Nucleus is a small art gallery exhibit and bookstore in Alhambra and this shop has been here as…read morelong as I can remember since the late 2000s. Apparently Nucleus expanded and opened a second location in Portland in 2016. [Parking]: Easy and free street parking. If parking is not available on Main St, then there are plenty of public parking spots and parking plazas in downtown Alhambra. [Space]: The space is separated into a bookstore at the front with various art books and a rotating art exhibit (Wicked in March 2026) at the back. All art on display is for sale. The bookstore sells mostly art books (both original works and artwork from specific anime, games, or pop culture) as well as various original greeting cards. Tickets are not required to see the exhibit and admission is free. [Conclusion]: A neat spot to see various unique art prints and a free exhibit. Chances are if you are at Nucleus then you are also here to check out other spots in downtown Alhambra (e.g. grabbing tea drinks or visiting other miscellaneous shops).

Also SOPA has a fantastic group of artists that are members -- all incredibly talented. If you're a student or have EBT you can access this museum for free. Parking is free as well. You reserve your tickets online & just present your proof of ID for student or EBT. There are 2 floors to this museum & an outdoor garden as well. A mix of European art , modern pieces , sculptures , & Southeast asian art as well. I was here for a good 2 hours for my last visit since I was taking it all in. Once done, I love to grab some kettle chips & a signature drink from their cafe by the garden. I sit & journal for a bit then walk around the gardens. The small souvenir store is delightful in where you can purchase small or large prints of your favorite pieces. Books , trinkets, & museum merchandise is also available. I will come back for their next exhibit to see what other pieces will be displayed.

A beautiful atmosphere that holds wonder, power, and magic. I felt special even though this day wasn't for me. This place is amazing but really small…read more I love that they have little workshops. I was here for a paint with flowers//tea. We used hibiscus, tumeric and butterfly pea flower. My work wasnt good but other had the most beautiful paintings. I dont know how they made such small lines when mines came out as blobs. Cyanotype Workshop is also really fun. It's just a clean and well-presented collection. Best of all, admission is free, which makes this an easy yes if you're anywhere near Pasadena and want something interesting to wander through.

Claire is an amazing artist with a full CV of accomplishments. He's willing to speak with visitors and share stories about the art and the building. It's been a gem hiding in plain sight for decades. I've been fortunate to experience their participation in the 2nd Saturday NELA Art Night. Many visual artists and musicians have exhibited here. One of my favorites is when visual and textile artist, Cidne Hart offers a Shibori dye pot workshop in the back alley. Bob and Claire are vital supporters of this artistic community and Highland Park, is so blessed to be the recipients of this creative hub. I recently brought relatives from Sweden and were lucky to arrive during open gallery hours. One of my guests is a blacksmith, Claire actually has blacksmith equipment in his cornucopia of a collection. If you do have an opportunity to attend an event or exhibit here, don't miss this opportunity. Every time I visit I see something I've never seen before.

The seating layout is all wonky, the screen isn't centered, and the projector is positioned so that anyone walking down a certain aisle blocks the light. The Experience Profile: Comfort-wise, the theater was a pretty big letdown. The seats were kind of dirty and uncomfortable, and most of them had an annoying metal bar right in front of them. The atmosphere during the movie was also a mess, the crowd was talking most of the time and constantly walking in and out, which kept letting outside light into the room. The Verdict: While the $7 price tag is incredibly cheap, the janky setup, dirty seating, and constant distractions mean this won't be a regular spot for me. I would honestly rather spend a little extra money to go somewhere else where I can actually enjoy the movie.

Went to see the Odyssey with my family yesterday. The sound quality was horrendous! It was so…read moreunnecessarily loud my head still hurts. Half of the movie I was sticking my fingers in my ears and it was still too loud. I don't know whether my seat was at the convergence point or resonance point of the speakers or something else, but it was an absolute auditory torture!!! The sound mix was even worse. The volume of the music and sound effects was much higher than the volume of the conversations. I could barely understand what the actors were mumbling because of how low the volume of the conversations was. Sound equalization was completely off. Somebody had taken the bass-treble control and pushed it to max bass with zero treble, completely destroying the sound's brightness and clarity. Also, I bought 5 expensive tickets for seats with recline control. Only 2 seats had functional recline control, the other 3 did not work at all, the buttons didn't do anything. $97 worth of tickets and $39 worth of overpriced popcorn and water bottles, just to go back home with a massive migraine. It was the worst movie experience I have had by a long shot...

Recently attended a movie night at SugarMynt Gallery when I was back in town last weekend. It was such an awesome experience and was also very safely set up. Seating was spaced for 6+ feet apart and there was an outdoor entrance and exit. Everyone was really respectful and it was a great experience. I missed the warm LA summer nights and I was so happy I got to experience one of them in the backyard of SugarMynt Gallery. Check out the movie nights to come in the future, great for all!! read more

visited SugarMynt last week and freaking LOVE IT!!!! I love how right when i pulled up i saw Michael Myers in the tree! haha great touch. The fact that the Sugarmynt is located in South Pasadena where they filmed the movie, Halloween and RIGHT next door to the original house from the movie is a huge plus. I'm glad their gallery came to So Pas. It's very quaint... a Santa Barbara feel to it. Very nice artwork that you can't locally. You should check out their pinot and paint event. I've gone to three of them. So much fun. Bring friends. It's a perfect date evening too. The owner is very nice and knowledgeable. read more

It was held at Central Park in Pasadena. Schoolhouse Garage parking is conveniently located a couple blocks away. Another fun afternoon checking out tons of merchandise/food (i.e., clothing, leather, ceramics, books, kids activities, butterfly garden, olive oil, honey) and food truck vendors. So many cool arts and handcrafted crafts made by talented people. Visited the Information Booth and bought a cute long sleeve shirt with a picture of the jackalope on it for $20. I had a $5 off voucher for use, hence, I only paid $15. Cool! I am a magnet collector of my travels. Bought two intriguing magnets from Weird Animals. Thanks! Crossed path with Dem' Nutz once again. So happy to take home some amazing nuts. Don't forget to support them wherever you find them. It will be worth your while. I'm in love with this market…read more My daughter and I did the butterfly garden and she spent over an hour in there. I would recommend this for small kids as they are free to go in with a paid adult ticket and you can go in all day with the stamp. The items they sell are so cute and so unique. Food items are delicious and you will have many options to pick from. From honey to boba to cured meats. It's a great way to try lots of different items.

The Victorian houses are beautiful and all the venders, scare actors and staff were friendly and accommodating. I was surprised to see Nikk Alcaraz giving out candy and signing his book, Peculiar Baking! I'm a big fan of his so I had to buy a copy of his cook book for my girlfriend. There were many photo ops, food vendors, atmospheric music, trick or treating and a few haunted mazes. The only thing lacking was parking. I recommend using a Ride Share company rather than struggling to park in their tiny parking lot or getting VIP parking. Today (Sunday, 4/26) is the last day until next year. If you're a fan of Halloween (the holiday and the movies) I highly recommend attending this swap meet.

The garage Gallery is located by the 110 freeway between (7th) and garland on a very dark street. Parking is very scarce its all meter however, there is parking right around the corner for 12$ and $10 Which, is a quick skip an a jump from the gallery. Side note: The 12$ parking has an attendant and the 10$ parking is by machine. Bring cash because the machine doesn't always work so good with a credit card! The gallery itself used to be an old auto mechanics garage they converted into an art gallery, which is un-like the typical Gallery's you'll find in downtown LA. It is a must see if your into a great art experience! The walls are covered with murals painted by extremely talented graffiti artist. The quality, color, and composition of the entire pieces will blow your mind, and the work is this absolutely fascinating! The traditional artwork displayed for purchase is canvas, digital, airbrush, t-shirts, prints, and vinyl. The artwork is hanging buy nuts and bolts and steel chains hooked to the roof very industrial ja ja. Here's where the experience becomes even cooler, the other half of the gallery is a huge dance floor highlighted by black light to highlight the neon murals painted on the walls. A cute female DJ plays music so if you like, you can dance, kick back, have a beer, or just relax and enjoy meeting new people. The ambiance here is totally relaxed and it's just a fun place to chill. The best thing about this Gallery is the owner and his name is Trek. He's a really nice guy an, I love that he's so passionate about artist, art, and the art scene in general. He's a credit to the kind of people that run the art scene in downtown Los Angeles. If you have a chance to make it out to his gallery I highly recommend because he will also greet you with a smile. Great owner, great gallery, and a great experience I highly recommend it!

Currently they are preparing for an installation which promises to be really cool. There were two guys setting up the installation and they let us in. They were not art snobs and that's a plus! The installation is comprised of interactive works of art. There are handles which you turn that makes the works of art come alive. This particular installation was pretty humorous in a provocative way in my opinion. The Box usually has very provocative art. Perhaps it is the gallery with the most controversial art in the whole CAD! The box has a pretty storefront. Parking nearby is $5 and up but if you are willing to walk a couple of blocks you can park for free in a little residential area to the north by Pho 87.

I went to Avenue 50 Studio for a poetry reading the other week, to celebrate the launch of a new…read morebook by Rocio Carlos and Rachel Kaminer. It was my first time at this venue, though I know it hosts readings and other cultural events all year round. It's a really lovely gallery in Highland Park, with a focus on Chicanx/Latinx visual arts. The space is welcoming, with several open rooms flowing into each other, each of them decked out with artwork. Until this weekend, you can see a Day of the Dead exhibit honoring photographer Laura Aguilar, with tribute photography from several artists, as well as a display of Aguilar's Day of the Dead coffin series from 1990. The reading was on a Friday night, so it was basically a party, with booze and snacks and a DJ (poet F. Douglas Brown) in addition to the poetry. It felt fun and vibrant and comfortable, like a party in a super cool artist's house. There were probably over fifty people in attendance, and we all fit comfortably in the main room when it came time to listen to the reading. If you're looking to add a little more art to your cultural diet, I'd highly recommend checking out Avenue 50 Studio. Check the calendar, too, as there are regular free events. You might get some music and literature to go with your dose of visual art.
