Yes, the prices will be higher than Amazon and other online retailers. If something is not in stock, you may have to wait for them to order it, but waiting and supporting a small local business feels worth it to me. Their employees have always been kind and helpful to me over the phone and in person. They have an excellent selection of books packed into their brick-and-mortar storefront, and on the rare occasion they don't have what I'm looking for, they're willing to order it. I've been particularly impressed with their graphic novel selection. I've had consistently good experiences here, at their Napa and Petaluma locations, too, so I've got to give them five out of five stars across the board.

I've been to other bookstores that benefit local libraries, and normally the collection is so sad. I'm an avid fiction reader, and pretty picky, and in their fiction section they had tons of great books published in the last couple years that I have loved (for around $5 for most books) In the travel section I found a fairly recent guidebook for Montreal which will be awesome for our upcoming trip. My husband couldn't stop raving about the 4D? John Wick DVDs he found for cheap that he said would easily go for 10x the price on Amazon. We also found lots of cute books for our toddlers that were 2-3 dollars each. Overall, very small shop but some great finds!!

Or an Egyptian sarcophagus from a set design for Indiana Jones next to a sizeable camel stuffie. Or an antique Underwood typewriter in its case or a set of illustrated journals of a bear who has traveled to Paris, to Egypt, to the Chelsea Flower Show in London, to Africa! However, you had best be prepared to be ignored. I went in with the idea that I might actually invest in a treasure, and I was prepared to pay for it. Sadly, yet understandably you can't look at anything, and you certainly can't touch anything. You must ask the clerk, which would be fine if she didn't totally ignore you! I asked specifically about a piece of illuminated text, she didn't even get up. I was told it was double sided, and a couple hundred bucks. I was really really interested in investing in it... but she couldn't be bothered to show it to me or tell me the accurate cost. I might go back, because as I said, these things are wonderful and special and worth the expense; but I would have to be prepared to be a more aggressive shopper, which doesn't sound like me.
