I have run this race several times (I believe at least twice, but I have lost track; my lifetime…read morerace count since taking up running in 2014 is north of 250 at this point). I would run it again. It has a big bonus for anyone who wants to be awed: you end up inside the stadium, and they allow you to lounge around on the outfield. Even if you are not a baseball fan, that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience (well, more than once if you sign up, but you get the gist of it). It has an oddity of organization: they announce the date very late, so you cannot plan. I cannot figure out why that is, since it is professionally run. In addition to the medal, you get a bobblehead. (You can pay extra for the bib to be mailed; I always look for that, because my time is worth it to me, avoiding a needless trip to the Expo.) The other aspect of the race that should be mentioned is how flat the course is. It is an out and back along the Embarcadero, not too far from the Ferry Building (to the southeast of there), along Fisherman's Wharf, to the far side of Crissy Field. For the Bay Area, it has to be among the races with the least vertical gain. The field also has participants of enough different speeds, you won't feel as if you're doing terribly. There is a three hour time limit, so if you a pure walker (versus a run walker), you might need to speed up a bit. I am at the back of the pack myself, so I pass no judgment. (I've been finishing the race slower than 2:45, and it's fine.) PS I looked it up on Athlinks. I have run it three times. In doing that, I saw something I had not expected. The field has been shrinking. It was 3500 plus the first time, and 1200 the last time. That is a considerable change.

I was one of them shy and chicken type person that was afraid of doing it!!! And a lot of former co workers and also my brother has done it before!!! And most of my co workers had said to me, William you should go and try it out and have don't worry about being afraid!!! A lot of Giants Race runners start out slow, and with a lot of encouragement from my co workers and family!!! As when the new year of January 1 2018 came around... Okay I have said to my myself my goal of 2018 was go and try doing the San Francisco Giants 5K Race!!! And on that day of July 4th 2018 the time has finally come to me... I signed up for my very very 1st time on the Giants Race website and the rest is history!!! And from there, I started training & preparing myself by running around Lake Merced and other places in San Francisco... So I had 2 months to get ready for 2018 San Francisco Giants 5K Race!!! As the month of July and August which went by quick and when the month of September 9th 2018 was here!!! My time and day has finally arrived to go and run the Giants 5k Race!!! When I got at to AT&T PARK I was amazed to see a lot people who had signed for the 5k Giants Race!!! When I lined up at the starting line with my brother who also ran with me at the 5k Giants Race... When the timer has finally started, I said yayyyyy I am finally here and doing it!!! In the beginning, I started out slow with a normal pace and then started jogging little by little and some running by not over doing it towards the Embarcadero Ferry Building... From there it was a turn around and back to the Finish Line inside of the AT&T PARK BASEBALL FIELD!!! As I started running back towards the Finish Line inside of the Baseball Field I have said WHAT HUNTER PENCE WOULD HAVE SAID YES YES YES!!! Now that I have finally conquered my fears by not being afraid and I can now say I DID IT I DID IT I DID IT!!! This club is a nonprofit organization that hosts runs every fourth Sunday of the month. The runs consist of 5K (1 lap), 10K (2 laps) and 15K (3 laps) races around Lake Merritt. The fee is $3 for Club members, and $5 for non-members. The course distance is certified and the course is flat. All runners receive finisher ribbons. Place ribbons are awarded three deep.

I only trained for two months which was basically running and core work outs, I recommend to train if you plan on entering the race. Men's Health Urbanathlon is a 11.2 mile race with 10 marine core obstacles. The race starts off across the street from AT&T park through the Embarcadero to Coit tower then onto the piers which lead into the marina by the entrance of Crissy fields. The turn about starts from Crissy fields all the way back to the ball park. You are probably all wondering what was the hardest course: For me: 1. 1 mile of running up to Coit tower-left me winded, I am a runner but damn them hills are killer. For those of you who don't know, Coit tower is the highest point in SF. 2. Marine hurdles- I am 5'1 and the walls were pretty high. First of all you if you can't hop over the wall you get thrown into the penalty box oh and you cannot have anyone help you. Plus there is a man yelling at everyone to hurry up and hawking you. This is were the core exercises helped me, to lift my own body up. 3. Holding a tire on the balance beam. I've stopped crossfit for a while, and heavy weights so balancing that out and not falling is challenging, especially with other people on the beam. 4. AT&T park, that was already mile 9? my calves were on fire!! So running up and down the park is a killer but hey I sucked it up. As for the rest of the courses, I want to say it was cake only because I trained. If you look at the videos of the bus and taxi obstacle-you have to climb over it, btw-that was easy for me!! Definitely crossed off my bucket list. I finished strong even then I got a beat down. Literally my legs are bruised and every inch of my body is sore. It was totally worth it. If you are interested in challenging yourself, I would like to say Men's Urbanathlon is the one race, you won't regret. #BEAST

Running to Coit tower, along embarcadero and to Fort Mason then along back embarcadero with marine hurdles, police barricades along the way. Here is the breakdown of how it went down: 1st obstacle: Police Barricades/Jersey Barricades 2nd obstacle: Black & Yellow Poles/Fence Crawl 3rd obstacle: Coit Tower Climb 4th obstacle: Fiat Marine Hurdles & Balance Beam/Tire Carry 5th obstacle: Over Under Through 6th obstacle: Tires/Pallets 7th obstacle: Black & Yellow Poles/Camo Net Crawl 8th obstacle: AT&T Park Stair Climb 9th obstacle: Monkey Bars/Parallel Bars 10th obstacle: Finish Sequence (going over 4 taxi cabs, and going over a bus with a net that you have to climb over and down followed by a 8 foot wall you have to clear) The hill run to Coit tower was challenging. Many folks were winded and the hill run was long and steep. I've ran hills before and continue to so this part was not as hard as it was for others. I witnessed people vomiting on their way up the hill because it was difficult to do. The next obstacles weren't so hard but you did have to wait a little bit for your turn to come around. The Hurdles were pretty high and I'm 5'6" so if you're shorter than myself then you will have trouble. 20 burpee penalty for not doing any obstacles. Running back from Fort Mason was challenging. Most I've ever ran was 10 miles beforehand and my legs were starting to feel it. By the time I got to AT&T park my calves were feeling it. How many times can you run through AT&T park?! Especially if you're a HUGE GIANTS fan!!!! The stairs were a challenge because your legs are tired from all the running and it is a workout! I almost cramped up as I got to the parallel bars and I witnessed people collapse to the ground due to cramping. At the end I finished 2 hours and 9 minutes. Which I had accomplished my goal to do it under 2:30. Lots of goodies at the event at the end! Taking pictures and them giving out awards and samples and massages. It was a great day! I'm interested on doing the ones n New York and Chicago! It is a great experience! a true test to your cardio and fitness. CrossFit has definitely helped me and prepared me for this! The high tech shirt besides giving me the itch seems to facilitate growth of body bacteria and wearing it for 2 hours you stink like a pig. This was a great race. Very mellow, community-centric. Flat as could be…read more Out and back loop along a peaceful marsh trail, with water stations. This was my first 10k and I really enjoyed it. It didn't have the excited, zany vibe of a big race, but it also didn't have the added stress or difficult parking or the mile-long lines for the port-a-potty (there's a nice visitors' center with actual bathrooms). I would definitely do it again!

Beautiful course, well organized, enthusiastic volunteers, lots of great…read moresponsors (Sports Basement, Road Runner Sports, Bear Naked, Jamba Juice, Fluid, Clif, Larabars, & more), & tons of free snacks & drinks before & after. There were also free sports psychology & chiropractor consultations afterward (awesome - I got a soft tissue massage for my legs). Bonus - the race organizers make a strong effort to keep the event green by doing all registration online, limiting event flyers & using recycled paper for the ones they do make, running a shoe recycling program, sorting trash from recycling after the event, & offering participants a cool tech T-shirt from Greenlight Apparel made from 100% recycled materials instead of a cotton T-shirt. Also, instead of a lame finisher's medal, participants get a stainless steel water bottle (now that I can use!). This is the first race I've participated in where the results were posted at the race site within a few minutes of the event wrapping up. Age group awards (three deep in each gender/age group) were nicely framed certificates and handed out on the spot (no waiting 4-6 weeks for the mail). Tons of fun! There were a good amt of bathrooms/port-o-potties and not a huge crazy line prior to the race. The race course was well marked and there were plenty of volunteers to help guide you and provide water. The course itself was good - there was a huge hill in the middle and towards the end it looped you around some business parks which was a little weird. Most of it was along the water though and quite nice. Ankle timing chip thingie was great and the after race snacks were awesome - Hobee's blueberry coffee cake for everyone!!! I'd definitely run this race again.

However, it had a great views of Alcatraz island and the Golden and Bay bridges. Here's a tip: if you get hot chocolate at the bar on the boat, the difference between the large and the small is a $1.25 and they simply add more hot water to the large - they don't actually add more hot chocolate. So, kind of a rip.

Unfortunately, we had some bike problems at the start of the race and didn't get out of the gates until 9:35 AM. We knew we were in dead last. We rode our bikes over to the Ferry Building farmer's market and had to find objects that began with the letters in Oyster--orange, yellow lemon, star ruby grapefruit, tamil almond, extra virgin olive oil, and red pepper. After dropping off our bikes at the transition area, we had to go over to the Lyon Staircase and go through Lover's Lane and find letters on trees. We were completely out of breath at the top of the stairs. We ran along the path, occasionally into the woods, looking for letters around trees marked with pink string. One lady looked at me strangely as I ran into the woods to find my next letter. "Is there supposed to be something back there?" she asked. Finally, we unscrambled our word, which was "Bowling" and headed over to the Presidio bowling alley, where we had to bowl a strike or spare. It was odd bowling while all sweaty and somewhat out of breath. Finally, after heading back to the transition area, we had to find an ad in the SF Weekly, which then told us to go to the Ghirardelli Square pub, where we had to match four beers. We were very lucky to get it on our first try. We finished in a little under 3 hours, which was not bad, considering our late start. It was an awesome race, tons of fun, and they provided cliff bars, water, and burritos for us afterward. It was awesome checking in between legs, with people cheering and ringing some cow bell. Definitely check out the race if you enjoy adventure and running around. Having an iphone is a pretty big help.

Our first challenge was a long ride from the Persideo to South of Market where we got to identify herbs and then toss fish between team mates. For future racers, be warned...WATER IS INVOLVED. We cycled over to Pier 40 where 3 of our team had to use paddle boards to navigate a simple course. Not tough, but i'm not a big fan of deep water...and there weren't that many safety people on the water. Ok...I'm paranoid so there you go... The race is a mixture of running and cycling to different challenges. We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, ran down to the yacht club and then finally up to Alta Plaza park...the hill climb nearly killed me. For next year, I will: * Begin running well in advance of the race. 1 week before is not good. * Drink more water! My tips for future racers: * Dress in layers. People not used to SF weather were not happy. * Bring another outfit. Several people who ended up in the bay were soaked all day. *The event provides a transition area....bring some shade. * Turn it down a notch...we saw more than a few racers loose it. The prizes aren't so big that you need to kill people to win. Breathe. You're tossing fish...this is not the olympics. * This would be a good event for older, athletic, kids. I saw 1 or 2, it would be cool to see more. My kids would love this. Especially the challenge where we used a sling-shot to fire our shoes into the air. * Burritos at the end! They are awesome!

From a participant's standpoint, the 6th annual event was pretty well organized. It is a great…read moreevent for beginners. If you don't mind running around a lap 3 times, it's an event for you. The course is flat and easy that starts and ends in Downtown Pleasant Hill in front of Fleet Feet Sports. The upside of this type of course is that you can gauge how far along you are and how close you are to the finish. Unlike some 5K events, you only get 1 water stop; however, at this event, you get 3. Although it is the same one since you run the lap 3 times. The downside is that after your 2nd lap, it makes you want to give up since there are people who already finished. Also, you don't get goodies like you would from other events. In fact, you only get a T-Shirt. Bottled waters, watermelons and bananas are waiting for finishers at the finish line. They also start that Kids' Dash before the 5K, which I think it's pretty cool so little kids don't have to wait until 10:30am or so to start their races while the sun gets hotter. Lastly, the event is followed by the 4th of July Parade and Celebration. The event may not go all out as other bigger events, but it's definitely a great way to start of your Independence Day. [TIP] If you register late, you may be out of luck on T-Shirts in which you have to choose from what's left and you may not be able to get your size. I registered a week before the event and I had to wait until AFTER I finish to get my shirt and I ended up with a Medium (rather than my usual Small).

LOVE the parade, been going for last 5 years. 3 laps around the downtown area and you're done.
