First no greeting when you walk in the door. Then when the guy checked the person out in front of us had a nice friendly conversation and asked was he a member of the rewards club. Is the bigger store in the area, but it lacks friendliness. It also lacks real selection which I can confirm in the beer and spirit selection. The wife will confirm that the wine selection is not the best either. Aisles are wide, but of what? They advertise the large selection of wines and beer they carry. I don't see the selection they rave about. I didn't see any aquavit, the rum selection was mostly American brands. No Troegs in the beer selection, nor any real selection of imports. I'll suck to Orion and Urbana Liquors. They have a better selection, offer the same price and are happy to see you as a customer. read more

I feel sorry for Marylanders 'cause they can't buy beer in grocery stores. I mean there's a lot of really stupid laws here in Virginia, but at least we can get our drink on AND buy stuff to make sammiches at the same place. I digress... We stopped by Franklin on our way through the area to pick up a few things. I don't know anything about the area, but it feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, and yet their beer selection rivals some of the better shops I've been to. If I had to guess, they had at least 200 different types of beer, including many of the harder to find microbrews. Not only that, but the shop keeper was friendly without being creepy. Quite a feat for any establishment that only sells booze. I really was impressed all the way around. read more

Really good store for craft beer just outside of Urbana. Their selection of beer is almost (but not quite) as good as the selection at Ye Olde Spirit Shop on 7th street, but I always find a few surprises here, most likely because I don't think they get quite as picked over. The prices, as noted elsewhere, are very competitive, and the staff is really nice. They have a frequent buy club too! They seem to have a large wine/liquor selection too, but I can't comment on that, really. One word of warning: the parking lot is on a steep hill so be careful pulling in and out. read more

This place is fantastic!! It is our favorite place to buy beer. They have an excellent selection and have special-ordered for us on numerous occasions. They also have a wide selection of wine and liquor. The people are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The store also has a "rewards" program similar to grocery stores where you can earn points toward $ off in the future. Though it is close to home, I'll go out of my way to give them my business. read more

Excellent and Friendly service. If there is something you are looking for they will try to get it for you. Selection can be limited but I go regularly so they carry want I buy. Many of the prices are lower than some of the other local places. read more

Great place! Decent selection, and they have frequent beer/ wine / spirit sampling. Most of the staff are friendly, some are less so, but prices/selection/location are right, so I'm gonna keep coming back. Franklin's is the place to go to get your beer/wine/liquor, first and foremost because their prices beat competitors! There is a liquor store closer to my house but I go to Frankln's instead because I get a better value. The staff is very helpful as well! read more

It's convenient when I'm coming up from the DC area and sometimes I stop by but I swear the people are so terribly unfriendly. I know I look a little rough after a long day of being up since 3 AM but there's no greeting, they don't even look at me; today they didn't even offer to put my purchases in a bag.would it be different if I were buying a $100 bottle of wine? I just always get the impression that the people there absolutely hate their jobs or that the business is a cover or something for something else! I do like that it's clean and there's a variety. But after today I think I won't be back. read more
