Dr Sumit Mahajan is my doctor. He is the best doctor I have ever had. he really cares about his patients.

This review is not about Dr. Mahajan himself, it's about my recent interactions with one of his staff that are making me start to think about changing doctors. I have been trying to get a prescription authorized by his office since last week, a prescription I need, but have now run out of. I have called my pharmacy about it and they told me that all of their other recent requests for authorization for other patients' prescriptions lately are also being ignored. I am searching for the right place to complain to, but in the meantime, I need my med! The reaction I get from whoever answers his office phone is rudeness and a complete lack of assistance. I don't want to change doctors, but I'm seriously starting to consider it. (If the problem is understaffing, though, hire additional staff!) read more

This is the doctor for my mom and my grandma in Yucca Valley. He doesn't pay attention or really care. My mom had to go to Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles to get help and their feedback was this was a chronic vascular problem she had for 20 years that never got diagnosed that Mahajan had termed Bursitis. He is so busy he doesn't listen or hear. He has misdiagnosed my mom for years. He is also the doctor for my grandma and he doesn't take her pain seriously or give the attention it deserves. He is in a rural area so people are forced to take his B grade half engaged technique. I warn anyone to sign up with this doctor, he is just not that engaged, checked out, out of tune! My grandma is 99 and she has to argue with him for her medication after severe pain of one week and he doesn't take it seriously. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, one of the most difficult and inconsiderate doctors and dr office I've ever dealt with! Not only would he not see me for an emergency, not even via tele-health, to diagnose a bite that was becoming worse, but waits to have his staff call me back until one he's out of the office, and two waits till urgent care is closed, which was his suggestion to go to or wait another 48 hrs until he can get me in over the phone! read more

office and billing and insurance coding was wrong everytime. charged for 2 visits that one was cancelled by them and i cancelled 2nd one. was charged the same amount as first 2 visits. one was a new patient visit and one was with NP. why would they charge the same amount twice when i never saw dr. 2nd time, nor the NP. the staff put all the wrong insurance codes in. had to fight with them to fix it. ordered unnecessary lab work. very, very rude office staff. most terrible service ever experienced. read more

I've seen just about every doctor within 50 miles of Twentynine Palms. I'm young with recent onset chronic illness and all other doctors acted put out when I went to them for help, a diagnosis and treatment options - I was just a nuisance they didn't have a pill for. Dr. Mahajan is the first doctor that not only picked up on the cause of my illness in the first appointment, but that was interested and willing to treat a case more complex than the sniffles. I highly recommend this doctor, especially if you're dealing with any chronic or undiagnosed illness/symptoms. He's the only doctor in 29 Palms, Yucca Valley, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, or Indio that I would even consider recommending - yes, I have seen that many. In fact, before Dr. Mahajan I was driving down to Santa Monica for primary care. Making an appointment was easy, no crazy two-three week wait times. You get to see an actual doctor (rather than paying to see a doc and being forced to see incompetent nurse practitioners *cough*Jones-Poland's office*cough*). The only downside I forsee is he seems to have the typical 15 minute appointment time allotments, which generally rush your time with the doctor and/or leave you waiting in the waiting room 30-45 minutes if the doctor is thorough with patients when needed. He spent the extra time with me, though, and I didn't feel rushed, but I could see it being a potential problem. read more

The front desk staff is very friendly. If all you need is a general practitioner, this office will be fine. Twice during my initial consult, he said to the affect; "Sorry, could you repeat that? I wasn't listening". He was busy on his laptop. He bills the insurance company for an "extended visit", even if you see him for just a minute. He, and especially his nurse's, understanding of pharmacology is minimal. Twice his staff demanded that I see him before I could get a prescription refilled (that my previous Dr. had me on for about five years), and when I saw him, both times he asked why I was there. He demands that prescription refills be requested through the pharmacy, but then he ignores the faxes. He is pleasant, and I think he means well, but the wait times (typically over an hour) and the lack of a good nurse diminish the visit. Update; Now with a year of visits under my belt, I'm giving it three stars. Still needs better co0ordination between Dr. and front staff. Dr. Sumit is understanding and helpful. Receptionist is nice, but the refill policy is poor. Even local pharmacies say it is one of the worse offices to deal with. read more

My extended family and I have been patients of Dr. Mahajan's for over 20 years. You will not find a more caring, personal doctor in our valley. He goes out of his way to help his patients and is extremely knowledgable across the medical spectrum. His staff is fantastic as well. They too, have gone above and beyond what's expected of them. "First let me preface by saying" I am a very pleased client of Dr. Mahajan. My grandmother was in his exceptional care, my mother is in his exceptional care and I am in his exceptional care. There is not a doctor anywhere that I would trust with the care of my family like I do Dr. Mahajan. My grandmother and now my mother were and are being cared for with COPD, a debilitating, frustrating and emotional disease that DOES NOT remiss or go away but simply gets worse. Dr. Mahajan take the time my family needs to go over Q&A about EVERYTHING that has to do with this disease. I do not worry about my mother's care because of the way he treats my mother as a patient, nor did I have to worry when he cared for my grandmother. Been going to Dr Mahajan for several years now and find a reasonable staff and marginal front desk, however they will not be going out of their way to provide what I would consider good customer service. The doctor is very forgetful and you never know which Doctor M is going to show up that day, the caring dr or the grouchy dr. Dr M will not be going out of his way for his patients and you may find yourself explaining things over and over. Also, he seems prone to want to spend your money on numerous and unnecessary blood tests. My wife has also had similar experiences with dr m so we have been able to compare notes and came to the same conclusions. However there is not much other choice in the area either. One other thing, Dr M also acts as the office manager as well and you can feel the tension. read more

Let's preface this by saying that I am a physician so I usually get good service. Maybe Dr. Mahajan just doesn't like seniors, because I can see that he gets some good reviews. But he was horrible in taking care of my father (one of his nursing home/hospital patients). He was non communicative, would not answer phone calls or questions, was not well liked the staff and bills for a lot of what seem like unnessary tests/procedures. When I first started to go to this doctor, I was in pretty good health and really only went to get my meds that I have taken for many years for a skin condition. But then I had issues with pain in my right side. He had a cat scan done and told me I had kidney stones and gall bladder stones. I was really surprised. It took for me to call him back a few days later to ask if we are not doing anything - he said drink plenty of water for the kidney stones and if there is no pain, the gallstones are ok. Well, I had pain. Then he said surgery. Wow - nothing in between?? He said no. So I had the surgery to find out that there were no stones! Just a "mushy mess" according to the surgeon. After doing some research on my own, there would have been other things we could have done. Oh and he told me "by the way, your liver is enlarged" which really scared me. I asked what can we do? is response was " oh it is not a big deal, it is only borderline" Well, that caused me to get a second opinion. I picked up my bloodwork and saw a different doctor. Turns out that I am also borderline diabetic! I suppose Mr. Mahajan will only start to care if it is beyond borderline and he can prescribe medications and he can make extra money that way. There were other, minor things, I only mentioned to bigger issues. BIG disappointment!! I will never go there again! read more

I wrote a good review for Dr. Mahajan when I first met with him. He took the time to talk to me and he presented as caring and informed. Then I became ill. I won't go into the dreadful details but suffice it to say that I filed a complaint and my current doctor agreed that I should have been referred to a gynecologist at the start of my symptoms instead of the months and multiple office visits that resulted in no help at all. In addition, an order for an ultrasound was written incorrectly which added to the delay in proper treatment. read more

Dr. Mahajan is a great doctor!! He listens, he cares, he is knowledgeable, and thorough. We met him at high desert hospital after my wife was admitted for a-fib. She spent more than a week in the hospital while they got her heart back into rhythm. Dr. Mahajan provided amazing care and prevented my wife from having to get her heart muscles burnt. Seeing how he cared for my wife, how he interacts with his other patients, and the good things the nurses had to say about him at high desert hospital, I decided to have him be my primary doctor as well. The doctor has helped me deal with my chronic pain and has improved the quality of my daily life. After receiving great care we brought my disabled mother to Dr. Mahajan to be her primary doctor as well. He cut her medication dosage, got her to stop taking unnecessary supplements, and she has never been better. The doctor and his staff are always friendly, professional, and compassionate. The front desk staff is very friendly. The receptionist Penny is wonderful; she is very busy but always has a smile, a positive attitude, great listening skills, and knows who you are. Dr. Mahajan and his staff have consistently provide excellent care to myself, my wife, and my mother and I would highly recommend the doctor to anyone looking for a care provider. read more
