River Road Veterinary Clinic are literally life savers. It was late on a Saturday afternoon/evening, my 5 month old pup Lucy hadn't drank water in 24 hours and was very lethargic. After Lucy threw up more liquid than I have ever seen, I call the switchboard. Dr. Pinello called in a technician, and they were waiting when Lucy and I arrived. An xray revealed that Lucy had swallowed the metal spring of a mouse trap, and it had traveled down into her intestines. The team called in a third set of hands to assist with the emergency surgery. Three and a half long hours later, I received a call that Lucy has made it through the surgery. Dr. Pinello noted that Lucy was not out of the woods, as the metal ends had punched holes in her system. It would be a long, sleepless night for all. The next morning, Dr. Pinello calls to say Lucy has made it through the night; I bawl. Dr. Pinello notes we still don't know if we will need to go back in again (due to the holes), we will have to monitor her infection. Late that morning, I receive a call that Lucy's infection rate was ever so slightly better, but it wasn't worse; so that is good. Monday morning I call to hear that Lucy is doing great! As long as she maintains no temperature, she could go home at the end of the day. After two weeks of healing and soft foods, Lucy is doing wonderful! She had her staples removed and is transitioning back to her normal food. All body systems are functioning normally and she is back to her happy, energetic, lively self. This was the worst "grooming" I have ever paid for. I recently moved to the area and called around for a local groomer for my terrier. The secretary at River Road assured me they had a professional groomer. I brought her in and told them I wanted her shaved. They asked if I needed her bathed too which I thought was strange - I'm my experience a grooming contains both a bath and cut. I told the groomer to shave her because of her matting. She asked if I wanted to keep her fluffy and I said if possible, sure but that I doubted she would be able to brush her out since she hates to be brushed. She said it would be about 1.5hrs. 3hrs later they said she was done. I picked her up in a rush because I had to get to a meeting. As I was paying I found out that the bath cost $50 and the cut was charged by the minute totaling $176. I hadn't thought to ask if they would charge by the minute because I have never once encountered that before. When I got home I looked at her closely and was horrified. Instead of shaving her like I asked, they attempted to brush her, cut her unevenly, and shaved her to the skin in random spots. She looks horrific and still has a lot of matting all over. We called back immediately asking for a refund and were told that the doctor who could handle that was out. This morning we called back and were met with rude, aggressive dismissal and 3 doctors who refused to listen to the problem or offer any solutions. They hung up mid conversation and won't pick up the phone. As someone new to the area this was a terrible welcome. I'm not sure what to do now. read more

River Road Veterinary Clinic is THE BEST animal care in the Upper Valley!! After an extremely difficult and challenging experience with Cardigan veterinary clinic, a co-worker recommended her vet clinic--River Road. Dr. Pinello, the other doctors, and the office staff were professional, courteous, compassionate, and helpful from the moment we entered the clinic. One of our dogs had heartworm! She is only 9 pounds. My concern was that in her fragile state, she may not do well with the treatments. I was terrified that I might lose her!! When I expressed my deepest concerns to Dr. Pinello, she assured me that, not only would I be allowed to hold her and be with her during the administration of the drugs (injections), but also I would be welcome to stay with her throughout the day after her treatment. That was not something that "the other place" would ever have allowed!! Throughout the duration of treatments, the office staff eagerly greeted my dog, made us feel welcome, and spoke kindly to us. I know that my dog received the best quality of care, and at the hand of the best team for her care! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND River Road Veterinary Clinic for ALL your animal care needs! Don't waste your time or money with any other clinic!! Start and end with THE BEST!! We brought our dog in for emergency care with a life-and-or-limb threatening systemic infection in her foreleg from a quill fragment missed by a different vet practice a few months ago after a porcupine encounter. She was immediately admitted by Dr. Pinello, and the River Road team showed the greatest care and attentiveness. She spent two nights hospitalized, during which Dr. Dutton was deeply engaged, communicated often and thoughtfully with us, and gave her the best possible care. He welcomed us as partners in her well-being, allowing us to visit (liberally!) while she was hospitalized. He provided helpful, detailed explanations of her medical status. He clearly understood our dog's particular temperament, incorporating it into a home treatment plan that would best lead to her healing. Follow up since bringing her home has been equally attentive and supportive. All the techs, too, were very friendly and caring. Good people all around. read more

Our family has been using the River Road Vet Clinic for over 20 years to care for our cats and dogs and never once have I been disappointed by their ability to engage with our pets and with us guardians as well. We have brought animals to be spayed and neutered and animals that have needed immediate medical attention. Recently our "difficult" young hound mix needed her vaccinations and the staff handled her so effectively she didn't bat an eyelash. We are decades long patrons of River Road Veterinary clinic. Out most recent emergency had us at the clinic on a Saturday at 8 pm with our cat who had a prolapsed rectum. He was immediately brought to surgery to make the repair and they were nice enough to clip his nails while he was under. After a couple of days in their care for fluids and after care he is back home with us and we are forever thankful. Given the circumstances the bill was very reasonable. This vet clinic is fantastic. They are very thoughtful and very knowledgeable, and work very well with all types of animals. Dr Jason does extremely well with our large dogs and is by far the best vet I've had. They have an emergency doctor on call 24 hours, so you can use them for emergencies if the case arises. These vets are top shelf. Dr. Pinello and Laura Egan both worked on my Shih Tzu by extracting and cleaning his teeth. They provided great care and he had a fast recovery. Dr. Dutton comes to my farm and takes care of my horses with shots and floating teeth. All around great care and I would definitely recommend them. read more
