Brought my dog in mid-February, had asked for a full groom - wash nails, and haircut. came to pick the dog up and she hadn't had a hair cut. The owner talked about how the ticket only said wash and nails. I could leave the dog there for the rest of the day and they would do it but my dog hadn't really needed it. The owner went on to say that if I wanted to bring my dog back in 3-4 weeks, she would just do just the haircut. 4 weeks later, I set up an appointment for just a haircut, and confirmed it right then and there - just a haircut. Yes, they understood. I then confirmed again when I dropped the dog off. They understood. When I picked them up, they had done a full groom, which looked fine but wasn't what i asked for. The owner implied I had misunderstood, but wouldn't address that she had said I could come back for just a cut, and she would not answer questions about why her staff had agreed repeatedly to just a cut. She just kept saying she didn't understand the confusion, and I had to pay $150 because they had done a full groom. she wasn't even aware of how much they charged for a full groom at first. She discounted 20%. Her response to me saying I wouldn't be bringing her my business anymore was, "That's fine". This business is not registered with the BBB. I recommend you go elsewhere, but get everything in writing if you bring your animal here. read more

I moved to VA last year and didn't have a support network. My dog was struggling with anxiety, so I was relieved to find this doggie care, especially since the staff spoke my native language, which made me feel "at home." Unfortunately, every time I picked up my dog, he smelled strongly of urine (he's a poodle mix). Once, his coat was soaked in it. When I called to express concern, Andrea, the owner, became extremely defensive and took no responsibility. I didn't have other affordable options, so I continued using their services. After that call, things changed. Not only in how I was greeted by Andrea (even though I tried so hard to smile) but in how my dog responded. He was scared of that place, and began coming home with diarrhea after each visit. The last time, he was lethargic, did not recognize my voice and had very bloody diarrhea... Please be careful. Something happened to my dog while under their care. This is the first time in 9 years I see him under that condition. If anyone working there has seen something and wants to speak up, please do so.. Don't trust a place that has no cameras and no limits on the number of dogs they provide care for. Stay safe! read more

While boarding a small dog who was no more than 20 pounds, happy tails staff failed to follow proper procedure in putting the dog on a harness and as a result she ran into the road & died. Beware, you really get what you pay for. I brought my plush double-coated Keeshond, Shanti and they de-shedded her and completely removed her under coat. Shanti's coat was very wirey with coarse fur and looked like a different breed. While the de-shedding service was super cheap and enticing at only $60 compared to other groomer services at $150-200, it wasn't worth it. When I walked in, Shanti looked terrified and when I picked her up, she looked scared and traumatized. The other dogs getting groomed didn't look comfortable. I could sense it wasn't a good experience for her. The head groomer was not wearing a mask. They claimed Shanti had fleas, but we she has never had fleas before and took her to the vet a couple prior with no issues. I bet she contracted it here as it's not very sanitary. This grooming salon felt like a mill. While Coco Clips in Vienna is much more expensive, they put a lot of TLC and restored Shanti's fluffy thick coat. They were horrified when they saw Shanti's coat and claimed that the wrong tools were used for this delicate breed. Highly recommend Coco Clips in Vienna! read more

I recently moved to Arlington and decided to try this groomer for my dog. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. While the haircut was decent, there were multiple issues with our experience. When I requested a shorter cut (1/2 inch), the groomer insisted it was too short for my dog's breed--something our previous groomer had no issues with. I ultimately let her cut it as she saw fit, which left about 1-1.5 inches, much longer than I'd wanted. Also, plan to wait for an entire day if you come here. Despite a noon appointment, I didn't get a notification until nearly 5 PM--and that was only after I called to check. Lastly, I noticed a small cut on my dog's thigh a couple of days later--a very straight, clean cut, around 0.75-1 inch long. I can't be certain it happened during grooming, but I work from home and keep a close eye on my dog. Given the shape of the cut, it's very likely it could have been from a clipper. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this groomer. If you do go, expect a long wait and check your pet thoroughly after the groom. read more

Disappointing Experience! I recently brought my two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels to Happy Tails in Falls Church, for grooming, expecting to make it my go-to place in our new neighborhood. I didn't expect them to be experts in the breed-specific cuts, so I took the time to explain specifically where they needed to be trimmed and where they shouldn't be cut, but they didn't take me seriously. Unfortunately, the groomer seemed to be inexperienced and unfamiliar with how to groom this breed properly but also, the haircuts were a disaster, uneven and amateurish, leaving a straight line of hair in the belly and untidy fur. The overall process felt rushed although it took 6 hours to get them ready. I am very upset and it has been an extremely disappointing experience, and I cannot recommend this place for specialized dog grooming needs. read more

Upon initially asking the groomer, AKA ANDREA, who is apparently also the manager, how did this happen? She responds with "I don't know." Are you serious???? Come on... You don't KNOW? How can you not know? He was with you for the duration of the time YOU were grooming him. Just doesn't make any sense. Upon calling her this afternoon to get more info she: 1) Completely denied any sort of responsibility and tried to explain to me that the dog had ear irritation prior to coming in? WHICH HE DIDN'T. It is evident that once he got home he was shaking his ear, I checked and inside of his ear was red and swollen - A clear sign of water into the ear canal. Now I need to pay more money and time to get this new issue taken care of. 2) Claimed she, too, has dogs (ok? Congratulations, so do I... clearly) 3) Didn't even address the red irritation on my pup's belly AT ALL, even when directly asked about it 4) Said she doesn't have time for this and hangs up the phone because she can't handle any negative feedback about the services she provides So at the end of the day - save yourself the trouble, time, and dog's health and DON'T COME HERE. If something happens, Andrea will deny responsibility, tell you that she too owns dogs, and will hang up the phone on you because she doesn't have time to account for her actions and doesn't really care about your dog and the service that was provided. I took my puppy to daycare here from when he was about 4 months old until he was 9 months old, and we ended up moving out of the area. We were really bummed to move away, daycare here was GREAT for him, he is very energetic and could play with similar energy-level dogs. He came home exhausted each day! I love that the dogs get to free-roam all day. We boarded him once for a long weekend and that went really well, too! The staff is super friendly and it's clear that they genuinely care about your dog. I recommend boarding and daycare with Happy Tails! The only constructive criticism I have for Happy Tails is to send out some photos/videos of their day- I love to see what my pup is up to! read more

Winnie desperately needed a nail trim (I'm not comfortable doing it for her on my own yet) so I went ahead and dropped her off at Happy Tails and added on a bath and blowout as well. I was given a 3-4 hour window. When I picked Winnie up, she was happy, clean and fluffy! In addition to the nail trim, Andrea and her team also cleaned out her ears, smoothed out her foot pads and gave her a sanitary trim. They also put a complimentary bandana on her as well! Appointments can be made through their online booking system, or by calling in. They also offer daycare and boarding services which I may consider in the future. As with any new dog service, please remember to bring a copy of your pup's vaccinations. read more

I was so nervous to find a new groomer and relied on Yelp reviews and much more-so availability to get an appointment for my 17 year old dog. He used to be groomed by my mother the majority of his life but when she fell ill to Covid, she couldn't do so anymore. I found a new excellent groomer in their home willing to work with older difficult dogs who need more time and they too became unavailable. Happy Tails was my first experience with a "commercial groomer". I was nervous at first because the shop looked really busy with tons of dogs and mine is an old fragile one needing attention. Adding to that, I didn't get the small shop vibe, it felt a bit commercial and the welcome conversation lacked warmth for a beloved pet. Certainly customer service skills here were most in need. Several hours later, Andrea took my old Maltese that was basically a matted broom and made him so comfortable and soft, although she firmly noted he was long overdue. Of course, I had explained my mother's sickness and regular groomer's sudden departure at this point so while true it seemed unnecessary to belabor the point. Afterwards, she was concerned he didn't look aesthetically perfect and she didn't do as much as possible, which I disagree is the importance. He is more comfortable now and came home calm, albeit he is on pain meds. I want to thank Andrea for her willingness to push through what I am sure was a more difficult grooming session to improve Duke's quality of life, and mine! read more

I brought my 16 week old Bish-poo puppy here for daycare because it was close to my place of employment. It was the first time leaving him anywhere. Additionally, I asked if they could give him his first grooming while he was there. The groomer said they would give him a quick puppy cut since it was his first time. When I came back to pick up my puppy 9 hours later he was having so much fun other small dogs that he didn't even notice that I had arrived. The attendant brought my puppy Jax to me. He was so happy, he looked and smelled so good and was so soft. The groomer did a beautiful job. On the way home my puppy fell asleep in the car and was totally tuckered out for the night. I was really pleased with my first experience with Happy Tails staff and service. I am looking forward to bringing Jax back next week for daycare. read more

That leaves a 11 month old puppy in such a debilitating state? We can't even recognize our happy and energetic puppy... he's now on antibiotics, anxiety medicine, and pain killer. Do not bring your dog here for boarding. We left our 16-year-old beagle mix for three nights. When I picked her up I could immediately tell something was wrong with her. She was randomly crying out in pain in the lobby of Happy Tails. The yelping/crying continued at home along with nonstop shaking. Our vet thinks our dog somehow hurt her neck. She's been on pain meds and anti inflammatories for 3 days now and she still randomly cries out in pain and quivers. When this happen she hides from us. This is not like my dog. I called Happy Tails to ask if they noticed anything odd. They said she threw up once (but they never called to tell us or mentioned it at checkout). The groomer who gave her a bath and trimmed her nails was off when I called and has yet to return my call. I knew my dog was older and I had talked about her advanced age when inquiring about boarding. I feel so guilty that I brought her here. I don't know what happened and maybe it's a coincidence, but she's never had neck issues before. Don't go here. We may have to put our dog down because she is in so much pain. read more

The groom itself was pretty good, though Theo's ears were cut more square than normal. They also didn't trim his hair around his paws as much as other places typically do so his paws still had hair growing over them slightly. The location was clean and I had no concerns about leaving Theo. My two main concerns: 1. I know that groomers are very hesitant to give exact pricing, though it's pretty normal to know a general range. On the phone, they told me the price would be $45-65 and that a partial groom was $40-45. When I asked for a quote on yelp, I was told $80. When I got to the location, I mentioned the yelp quote but they told me it would still likely be closer to $65. Each time I described him the same way, so I just recommend that the staff are all on the same page regarding pricing. For those curious, the final price was $80 and my dog is an ~18 pound labradoodle with relatively short hair. 2. I specifically requested that the groomer not pluck his ear hairs as Theo gets ear infections when his ears are plucked. They did pluck his ear hairs - which I didn't realize until I was back home- and I thought maybe it was fine. Unfortunately, he does now have an ear infection in both ears which I will have to treat. I would have added one star if not for the ear plucking, but this was something that was pretty important and was ignored. read more

I tried to reach out to Happy Tails by both messaging them on their website and calling them and they did not get back to me, so I've resorted to posting here. When we boarded our dog here, we expected her to be in a safe environment and that did not happen. While in the care of Happy Tails, our dog chewed and ate a large portion of a plastic water bowl (she doesn't do this at home so I assume she was anxious in her new environment). We understand that accidents happen, but the fact that we were not called when the incident happened to ask if we wanted to seek vet care, nor were we informed when we picked her up that we should be on the lookout for any abnormal behavior, is completely unacceptable. We only found out because several days after we brought her home, she started throwing up white plastic pieces. We ended up with a vet bill of hundreds of dollars and hours of stress and monitoring her due to the inability of Happy Tails to properly communicate with us. Happy Tails only told us what had happened after I called them from the vet's office to ask if they had any idea why she was sick. They told us what had happened and that she had been sick while she was there and also sent me a picture of the bowl she had eaten. We are extremely lucky that things weren't worse since the plastic pieces could have pierced her stomach. We had a great experience bringing our dog here for the past 4 years and it's really unfortunate that this happened. It's even more unfortunate that after I called to ask if they knew why she was throwing up white plastic and they admitted that they did, no one called me to apologize for not informing us or even to ask if she was ok. If that had happened, we may had reconsidered bringing her back in the future but this shows me that they do not care about her safety. I've asked for a refund of our boarding stay as our dog was not safe and as we had to spend hundreds of dollars at the vet. I have not received a response to this request. I'd also recommend upgrading to metal water bowls. read more

My review will be focusing on their daycare service because that is the main service that I use, although I was extremely happy with the bath and brush I got there too. When Andrea first let me look around the facility, I knew it was the right choice. They have it decorated in a super cute and calming way. Bright colors and plenty of light, which was a concern of mine from some other daycare spots I had checked out. My dog LOVES going here and gets so excited to see all of the staff. I can tell they really care about her as well. It's a small family-run business, and they light up when they see her and treat her very affectionately, which I was extremely pleased with. Every time we go, as soon as we pull up to the building my dog starts getting super pumped! I can be a pretty overprotective dog parent, and they are very willing to accommodate in any way needed and they let me know what's going on with my pup. One time I asked if they could send me some pictures of my dog during the day, and they ended up sending me a bunch of photos and videos! She looked like she was having a great time. They feed her during the day if I bring food and always let me know how much she ate. Once I forgot the food so they fed her some snacks that they had and I really appreciated that. One time she lost some baby teeth and they let me know and were very reassuring that it was completely normal, and they even gave me the tooth! They also take the dogs for a walk during the day and give them a couple short nap breaks. On top of all that, they have a nice storefront area where you can buy toys or food, and a very cute doggie hotel area. I believe Andrea also mentioned that there will be an outdoor area in the future. They are very conscious not to have TOO many dogs at once, so I would suggest you GET IN NOW before this place catches on and is always full, because it's that great. read more

I haven't written reviews, but I am writing this so other F1 goldendoodle parents can be aware if they considering this business for their fur child. My 6 month doodle boy was due for his first full groom, and I found this place on Yelp. On the day of the appointment, I showed the groomer the cut that I was looking for. My pupper has wavy fur (not curly) so after showing her a couple photos, we settled on a look that was doable. I asked if she would like for me to text the photo, but she said she's good to go. Three hours later when I came back to pick up my pupper, the groomer came to the counter and told me how my I owed her. I asked to see him first, and when she brought him out, he was being kept in a crate though they operate a small daycare. (I saw a golden retriever leaving the premise, and I'm not sure how they operate the daycare if an energetic, friendly pupper can't be in the mix). Back to the story - I was shocked when I saw my fur child's clip. He looked nothing like the picture I showed her, and the hair above his eyes were cut in a way so there is a hard line above his eyes. (Picture attached) I can deal with how short the fur on his body is, but he totally lost the doodle look. She had also cut the fur around his mouth like a schnauzer which is not what was in the picture. She offered to make things better, and I showed her the picture again, and the fur around his mouth was trimmed, but I realized there's nothing she can do to fix this mess so I said it's fine and paid (WITH tip in light of COVID) then left. That said, maybe f1b doodle or Yorkie owners may be served here, but be warned if you own an F1 doodle with wavy hair or if you have a specific look you haven't seen in their Yelp pictures! They will try to stiff you with a $80-90 bill (before tips) before you see the ugly cut they give your fur child. If I could turn back time, I would have steered clear from this place.
