Coming from out of state, we easily purchased a $10 Discovery Pass day ticket and parked in the lot. Using our flashlight on our phone, we explored the actual fort, built during World War II as a coastal defense. The fort is preserved well and you can go inside all the rooms and tunnels. There are also trails along cliffs lined with meadows and forests, offering beautiful views of the water. There are public restrooms near the parking lot.

He died at the hand of Hatain native men. He was the first non native resident of the island. Deception Pass State Park is a top tier gem of a state park. There's so much to see! This park…read morespans multiple islands, and of course is connected by a bunch of bridges that traverse sheer ocean cliffs with rocky beaches at the base. More inland, there are quiet old growth forests, lakes, and bluffs. I visited the tide pools at Rosario Head during one of the lowest tides of the year. From the parking lot, it's about a 10 minute walk to the tide pools, crossing a conveniently located washroom as well. Since it's so heavily trafficked, there are ropes strung about to keep visitors from trampling on recovering habitats, and also ropes that guide the way to see some tide pool critters. Some staff members were also there to answer any questions and give more information. I did a hike around Rosario Head after my tidepool visit-you get to stand on top of the bluffs and admire the bluest water and the most fluffy clouds for miles. Of course, it's among one of the most trafficked state parks in Washington, so come early if you want to easily snag a parking spot.

Those waterways are what make this place so amazing though. Beautiful state park. Lots of scenic trails. Hike down to the water or stay high and explore the views. You can go in through the whidbey island side or the fidalgo island side. We came in through the whidbey island side and it was pretty easy. Recommend checking out the bays too. It's a nice relaxing beach day with actual sand! We camped at bowman bay. During low tide, explore the rocks and you'll find a ton of crabs. Kids loved it! Pet friendly as well. We brought our huge bernedoodle and she loved it too. Dogs must be on leash but the trails were doable with her. Mostly dirt trails without many rocks or obstacles. Weather is always hit or miss in the PNW. It did rain on us the first night but it was actually very relaxing. Remember, no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear. So gear up, come prepared, and get ready to enjoy some beautiful exploration.

It was perfect for viewing the tide pools. We saw lots of crabs, tadpoles, shrimp, fish and even a little sea urchin. I had forgotten how much fun it was to do things like this and it made me super nostalgic for my childhood. There were lots of people with dogs, walking along the beach and the pathways. I also really loved the Maiden of Deception Pass; both the statue and the story. On the walk from the parking area, we saw lots of birds and rabbits and it is just a really beautiful place to visit. If we lived in the area I would come here often and I recommend a stop to anyone who hasn't yet had the pleasure.

An unusual sculpture garden and trail combined into one…read more I enjoyed the walk and the artwork along the trail. The trees, ferns and green growing things along the path were all so beautiful. Seeing the artwork and easy link to via the QR codes to the biography of the artist made it all the more interesting. It is a 40 minute bicycle ride the Ferry land to/from Port Townsend. Easy trip by car.

I only took photos of half the sculptures I saw, because I wanted to enjoy the moment. But trust me it's really cool! Around each corner of the clean trail is a new eye catching sight. A national preserve well worth preserving…read more Stunning views of the Olympic Peninsula, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Cascade Mountains. Easily spend the day just marveling the views. This hike can be visited multiple times and never gets old. Time it right ~ when the tide is out the lower beach section is a beauty on its own. Careful to watch the tide coming back in otherwise a very difficult hike back for many. Pup friendly and please pick up after your pooch. *Parking is very limited so come early.

This is a generously spaced park where people are cordial for the most part. Go to the back of the…read morepark; the dogs at the entry gate seem stressed and possibly territorial because they're completely unsupervised. This would have been a 5 rating if not for a dog bite incident where the owner refused to be accountable for her dog biting my dog. We were there for 10 minutes when a large Rhodesian Ridgeback bit my girl as she returned a ball to me. No skin was broken on her back and my girl seemed OK so we moved far out into the park to get away from the biter. Twenty minutes later my dog was returning a ball and the biter appeared and bit again. Look out for this dog if you go there. The woman that owns the Rhodesian Ridgeback said we were not locals and that is why her dog bit my dog. Not a good excuse for bad behavior and no apology. If your dog attacks another dog, you're responsible and accountable period. My next message is going to Coupeville City Hall to ask if an occasional visit from an animal control officer might help remind owners that they're responsible and need to supervise their dogs. Otherwise, this is a fabulous dog park. Go here, your dogs will love it.

Throughout our trip we saw: egg yolk jellyfish, sea stars, crabs, harbor seals, blue heron, and a mussel farm. As an avid kayaker, it was nice to paddle unhurriedly and enjoy the scenery. Moreover, the tandem kayaks were easy to use. A big thanks to Sue and "the other guy" who took care of us from beginning to end.

The time availability, Golden Hour Tour discount, and Anacortes departure allowed us to narrow our decision. We were very pleased with our three our tour. However, it did not seem like it would work well for beginners as basic skills were needed to paddle and navigate. I never quite got comfortable with the peddles for turning and would have had them a little lower as my feet slipped off a couple times. I could not bend my knees enough to reconnect the peddles for turning on my own. Our guide assisted me which held up the tour though. We were in a tandem which worked well for us as my husband was recovering from surgery. We were covered with a skirt to keep us dry for the most part. Some water did leech in to wet our bathing suit bottoms so we were glad we brought a dry change of clothes at the end. We saw eagles, seals, jumping fish, and other birds. Whales do not come in this close to the main land so we had no expectation. The water was like glass in parts, slightly turbulent in others, and the island shores simply serene. If you stuck close to the guide, he was very knowledgeable.
