There are many candies for sale from fun-sized to king sized and everything in between. They wont have everything you are looking for, but they have some options you haven't seen in ages. They also sell buckets based on decades: candies that were popular in the 50s or 60s, and so on. You can also get a phosphate, ice cream cone, ice cream soda. Very friendly staff each time I come in. Bottom line: If you need nostalgic candy, give this place a call. Aside from the friendly service and selection, I was most appreciative that the folks took the time to call me when specific candies came in. I had relatives that were looking for old candies that they remembered growing up, and I must say that Sugar Shack came through. It would be great if they stocked old-time sodas. They do have some Coke products (Coke, Diet Coke(?), Sprite) in glass bottles, but they have the US version that has high-fructose corn syrup. Cool little candy shop in Kirkwood. I love the $1 mini gelato cones, especially the salted caramel and soo does my golden retriever. They're the perfect size treat for her and me. They have jars filled with various candy and each counter has various amounts. I love it that you can get a hostess Twinkie for $.50 and it's fresh. The candy bars are $1 and they have a variety of candy for $.25 and $.50. The staff is friendly and the price is right!!!!! The kids will love it and especially the big kids. read more

This place is awesome. I had never had a phosphate before, but theirs is great. They also have a ton of candies in jars that range from 25 cents to 2 dollars. Then upfront they have a great selection of candies, taffys, gums, and mints that are very affordable and delicious as well. Barb, the store's owner, was working the counter when we came in and she was super helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this place, they even make their own cotton candy! What more can you want? I wish sites like Yelp didn't exist so people didn't have the power to hold small businesses captive to their desires, but as long as it does exist, I will always make sure to leave a positive review for a wonderful place like this. read more

How is there only one review on this place? It's awesome! They advertise themselves as a "nostalgia candy store" which means it's all of the old school candy you remember from your youth: rock candy, those weird button sheets and pretty much every other hard to find candy that I've only seen mentioned in the Vermont Country store. The place is set up to look like an old-fashioned candy store---think the Candy Man place from the old Charlie & the Chocolate Factory movie. They even have the tiny glass bottles of coke for sale. I think the owner was working when I was there and she was super friendly and helpful. Smiled the whole time she was helping the really confused woman in front of me in line. I could have spent a fortune but didn't and I already have a stomach ache from all of the sugar. But I still plan to return. read more

Attended a child's birthday party here a few days ago. The setup was tea party, so doesn't seem like the kind of place I would book my son's next birthday gathering. The kids were allowed to choose a hat to wear; you know, the over-the-top huge hats in crazy colors. The girls had feather boas, the boys had ties. The first cup of tea served was Lipton, which I knew immediately would be a huge flop. I have to wonder, why on earth would you serve caffeinated tea at a child's birthday party? The kids loaded it with sugar cubes and unanimously proclaimed they all preferred the pretend tea better (colored rock candy stirred into hot water...with more sugar added at their leisure). Games were cute, kept kids engaged. At the end, they took the colored coins they "won" during the games to purchase candy from different cases in the store. This was a HUGE hit, as you can imagine. Party was good, went by quickly, and staff was very friendly. I would definitely come back to try the fresh cotton candy or to buy my parents some of their favorite nostalgic candies. read more

This shop has the vibe of an old general store perfect! When you walk in everything feels old but in a good way. It is definitely a very nostalgic setup. The candy selection was really good, but the prices were a little too high. I understand because I can't imagine staying profitable as a nostalgic candy shop is easy to do. Its a great place to stop in if you are window shopping the old stores in Kirkwood but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to get to it. For me, the candy is just a little more than I would pay unless something really struck my fancy. read more

The Sugar Shack is a brand new candy shop in Kirkwood, and has only been open a couple of months. The cheery window display is what caught my eye, and we eagerly ran inside. There are a ton of apothecary jars full of gorgeous candies. They also have cases full of them, divided by price. The most expensive case was the old time candy case, and items in it were $1.50. Most of the old time candy has been featured on Food Network, and we were so excited to finally try it. The two ladies in here were so friendly that it really gave the place a magical feel. They even have a huge cooler full of Coke products in glass bottles. We got three, and they even popped the tops for us. I am completely impressed with everything about this place. They have candy store staples, items that you rarely see, plus items that you won't know exist. I truly encourage you all to run out and support them. read more

I love this place! It's usually not that easy to get me to buy my kids candy, but I was so excited to share my childhood favorites with them we walked away with plenty of candy and plenty of smiles. And my husband, a true candy lover, was thrilled with his Father's Day gift of a huge stash of all of his favorites from his childhood. He couldn't believe they had Aba Zabas! I also picked up some of their little cakes....I wish I could remember what they were called. When you visit, be sure to try one or five. They're only $1.50 and they're so tasty! Not to mention cute. The customer service was just what you would want in an old fashioned candy shop, the atmosphere is great, and the selection will put a smile on your face. We'll be regulars! read more

This is such a great little shop! I stop in sometimes to get a phosphate (it's pretty much like a soda made with any flavor you want) and to check out what desserts they have. There used to be cake pops, but I haven't seen them in awhile, so I tried the Pillow Pop. This was a giant marshmallow on a stick, and there are different coatings you can get (I had the Smores). SO GOOD. I also used Sugar Shack for the candy table we had at our wedding. It was really great - I basically talked to the owner and told her my color themes and favorite candies, and she went to work finding everything. I provided jars for the candy, but I think you can rent them, too. I love this place! read more

Cute local candy shop, retro, fun. I saw some candies that I liked as a child that are no longer main stream. Tart n tiniest and wacky wafers. Gourmet cotton candy( lots of flavors), looks like they make old fashion sodas too. Could be updated a bit, but overall nice local place. read more

The sugar shack was so cute. The person working was training someone, so they seemed a little occupied while waiting on us, but that's understandable. They had a ton of different flavors of cotton candy and phosphates. I had never had a phosphate before, but I tried the cherry root, and I really enjoyed it! Like I would come back for other phosphates. I also got the peach cotton candy, which was cool, they made it in front of us and we got a ton of cotton candy. I would love to come back and buy my grandparents some nostalgic candy from this place. They had buckets of century themed candy that would be perfect! read more

Several other would-be customers waiting with me, it's 12:46 no lights on, no staff, doors locked. Major bummer. Wowza! Try the cake balls...they look great and taste even better. Cake balls are the deliciously different way to serve cake at a gathering. The Sugar Shack has them in lots of different flavors, too, and each one tastes fabulous-no way to choose a favorite. Place them in cupcake papers appropriate to the celebration and arrange on a tiered cupcake stand for a really nice presentation. read more

I was in town for my girlfriend's nephew's First Communion. What better way to energize the evening than dropping by the Sugar Shack? This was my first time there, but they have been there plenty. It is an old-school style candy store with all of the candy types individually laid out in individual jars. The prices are quite reasonable and the environment cannot be beat. The people working in the store were so energetic and eager to make us happy. You can hang out in front of the store with the whole family and enjoy your treats on the benches. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. If you have not stopped by here, it is worth at least a gander. Heck, just bring a quarter and buy 3 large sour patch kids or 2 packs of now and laters!
