This last time, we were offered blankets to either sit on or cover ourselves as the theatre was a little cool. What a nice surprise! We have never been disappointed by the productions. Talented actors, fun props (Mary Poppins was flying!) and a live orchestra tops it off!

Another play had moments of humor and deep sadness as the two leads navigated the difference between their dreams and their reality. And, last night, I attended a play based on air guitar competition -- which surprised me with the depth each character developed in between outrageous air guitar performances. Try it out! The new season begins in September -- and The California Theater on 7th Street offers a variety of comedy, musical and dance band options throughout the week when the plays are dark. It's amazing!

There was no bad spot in the space and the variety of dining room chairs as seating was fun. I love how it was described as an entertainment space with a bar and not the other way around. Looking at the calendar there is a lot of diversity in performances. We will be back and look forward to where they will land after November.

When entering the center, there are many attendants who are very helpful and guide you to where you need to go for your seats. The concessions are very reasonably priced and you can even purchase a reusable cup that you can bring to other events. The whole center is very well kept and clean. The bathrooms are also very clean. I really appreciate that everything was smooth from parking, seating and even leaving the event. I will definitely be back for future shows.

Once inside, we got a glass of the Sonoma County red blend and HenHouse hazy ipa from one of two concessions stands in the lobby, both beverages in theater cups that come with lids and are reusable for just $3 extra. Staff was friendly and helpful at the event, whether serving us drinks or helping us find our seats. The venue was plain looking both inside and outside. The seats in the auditorium (Ruth Finley Person Theater) were basic but not uncomfortable. And the view, even from the last row in the back on the lower level, was decent. Sound from the stage was fine, clear enough that I could hear every single word the comedian used to keep the crowd rolling with laughter, including myself of course. Good times!

Theater usually isn't my thing but I must admit I really did enjoy it. One of the requirements of said English class was that I attend performances at the Burbank Auditorium on the campus of Santa Rosa Junior College. I recall loving the building as it was large enough to host a major production yet intimate enough for those in attendance to enjoy the performance. Even today Burbank Auditorium still lives up to the hype as evidenced by checking out it's latest musical "In The Heights". The theater was packed with a fun filled crowd who were on their feet throughout.

"Into the Woods", my favorite musical was absolutely FABULOUS. We LOVED it. They always have great musicals and plays. But this one topped the charts. Give it 10 stars. The seats were awful. I guess the high school kids are very skinny. No width or leg room. Hard to get in and out and very worn down. You could feel the metal.Too many stairs with no rails. Older people had trouble. Fortunately, this is only a temporary venue. The auditorium itself was really nice. But the performance was incredible. It made up for the seats. From my years-ago first visit, to see their poetic, hypnotic, joyous, and sad adaptation of Lorca's Butterfly, through this year's Miracle Day, I love love love love love them. Do I always exactly understand/agree with every dramatic moment? No. Is there always a moment or two where I am thrilled, gobsmacked, and grateful beyond words for their courageous, committed, brilliantly inspired ensemble and individual work? HELL yes. If you like theatre. If you love theatre. If you love and long for community made by theatre, art made by theatre...if you've never really known why go to a local play, rather than a traveling spectacle, or rather than a movie...go check them out.
