Beautiful beach side park in Whidbey Island- we visited right at sunset. Washington State Parks are $10 a day or $30 for an annual pass- we opted to buy the annual pass and leave it for our boys, who live on the island. I made my way out to the beach and went walking and collecting driftwood and various stones. Views are gorgeous, the bugs weren't too bad at sunset and I had a good time seeing the bunny's come out to nibble on grass and the birds flying around. read more

Joseph Whidbey State Park has become a regular for my Grandma and I when I come spend a few nights with her here and there. There is a small parking area by the beach where one does not need a Discovery Pass because it is not technically part of the park, but is close enough to access the park grounds via foot. We park there and then I can go exploring on foot on the beach or traverse some of the trails through the woods. I was walking along the main trail during the summer in 2021 and found some blackberry thickets. The berries were big and juicy. So upon returning to my grandmother's house we found a pail and I brought it with me upon returning to the park and picked a few handfuls of blackberries. After picking the berries we got some ice cream at the grocery store and had blackberry-topped ice cream for a snack/dessert. Fun place to explore and collect berries for a sweet treat with grandma. read more

Lovely spot to sit and relax to watch the sun set. There are plenty of picnic tables and great open spots for picnicking. Parking: small gravel lot. Dogs: must be leashed at all times. Beach Access: is less than a 5 minute downhill walk from the parking lot. there is a worn path that goes slightly downhill to access the beach. Pushing a stroller back up the hill is somewhat tiring but manageable. Speaking of the beach--this place is more of a rocky beach than a sandy one. That being said, there are some nicely polished-by-the-sea pebbles along the shoreline. While I was there, I witnessed the park being maintained by a state park ranger(?)---he wiped down the trash can lid, rinsed and refilled a container for dogs to drink out of, picked up trash, etc. Very nice to know that this place is being kept clean! No fireworks allowed in the park areas. Signs posted. Beach: I was there during high tide so there were no tide pools or shells--just a very rocky beach with smooth pebbles. Wildlife: while there in the late afternoon/evening. I saw a bald Eagle, and a few wild rabbits! read more

It is a great small park with a beautiful viewpoint as well as easy beach access. The upper picnic is often peppered with a delightful amount of local bush bunnies. It makes for a great picnic location! read more

Lots to do here. Brought the fam out to go looking for Whidbey Island Rocks. For those unfamiliar, they are painted rocks hidden along the path. A Discover Pass is required to park here but if you don't have one you can get a day pass in the parking area. This park features miles of easy walking and plenty of bushwhacking trails for those brave enough. There are several trails which lead down to the beach and a picnic area with grills. This is the perfect place to bring the kiddos to let off some steam or just go for an easy hike and enjoy nature. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. read more

There are many fancier parks around, and if you're looking for nice grass then forget about this one, but if you're looking for an un-crowded, relaxing escape without a lot of kids (I don't see many here) then this might be a park for you. The view is gorgeous. I don't think there's a more beautiful "ocean" view anywhere on Whidbey. It's wide open and sweeping with Admiralty Inlet to the south where the Olympic Peninsula and it's majestic mountains erupt out of the inlet. The Straight of Juan De Fuca is due west and is wide open to the Pacific 100 miles further west. Vancouver Island is way off in the distance and floats like a questionable specter, and the San Juan's dot the water to the north. What's that thing about a mile off shore? Is that a submarine? No, it's a submarine shaped island of course! The hatch is a little house, the periscopes are microwave towers. There's some type of bunker on it, and the entire island only has one, lonely, tree (that's dead) with what look like big, huge vultures perching on it. (I think they're bald eagles) But it sure looks like a submarine! Sunsets are gorgeous here. There are a few picnic tables on the upper slope and at the beach, which is about 50' lower in elevation than the parking lot. There's also a bench and a wide, easy trail to the beach. They all afford gorgeous views. The beach is long and narrow with a lot of driftwood and there's a cabana above the log jam with a desiccated patch of grass that might be good for beach volley ball - but wear shoes or get stickers in your feet. There are also some nice hiking trails through the trees. It's a good place to get away from everyone. I've never seen it crowded. It's also pretty cool, weather wise I mean. We went there a few days ago to escape the heat in Bothell. When we left Bothell it was 89, it was 72 at Joseph Whidbey, we arrived at about 2pm. So, as my granny used to say, "always bring a sweater!". read more

Saw this place was about five minutes from our hotel so headed over for the hour before sunset and wow, it's beautiful! It feels almost like a secret little neighborhood beach. There's a handful of parking spots, a picnic table a short walk down from there and then a short walk down to the beach that has a lot of lovely rocks, and a sandy beach. Within a few minutes we saw a river otter fishing near the shore! The view is beautiful. We headed back the next evening and the sunset was even more gorgeous. read more

Great place to enjoy a nice walk with the family. Trying to get our birth started so we've been walking at this beautiful park! Who knows- maybe you'll find some painted rocks from Whidbey Island Rocks here! Definitely worth checking out! read more
