherine and all of the techs and staff are so kind and patient with my anxious guy who suffered from frequent infections (I'll spare the details). Instead of just medicating, they got to the root of the cause and stopped the infections from happening in the first place. They have also been so accommodating to last minute appointment requests, picking up RXs after hours and being quick to respond to any inquiry. One week ago today I had my 13-year-old dog euthanized. The experience was the worst, most horrible, heartbreaking, gut wrenching euthanization of my life. I've had many animals in 64 years but this experience haunts me at night. An injection was given to my dog in the neck she cried so pitifully. I cried horribly. I never wanted her to hurt or Cry Anymore in her life. The vet said it would take 10 minutes for her to fall asleep and then the lethal injection would be given. For 10 minutes I cried and sobbed with my little dog in my lap, whining, moaning and groaning. Her tongue rolling out multiple times, twitching and fussing, the horror of it all. I am truly traumatized by the experience. I'll never get another dog. If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time I would have used another Veterinary Clinic, on another day. I would have prolonged my little dogs painful life another day to avoid the experience we had together at the Sugar River Animal Hospital. read more

She has a wonderful rapport with "Nick" (our cat), provides excellent advice as to how to keep Nick healthy, what to monitor, and is open at any time to advise us on aspects of Nick's health. Right after we moved into Grantham/Eastman this past November, we stopped by Sugar River to ask where we might find the special Science Diet food Nick needs, they gave us some (i.e. no charge). We have been to vets in 7 countries with Nick, and we are very pleased to find he can now get excellent treatment at his new home. read more

I have been bringing my black lab, Molly, to Dr. Katherine, SRAH since she was a puppy. I wouldn't dream of bringing her anywhere else. From day one Dr. Katherine made me comfortable, but more so Molly. Molly has many allergies and so we made frequent visits to SRAH and every time Dr. Katherine and her staff were super nice and very welcoming. Now Molly's allergies are under control, with help from Dr. Katherine so our visits are less frequent. Every time we walk into SRAH, Molly gets so excited as she knows no matter what she is having done it will be done with care from her second family. One last note, as I could go on and on about how wonderful SRAH is. When we were out of the country, Molly had an accident while at the place she was staying that required surgery, Dr. Katherine knew that she is like a child to us and took care of her in our absence, just like she was her own.
