Hidden craft beer gem right here. This place is under new ownership and is an improvement by leaps and bounds. I've lived in this area for about 3 years and visited this location previously and walked right out. Fast forward to this year....I came across this treasure trove of craft beers one day when looking for Sam Adams Fresh as Helles on Sam Adams beer finder. I came in and saw a whole section for craft brew that wasn't there before. Unfortunately the beer I came for wasn't available in Montgomery county at the time thru no fault of the store. But I did leave with another brew I was looking for and couldn't find which was UFO Twist. I got to talking with one of the owners and the exchange turned into a lengthy conversation. These guys know their stuff and love beer. I've gone back several times and always feel welcomed and have long beer conversations. Also the tasting are a added touch that puts them over the top. This place is a short ride around the way from me so they have a loyal customer for as long as I live here. read more

I went in for Dry Vermouth and came out with that and four bottles of wine and one Belgium beer. Had the manager on duty not been so helpful and friendly, I probably would have left with my lone item. Their prices were reasonable, their sales were excellent, and they were so very friendly. I couldn't find the vermouth and had to wait a short bit for a clerk to finish with another woman before helping me. I watched him educate this woman on all types of wine, listen to her requests, and never got annoyed with her when she didn't know the difference between the types. After helping her, he showed me where the vermouth was just as friendly especially since I was waiting within 5 feet of it. The weather was beyond miserable (it was Christmas Eve and snowing heavily), to be honest I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't really want to wait, but the staff was so wonderful. During check-out the manager roped me into conversation about which part of Germantown I was coming from in such poor weather and when I told him he asked me why I came so far instead of hitting the other liquor store. I explained that I had problems with staff at the closest one to me, flirting with me and always asking me out so he gave me information on where another one was so I wouldn't have to put up with that in order to grab a bottle of alcohol. Because let's be honest, nobody wants to go to a store where they're constantly made to feel like a piece of meat. I'm not a fan of the Sugarloaf Shopping Centre by any means and avoid it at all costs, besides the horrible parking lot situation, it's kind of sketchy, but I'd be more than happy to deal with all of that to give this Wine Cellar my returned business. In addition to friendly, they have a HUGE variety of wine and some great unknown and often hard to get beers. read more

The best-kept secret in Germantown. Friendly family-owned business with an outstanding selection of beer, wine and great food. They have a tavern attached to the beer and wine store where you can get the best wings and cheesesteaks anywhere in the area. Self-serve beer and wine and great big-screen TVs make this an outstanding place to watch sports, have a quiet meal, or just hang out with friends in a really low-key environment. My family can't help stopping by at least a couple times a week just because we love the food and the service can't be beat. They have free wi-fi, Keno, Racetrax, and will gladly put anything you like on any or all of the screens. Never big crowds, obnoxious drunks, or surly staff to deal with, just a quiet spot known (until now) by the locals who pack the place on game days to take advantage of the NFL specials. They have a 4-6p.m. happy hour Monday through Friday where you can get 2 beers and an appetizer (go for the home made egg rolls) for under five bucks. Good luck getting that deal anywhere else. I haven't even begun to browse the wine selection here, so I'll let it be known that this is coming from strictly a beer nerd. The selection of chilled beers is definitely toward the "good" end of the scale, but isn't mind-boggling. Definitely top notch for the area but not worth a long drive for those of you further out. The prices are about average, meaning they're significantly lower than places like Beers & Cheers, where you'll pay roughly $8,674 for a six pack. The non-chilled beer section, while miles from "exhaustive," is a real treat. They do the oh-so-popular build your own six pack thing but, unlike many establishments where this doesn't really mean much, you actually get a 15% discount on six bottles. They've got some fairly obscure Belgians and Eastern European beers as well as a couple of rarities from all over the world. You'll also find an interesting mix of craft beers. Oddly, there's not much in the way of staples; you won't find the ten different bombers of Rogue that seem to be all the rage but you will find goofy one-offs from Great Divide. So, if you're a moderate-level beer nerd, this is pretty much the best price-to-selection ratio I've come across in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area. If you've already had most of the year-round lineups of the bigger names in craft beers and imports, this place is worth a visit as they'll often have some more obscure stuff that's always interesting. The owner (I guess?) who seems to be there most of the time is very friendly, seems pretty knowledgeable about beer or, at least, interested in carrying stuff that beer geeks like myself would be interested in drinking, so props to him for that. It comes a little shy of five stars as it's not as cheap or humongous as a place like Beltway Fine Wine in Towson, but I count myself lucky to have a quality place like this so close by. Friendly owners make this spot special. You can have a beer and play keno right on site, and get food as well. It is certainly a one stop shop of sorts. The food is good as well! I recommend anyone to give it a shot. They have the best selection of wines and beers in Germantown. Only downside is that they're not open very late. Still well worth it! read more

Stumbled upon this wine cellar while grocery shopping nearby. With covered doors and windows, the place looked a bit shady, but once you step foot inside it was kinda nice...they were playing some kind of popping bubble music and you see people just chilling in a corner watching tv. Really nice, cozy (yes, a cozy beer & wine..) atmosphere inside, and there is a connecting "tavern" as well. In addition to the standard stock, this place carried a larger selection of local MD wines than any other beer & wine I've been to. The staff was chill and helpful. Price was average. With every beer & wine around the corner, sometimes you have to stand out. Sugarloaf wine cellar is pretty neat and I'll definitely be back for more bubbles. read more
