I am a bit of a yoga junkie and definitely will scour the local discounts to see which studios offer new student packages and take advantage of the deals and check out the studio to see if I want to become a regular member. This studio offers $20 for 2 weeks intro special for new students, so I definitely signed up for this deal! If you end up going just twice, that'll only be $10/class, which is a steal! I definitely do not like to pay for physical activity. Yea, I am a cheapskate like that, but love to get in a good sweat! I signed up for the 5:30pm Sumits Yoga 80 and my instructor was Michael Watman. This studio reminds me of a Bikram style studio, however, this studio has classes that are variations of the 26 & 2, which I like. The studio is heated between 100 - 106F and there is def humidity added in, so be prepared to sweat! Women's changing room has 2 showers, so if you like to rinse off after a hot and sweaty class, that is available for you. Lots of cubby holes for storage in the women's changing room and also in the common area. There seems to be at least 2 rooms for classes available and we were in the back room, which was a very decent size and good mirrors so you can check out how well you are aligned in your poses. Room does get hot so if you don't like it too hot, stay near the doors. If you like it hot, move towards the edges of the room. Michael is a solid instructor and definitely enjoyed the 80 minutes of sweat and stretch class! I'll definitely be back for other classes to see how other instructors are! If you're a serious yogi and enjoy a good heated stretch with a studio that is no frills but has everything you need, definitely give this place a try! read more

This is probably one of the hardest hot yoga studios I have ever been to. The space is extremely hot and humid during practice that everyone is profusely sweating. I think this level of heat and humidity also leads to it kind of smelling... mildewy? As a new student, it was a little confusing coming in, trying to check in and understand where to put my belongings and where to set up. The instructor was busy running around the studio setting up and was in conversation with other students. I tried the Sumits 60 class and I was absolutely drenched at the end of the session. The instructor stands at the back of the room and the music is quite loud, so it can be a little hard to understand/know what the next postures are supposed to be, so you find yourself having to stop to take a look to understand what is being cued next. I was also surprised to find at the end of class there were no cleaning supplies to wipe down my mat. It was a great workout, but I'm not sure if the environment/experience is for me. read more

This is a great studio with excellent instructors. I LOVE Leah and Chrissie's classes and took Justin's class today. I really appreciate the corrections and enjoyed the variety he provided. I don't think I've had hands on correction since 2019 and I'm not young so sometimes I need to be physically moved to get it through my head :) LOL. After being absent for around 4 months or so I came back to a newly managed Sumits Yoga. New beginnings for a new workout regimen. The setup was changed up with a couple high tables and chairs, as well as a table for retail goods immediately when you walk in. I appreciate the cozy look of the layout but I just wonder how often yogis are actually hanging out on the high tables and chairs. I prefer an open layout. Change is good so maybe people might like it more! :) I noticed that the Monday 530pm class was highly sparse than the last time I attended months ago. What happened?! At the same time it was nice because it wasn't too crowded and you can have lots of space around you. The instructors from the past 2 classes I attended this year were friendly yogis. I've tried hot yoga before but Bikram Yoga. I don't know what the name of the type of yoga they do here. But it is quite different from Bikram. Bikram has more calm, smoothing music and the yoga here is more modern, hip hop-ish, pop music. They dim the lights, sometimes even turn them off. The classes are 1.20 hours long. And let me tell you, it's definitely a long class! Our teacher name is Amanda, she gave a positive vibe out to everyone. She even introduced herself before the class to the new yoga students. I felt so refreshed and cleansed after the class. I definitely would recommend it to others. read more

Years ago, I used to do very intense workouts similar to Crossfit. I LOVED it and thought I would never do anything else again. Every once in awhile, I would injure my shoulder, or tweak my back or something that would put me out of commission for a few weeks. No big deal until the back injuries started getting worse each time and the treatments stopped working. I had back surgery in May of 2017 due to herniated discs. I have treated the pain multiple ways, from chiropractors, massage, trigger point injections...you name it, I've tried it. It wasn't until I decided to make yoga a part of my daily life, that I saw the change that I have always been looking for. On New Year's 2018, I decided to start a 30 day challenge to see how my back would respond. I didn't stop there. Officially, I clocked more than 300 hours in 2018 at this amazing place. My life is FOREVER changed. 2018 was the first year in 5 years that I haven't spent at least 2-4 weeks bedridden, and have not used my cane even ONCE! Yoga in itself has been life changing, but this place is the reason I keep going. I've tried yoga at numerous locations, and have yet to find teachers and other students with as much love and care for each other as Sumits Chandler. We push each other, learn from one another, celebrate accomplishments, and coach areas for improvement. The support has been incredible. There have been a few times where something isn't working correctly, like the sound or humidity. I have found myself questioning if I could do the same workout while missing these key elements. The attitude of the instructors got me through each and every time. They are so willing to keep a positive attitude and work through different challenges, it inspires you to keep going. I've been to quite a few Sumit's locations and this one definitely stands out to me. It is pretty clean considering how many different people come here and get sweaty. I especially appreciate the variety of yoga instructors at Sumit's Chandler. I love two minutes away from Sumit's Tempe, however, I've found the classes and instructors to be so much more diverse at Sumit's Chandler that I am willing to drive 20 minutes to the Chandler location. I prefer hotter classes and upbeat, fun music. There have been some classes I did not enjoy because the instructor opened the door too often, which made the class too cool, or because I did not like the music selection. However, the class schedule is available online with times, type of class, and instructor name. This way I can look ahead and make sure I only go to classes with instructors that I like and there is such a variety of instructors. This is a great benefit! The studio often runs special deals so that you can buy class packages at a discount. If you've never been to Sumit's Chandler before, then I recommend seeing if they're running a Groupon because that is always an AWESOME discount. I also have want to commend the owner/manager for great customer service. I was unable to attend any hot yoga classes for an extended period of time due to a back injury. When I returned to Sumit's Chandler, my class package was about to expire with over 40 classes left. The management, fortunately, worked with me to extend my class package so that I could ease back into yoga without putting too much strain on my back. I really appreciated that Sumit's Chandler made me feel like they were more concerned about me as a customer than the money they would make from requiring me to purchase a new package. read more

Any exercise at this point is good, no matter where you go or who you are. For me, I've done Yoga in the past, but I usually do Bikram, which consists of the same 26 poses in a heated studio. Since I wanted to relive some stress and get Yoga on, Megan and I came here to have some fun together. I've never been to this studio before, and we had a really good time. The studio has 3 different studios inside. One appears to be a practice studio, the other one had people doing random stuff in it, and the third was where we held our class. The studio we were in had wood floors, which was a first for me. I've never seen that before! The lady who checked us in was really helpful and told us what to expect. I rented a mat for an extra $1, and the drop in fee was $16. I've seen other studios charge $18, so that wasn't alarming. The lobby area was specious with some limited seating. We waited for our class to start and in we went. Here's where things get confusing. Okay, I thought it was going to be like my previous Bikram with the same 26 poses. The poses here were totally different with only a few similar poses that I was used to. The instructor was cool and did a good job keeping us focused, but I got lost!!! I wish he would have done some explaining of what was going on. He would call out poses and I was wtf is he talking about??? Can you stand at the front of the class and give some of us an idea of what you are talking about? Show us? The other people in class totally knew what was going on, so I followed them for the most part. It's not that the instructor sucked because he didn't. But, he knew we were first timers and I wish he would have spent a little more time at the front of class at least showing what some of us *cough* ME *cough* should have been doing. So I struggled and tried to keep up. Afterwards the instructor said I did a really good job, which made me feel better. I was worried that I had embarrassed myself but I did not. I got a lot out of this class, and feel like a million bucks right now. Thank you Sumit Yoga for a good hearty work out! read more

Immediately when I walked in I felt unwanted. I was a little hesitant to attended the class because I do yoga for a spiritual balance and healing. So if the instructors energy feels off then it can throw off the whole class. I decided to go anyway since I was already there and while doing the yoga poses my shoulder began to hurt so to a car accident. So I stepped out the room to stretch and get some fresh air. While I was sitting on the bench the lady upfront asked if I was done and I told her no I just needed to step out. She told me I couldn't be upfront because she was about to step out and I would be alone since they had no one else there. So I responded with okay just give me a sec I was in a car accident and this was my first yoga class since then. I went into the class and after trying again my energy was just off at this point so I decided to grab my things and leave quietly since I was in the back of the room anyway. The owner later called me and asked me to not come back until I had a doctors note because I kept leaving class. Yoga is suppose to help with people and there postures and healing. I told her my accident was a year ago but she insisted I don't come back. I feel discriminated against as a biracial woman. That's like telling someone with a disability they can't come in and do yoga. I would not recommend this place for positive energy or to be treated appropriately. Also, there is a young man leaving a review that had a shoulder injury and her was welcomed because it helped improve his shoulder injury but I'm not allowed and why? read more

I've been coming here an average of twice a week since this middle of Aug. 2016. I love all the classes I've attended so far. I've been to a few different times of day including Saturday and Sunday classes. My favorite class is Monday night at 7:00pm taught by Harris. He is awesome. One of the best instructors I've had. He is always reminding of proper form, focusing on correct body positioning and breathing. He is positive and uplifting. I always find correction in my practice which has helped me, and I've noticed a huge improvement in my overall strength. I thought 'hot yoga' would be really crazy to try. It has improved my weight training as well as my running and other cardio fitness. It is a positive influence in my overall fitness and mental well being. The center is clean and the staff is very helpful and welcoming. The locker room provides a couple showers and private area to change. There are no lockers or secured areas for personal items, but as of yet, my belongings have been safe. I suppose if you want more of a secure place for your belongings, it may be useful to bring a lock for your gym bag. Bring a mat and a yoga towel, large container of water and an extra towel for wiping sweat.........and you will sweat! Lol read more

I had been practicing hot yoga for a year and a half before moving out here in August. Since then, I've been having some trouble 1. finding time to practice and 2. finding a decent yoga studio to practice at. My friend introduced me to Sumit's Yoga after she saw an ad for it in a magazine offering 2 weeks unlimited free. I had gone a few times to a different yoga studio in Chandler and didn't love it, so I decided to give Sumit's a go. Well, after my first class, I'm not sure about it. I didn't dislike it, but I also didn't LOVE it. In all honesty, I don't think I'll ever LOVE a place as much as the place I left in Chicago, but I want to at least come out of the studio and be like, I LIKE this place! I came out of Sumit's being like, I'm not sure what just happened. I have to come again...maybe. Let me give you a re-cap. Upon entering, Sumit the owner was at the front desk chattin' it up with someone. He seemed to know a lot of the people coming in, so that was kind of nice. He had me sign a waiver (as all yoga studios should) but didn't really explain it to me because he was busy chatting. Understandable that being personable is important to the sustenance of the studio, but what if I was someone TOTALLY new to hot yoga and didn't know what I was getting into? I think it's important to take a minute with a newbie to discuss some of those things before going in to make that person feel totally welcome. Granted, he did take the time to point out where the women's locker room was, but I could've figured that out on my own. I may NOT, however, been able to figure out how my body was going to feel the next day or that I should continue to drink plenty of water even after the class (things newbies might not know). When I entered the studio, I was really surprised the see the floor was actual floor (some type of wood or maybe bamboo). All other yoga places I've been to have had a carpeted floor. Not actual fuzzy carpet, but you know what I mean. I thought it would be uncomfortable during poses that required me to be on my back, but it actually wasn't so bad. Anyway, the first half of the course was led by someone other than Sumit, but the last half was instructed by him, and I have to say, I liked that part the least. It's some sort of power yoga where he pumps up the tunes to a ridiculous volume and makes you plow through the poses really quickly, which I don't think is very safe. We were being put into poses that we didn't go through in the first half of the class, so I thought damage could've been done to some of those unused muscles all of a sudden being used at a very fast pace. I thought stretching some of those muscles out suddenly wasn't very safe, either. The volume was up so loud, too, that I couldn't hear anything Sumit was saying, so at one point, I just stopped. At that point, I'm looking around the room, and I see that a girl was resting on her back with her eyes closed, and Sumit was pouring water on her chest from her water bottle! I was like, What is going ON here?! She didn't seem to mind, though, so I was concerned that this was something he did often. That was what really threw me. Up until that point, I tried to keep an open mind and say that all studios are different, but THAT was a little too different for me. I also didn't like how the ad that my friend gave me advertised yoga with music (which was something the other studio I went to did NOT have that I did not like), but only the loud-blasting music during the second half of the class was it. Still, I liked the first half of the class for the pace, the second half for the music, and I came out sweating like I should, so I'll give this studio another try. My wife's wallet was stolen while she was in class. The studio provides no security for valuables other than "cubbies." Either someone came into the studio from the outside or someone in her 4:00 to 5:30 PM class stole her wallet. Supposedly there is always someone at the front desk, so the filthy scumbag thief is probably someone in her class. This scumbag tried to ring up charges on my wife's debit card at CVS and at a Shell station, but Bank of America declined them. Next they tried her Mastercard and charged $161 at Walgreens and another $59 at Virgin Mobile. Then they used her Visa card to for another $300 in charges. All cards are cancelled scumbag and the charges reversed. We had to spend several hours on the phone with the police, credit reporting agencies, bank, and credit card companies. Even worse, my wife lost precious, irreplaceable pictures of her deceased father. Due to the lack of security for valuables, I would not recommend this business and am encouraging my wife to NEVER go back. read more

Wish I had jumped on the hot yoga bandwagon much sooner. Really enjoy going to Sumits. It's an incredible 80-minute workout that, thanks to the music, actually gets me to shut my brain down and not think about all the days' challenges. The workout is ideal for all yoga levels, and I feel like I can push my practice each time. The instructors are fantastic. They're open seven days a week, and the weekend classes are really relaxed - not so crowded. The weekday evening classes can get pretty packed so get there early to stake out your space. You can bring a friend for free on Tuesdays. Great way to try Sumits for the first time. Watch for deals around the holidays. read more

This studio is probably the best hot yoga studio I have been to. I went there several times a week for about a month over the summer and enjoyed it every time. I love the music they play and I love that the teachers are knowledgeable and motivational. I really got a great workout while going. The space is clean and even smells good....that's pretty awesome for a hot yoga studio. I like that they have wood floors...it makes me feel like they can keep it cleaner and it's easier to balance on. The reason why I knocked it to 4 stars is because it is simply unaffordable. I have a fairly good job, but I don't think I could afford to keep going. If this place was reasonably priced, it would definitely get 5 stars from me. read more

I have done a lot of "cold" yoga in my day and purchased this groupon before I realized I was buying "hot" yoga. I decided to give it a try, anyway. Even though I have yoga experience, I consider myself a beginner because it has been a while since I have done any yoga. The staff at the studio was extremely helpful. The instructor asked if I was new and proceeded to give me a lot of information about what to expect in the class. I ended up taking the "flow" class as my first experience, rather than the Sumit class mainly due to the time it was offered. The flow is different in that it is heat only with no humidity and it is only 1 hour instead of 1 hr 20 min. The poses in the class were very advanced, however, the instructor does encourage you to take as many breaks as you need and not to try the advanced positions until you are ready. I did pretty well keeping up but the heat did get to me about 45 minutes in. I guess you just have to get used to it. The staff was great, the facility was great. I'm not sure if I like the hot yoga yet, but am going to give the Sumit class a go tonight and see how it compares to the Flow class. read more

I had a friend who was doing hot yoga and raved about how much she enjoyed it. When a groupon came along for ten sessions I couldn't resist. Yes it is hot. Not AZ hot but like steamy jungles of South America hot! In just a few sessions I could really see and feel that my body was changing. My groupon is used up, but I am still going to Sumits. What I appreciate is that you determine how hard you are working. The staff encourage you to listen to your body in determining how much or little you do during any one session. The staff also offers gentle corrections on posses so you don't injure yourself. Men and women attend the classes. Guys don't be intimidated thinking its a chick thing. There are lots of guys who attend. TIPS: Drink lots of water day of practice. A lot! You will be sweating like you never have before and it is very easy to get dehydrated. Don't eat anything for a least of couple of hours prior to the class. If you are not sure what kind of mat or towel to get, you can rent them at the front desk. They are good quality and very sanitary. Dress for comfort. Every part of you will be soaked thru with sweat. Think of that when determining what you are wearing. Many of the ladies will wear Yoga Capris and a long sports tank. Wearing a tee-shirt was too distracting to me as it would bunch up and stick. read more

A religious experience! I love Bikram Yoga, but was getting fed up with the rigid aspects of it. I LOVED the elements of Bikram mixed with vinyasa! I appreciate how the teachers never force anything, but they all have the ability to motivate me to kick ass when things get extra hard, off balance and sweaty. I took a long break from yoga and finally decided to try it out again when I found a deal through Groupon. When I first walked in, the girl at the desk was pleasant and there were no issues redeeming my pass. I have only been to this location twice now but I really like it! I talked to the instructor after the class today and he was very encouraging. Both times the studio has been clean. If you are interested in giving hot yoga a try, I would recommend this location! Before moving to AZ last Dec, I practiced Bikram yoga in LA and loved it! I had never heard of Sumits yoga until moving here. I decided to give it a try and I'm really glad I did. It's a great workout and I like that it incorporates power flow in between postures. The fast pace and music really get me pumped up during the session. The studio itself is very clean/modern and the staff are always very friendly. Now for which hot yoga style I prefer between Bikram and Sumits - I like both! They are very different from each other, but both a great workout and a great way to flush all the toxins out of your body. This is one workout I actually look forward to going to. :) read more

Just signed up for 2 week option. Went to my first "hot yoga" class today at Sumits. I use to do regular yoga at Lifetime. I really never felt I was getting any benefits (weight loss, muscle tone etc...) from regular yoga. During this "hot yoga" workout I was really sweating! I hope that means I was getting a good workout. Anyways....I did enjoy it. The 80 minutes flew by! About the facility. The staff were amazing. I called to inquire about pricing and an office assistant told me to call back in fifteen minutes to speak with Jennifer, the owner. I called back, she answered the phone, stated her name, and then mid way through my first sentence she cuts me off and says she has to go teach a class in five minutes, and then hangs up. I understand she had to teach a class, but she did not have to be extremely rude. Because I had her on speaker phone, everyone in the room was left speechless by her curtness. I've been going on and off every years to Sumits as it is close from home and easy to get to. This time after a Groupon I booked a 25 classes on sale that I can spread across one year making it more flexible for me (pun intended). I really like the teachers so far and the attendees are very nice. I always try to go nearby a door in order to get some fresh air once in a while to keep up with the heat. I've done the 80 minutes classes and the 60 minutes and I believe I like better the 60 minutes as the 80 minutes is way more challenging. Too bad that they have only one class on Wednesday morning but I guess going once a week is enough for me, at least for now. Hot yoga really brings up my endurance for running. I started to run last year in October with the Physix crew and started slow and easy with 3 miles, then, 4, 6, 7 and now 12, just about ready for my semi marathon coming soon. Basically, working out in a hot environment it is like running at high altitude, you get sensibly the same boost. They have a few other classes that I have tried like the flow. The difference is that you are holding an Asana for much longer than hot yoga in a regular temperature room (it's not hot). As the attendees are less, you can easily interact with the instructor in order to rectify your position if not done properly. All in all this is a workout that I have included in my regular workout routine and it seems to pay off by itself. Of course, your mileage may vary. Namaste! read more

Tried Sumit's Yoga during the temporary Bikram Tempe, AZ closure. Sumit's is a very challenging work-out. Anyone that says Yoga isn't a work-out probably has never done mid-level to advanced Vinyasa let alone Hatha Yoga. The teachers are friendly and the studio is extremely well kept. I did enjoy the classes, however I found it just wasn't for me. One key difference I found between Bikram and Sumit is that Bikram is more meditative. Bikram moves a bit slower with savasanas (sp?) during the floor series. There's also a lot of emphasis on breathing exercises. Sumit classes lean more on the work-out aspect, with push-ups and sit-ups and Vinyasas. These are pluses if you are looking just for a work-out. But for myself, where I enjoy mixing things up with resistance and cardio type exercises, the meditative aspects of Bikram are a big reason I go. Don't get me wrong, Bikram is a very challenging work-out - I'm struggling through the entire class, however in Bikram I feel like I'm truly getting away from stresses in life for 90 min. Whereas Sumit's I feel there's an element of just figuring out how to keep up and what to do next - and that's a stress in itself. read more

Never say never, I was completely against hot yoga, the thought of being in a stinky sweaty room with other peoples body heat was the last thing on my mind. But right before my Birthday last year I decided to try new things and I am so glad I did. Not only did I like it, I loved it. First, it is great workout, second I feel like I had a massage after the class. Third, staff great especially Serena, I highly suggest taking her class, she is motivational, plays great tunes and will make you smile. This was my first experience was HOT yoga and I LOVED it. You should know that I hate saunas - longest time in a sauna ever was about 30 seconds. But I love a good masochistic workout, so I really wanted to try this. First of all, about the facility. I have done yoga in many studios and love my classes at the YMCA in Ahwatukee. This yoga studio is so so beautiful! The space is open, inviting, relaxing, and extremely clean. The hot room has ceiling fans, and when it gets too warm, the instructor opens the doors to let cool air in. Even with all the bodies in the room, there was NO stinkiness!! This was always my biggest fear about hot yoga. I wore capri yoga pants and a yoga top. I brought a full length towel, huge bottle of water and a yoga mat. The instructor placed me close to the door in case I needed to cool down. The class pace was perfect - flowing from one pose to the next. There was wonderful non-new-agemusic playing on a great sound system the whole time. The posture instructions were clear and easy to follow, however, I think it would be difficult for a beginner. It could be that the instructor knew there were no beginners, and therefore, didn't go slow. I had to stop three times towards the end of the class. I was too hot and my heart was beating too fast. After a three minute break (still in the room) and some water, I could finish with the class. My mat, clothes and towel were completely wet - I'm not talking damp - I mean WET. I highly recommend bringing an extra change of clothes for after class and wearing as little clothing as respectably possible in the class! The class costs $16 for an individual session, or $20 for two classes (two weeks in a row). They have a ton of different class purchase plans available with varying discount levels, depending on how many sessions you purchase. This is an authentic studio. I felt so welcomed as soon as I walked in. I told them this was my first time doing hot yoga, they discounted my mat rental and the instructor set me up with the best spot in the studio (next to the door) lol. The class was such a challenge but I was gently encouraged and so glad I did it. I will definitely be back. read more
