Just tried Suissa Salon, which recently opened their location at 712 N. Washington Blvd in North Old Town. I have naturally curly hair, and have a hard time finding anyone who can straighten it while making it look healthy and pretty (not just straight). My stylist, Mila, did a beautiful job ! This salon has good reviews, but I am a bit skeptical of the authenticity of the reviews now. They were not even skilled at basic coloring preparation and finishing. I was at the salon yesterday for a root touch up and the stylist was very sloppy in her work. Her rinsing and shampoo still resulted in coloring left on my scalp. I touched a spot and globs of coloring still remained when she claimed she was done rinsing. She didn't wrap my shirt collar which resulted in brown coloring staining my shirt. Excellent service!! Shirin did my hair. She was amazing!!!!! She was so friendly and smiling the whole time :) Highly highly recommended. She listened to me and showed me what she was doing step by step which I really appreciated. I had previously gotten a bad haircut and she fixed it up, yet still not cutting off too much from the bottom. I got balayage done and a layered haircut and after she blew it out. The balayage is Carmel colored and she got the color spot on. The Groupon is excellent but they also have 40% off new members on Monday and Tuesday which came out to a little less. This place was great. The hair stylist Ana was amazing. She took a sincere interest in getting my hair done. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so she gave very good suggestions and professional advice. I was treated not as a regular customer, but "Groupon". That's what my lady kept saying. I don't remember her name, but she was upset I didn't want my hair styled for $40. She kept saying "but ur Groupon?!" And got rougher and did my hair anyway. (So just don't pay for styling because they do it anyway) I went in for a baliage, since you can grow it out without roots. Well so much for that because my roots are very bad. I ended up with a solid color, not what I paid for. Not at all a baliage. Now I have to let it grow out and go see someone else because I look stupid. So that's more money I have to spend. The amount of breakage was also saddening. I started to see Harun, the owner at the beginning of the year after my previous stylist left unexpectedly due to family issues. I'm impressed with his knowledge of hair color and his technique when it comes to blow drying hair is AMAZING!!! I recently cut my hair very short and he did such a great job-I absolutely it! 2016: After looking for a new Hair Salon, I found Suissa on Yelp and couldn't be happier with my decision to go there. If you have short hair, beware --- Mila will make you look like your hair was cut with a hedge clipper. The first time I saw her, I showed her a picture of how I wear my hair and she gave me a pretty good approximation of the cut I wanted. She told me to grow it in a bit so that she could finish shaping the style. When I went back for the second cut I reminded her of what we had agreed on and once again showed her some pictures. I have no idea what she was thinking, but I ended up with one of the worst cuts I've ever had in my life. The last 5 weeks have been miserable -- my hair goes every which way, parts of it stand up on end, there are places where the hair doesn't blend into the next section of hair, etc, etc. Plus, she changed the overall shape so that I now look like I have an old lady haircut rather than a middle-aged woman cut. If you read the positive reviews of the salon, many are for long hair and coloring. If you have short hair and need a precision cut, I encourage you to look elsewhere. read more

I live across the street so not only this salon super close but its super awesome. I have yet to make an appointment and have had my hair done by 4 different stylists and they all were spectacular. I have thick, curly hair that takes some TLC, a wide tooth comb and a good hair straightener and the salon has all of it. I have never had to wait and get washed right away, Im usually in and out quite quickly. The salon is quiet, clean and everyone is friendly and skilled. I will keep going back! read more

I've been looking for someone who could do a good layered cut on wavy/curly hair since my favorite stylist left DC in 2014. I've finally found someone! A friend recommended Harun, and I'm so glad she did. I waited a week to write this to see if I liked the cut when I styled it curly and straight, and I really do. He also made great product recommendations now that my hair is getting dried out more easily as I get older. Harun is the most expensive stylist in the shop, so if you don't want to spend around $100 for a cut, you can go with one of the other stylists. But it was worth every penny for me. read more

Hi, my name is Brynn and I have thin, lifeless hair. Unless... I fall into the hands of a capable stylist. I get short cuts exclusively and let me tell you, I've had some bad experiences. I have been going to Harun (Owner) for almost 3 years. He is awesome. Always gives me what I am asking for - but suggest what he thinks is best. This salons best feature is the time it is open! For working professionals this is the salon for you. It is open 7 days a week and week days it is open until 9pm. As much as I don't like to be sitting under a dryer at 7:30 pm after work sometimes that is the only time I have. Harun has made arrangements to come in a bit early or stay late. I've been to this salon two times. My first visit was great and I had my haircut by Harun in January. I was very happy with my haircut and came because I moved nearby. However this review is more about my second visit for highlights in February. I saw Marwa and even though she was nice, my highlights did not come out well. I was initially shocked by the drastic change and it was very light and brassy. She also missed a large portion of the back of my hair! I was supposed to get full highlights and I paid $140.00! I have Asian hair and bleaching is very tricky so I'm not sure why she thought that was a good idea. My usual hair stylist never used bleach for highlights and always gave me great caramel colored highlights. Marwa could tell I wasn't pleased with my hair and offered to do a toner in a week. I just couldn't go back since I didn't want her to ruin my hair more. I'm only writing this review now since I had waited to get a color correction recently by my usual stylist in Maryland. read more

Cute little salon hidden in the fashion center mall in pentagon city!! The owner cut my hair and he was extremely friendly and did a phenomenal job! A nice lady with curly hair washed my hair and gave me a small head massage to start. The water pressure was a little high and it kept spraying up onto my face but Wasn't a big deal. You can clearly tell the owner has been cutting hair for awhile, everyone consults him and he is always making sure everyone's happy! He gave me some beautiful subtle layers and a nice trim!
