Nice small theatre, no bad seats. Staff is amazing. I have attended with a group of seniors many times and staff are right there helping them to their seats, stowing away walkers until after the performance and then appearing right away after to help patrons leave. This last time, we were offered blankets to either sit on or cover ourselves as the theatre was a little cool. What a nice surprise! We have never been disappointed by the productions. I came here with friends and family as part of a Soroptimist event. It was the dress rehearsal night for Irving Berlin's White Christmas play. It's a bit of a small, cozy venue, but that made it also feel quite intimate with the cast. At some points they had actors walking/singing through the audience areas, and no seat was particularly far from the stage. Small lobby in the front, where the organization had refreshments and where the playhouse normally sells beverages and maybe food. Seating in the theater was comfortable, and my group really enjoyed the performance. I would highly recommend this as a place to see some live entertainment! read more

This is a very unassuming theater from the exterior. I honestly had no idea what to expect. From the outside it looks so small and it's in the middle of a residential area that is pretty run down, so when the doors opened we were pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful little theater, well oriented and maintained. It is small and intimate, but that adds to the experience. There isn't a bad seat in the house and the stage props and sets were fabulous. Get there early enough and you can easily park in the small private lot. Or else, park in the Railroad Plaza nearby and enjoy an easy 5 minute walk over, which is what we did. We saw Little Shop of Horrors and were blown away by the vocal and acting talent. It was so well performed that we can't wait to come banother performance. This is a gem! An amazing venue with a theater, art gallery, dance studio, and more! First time visiting was for an intimate rendition of "A Streetcar Named Desire" in the studio space. The cast were amazing, lighting and acoustic were appreciated from our back row (too of bleacher) seats, and the facilities were adequate. All in all, an intimate space to take in and be immersed in a great show! Update: Saw three other shows, including two on the theater side -- Revolutionists, To Kill A Mockingbird, and West Side Story. All were perfectly cast, amazingly performed, and very moving. Wow. La cage aux folles was amazing. What a great cast!!!! The leads were spectacular and the music was #tdf. Every actor delivers a performance that deserves to be on broadway. Who knew this little place on Santa Rosa can deliver such a high caliber performance. This is my first time here but we will definitely be back to see more shows. Apparently, it is local theater season for me! A friend who lives near Santa Rosa invited us to join her in seeing their annual run of Rocky Horror Show and we quickly RSVP'd yes and began coordinating costumes. After dinner nearby (there are lots of walkable options for pre- or post-theater drinks and/or food), we arrived at the theater and quickly found our way to the ticket booth. They also have a small bar with beer, wine, and snacks available. We were in the smallest theater and unless you pay a bit more for designated front row seats, it is first come, first serve. Our group ended up all split up, which was totally fine because 1) it wasn't like we were going to be chatting during the show anyway and 2) the other audience members were super nice. I happened to find myself next to the theater's photographer who filled me in on lots of fun facts about the theater, show, and cast. (If you do want to sit by the person you came with, be sure to get there early.) As for the show, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The cast was incredible talented, seasoned, and entertaining. As Parker S. already mentioned, be ready for an intimate theater experience... both in the size of the theater and the closeness of the actors. If we lived closer, I know we'd definitely be more frequent theater goers here! read more

We saw "Something Rotten" last night. Such a fun performance. Great singing and acting. I didn't know there would a good amount of dancing, which was well-done and made it even more enjoyable. Songs were catchy and the singing was all top-notch. Especially impressed by Lorenzo Alviso's (Nigel Bottom) vocals and his duet with Julianne Bretan (Portia) was heavenly. Such a fun place! I have gone to plays both inside and out in their out door theater. the plays are fun and professional. When you go to the out door theater you can bring your own chairs food and drinks it really is fun for the whole family and so enjoyable on a summer night. When it is winter they do plays in very small intimate theaters both were very enjoyable but different experiences. read more

Went and saw West Side Story yesterday and it was FANTASTIC! The woman who played Maria, Carmen Mitchell, was amazing. Her voice was phenomenal Tony, Jonah Robinson, also was fantastic. The other two who really stood out to me were Brett Millard as Riff. He was an all around good actor, dancer and singer. The other was Anita played by Denise Elia-Yen, who was also great. Nothing beats the original music and lyrics, of course, but it does have to have good casting to make it believable and this really fit the bill. Excellent show as usual. read more

Today I saw Fiddler on the Roof. The production was for my birthday and it blew me away! I was with my family. The music was awesome. I like 6 th st because it is small and every seat is good. Also with Covid considerations I greatly prefer smaller venues. The actor who played Tevye was phenomenal.and at the finish I was standing on my feet the complement the entire cast! read more

I guess would be impossible to judge a playhouse for its productions, cast and crew. I will focus on the theatre itself. It has nice homy quality to it and small yet clean lobby that is pleasurable to sit in, yet a little cramped. The building has old fashioned brick layers that assemble the exterior and interior. It works well witin the theatre itself. Besides all that, it is not located in an ideal spot. Sort of tucked away in he back lot of historic Santa Rosa. And the outside is not pretty. This review is for the Rocky Horror Picture Show here. This was my second time seeing Rocky Horror but my first time here, which made me happy to find a local show! And what a good time! Go! It's a small venue, very up close, intimate, with great talent! They have some snacks for sale, a couple beers to choose from and red & white wine, all which you can bring in to show. And not a bad seat in the house. If you know nothing about this show, forewarning it's hilariously inappropriate and sexual. I wouldn't recommend anyone under 18 to go. Not sure if there is an age requirement (which is somewhat surprising) but we did see an audience member that was quite uncomfortable with the show. With that said, I highly recommended checking it out! Great date night! Dress up and have fun! Applause to the actors for such a great show and good time! read more

We had such a lovely time at the Santaland Diaries! It was a well acted, and well projected one man show. We loved the audience participation, as this one man show mixed and distributed cocktails and snacks to the audience as the story progressed! My only draw back was that we did not get there early enough to buy cocktail buttons to receive Elf drinks during the show (15 buttons sell out fast, only $3). No worries though... There is beer, wine, and sweets to bring into the theater to enjoy. Go see this show, you will not be disappointed! It was a great, fun, Holiday treat! read more

Such great theater - locally! I've seen 8 or 9 shows here, most recently La Cages Aux Folles, and they have all been shockingly good. It's such a treasure to have right in town! We are lucky to have such a high quality local theater with reasonable local ticket prices. They do a big variety of shows but I do tend toward the musicals. None have disappointed! And not a bad seat in the house - seriously! It is pretty small and all the seats are good seats! read more

My review is for the Youth Classes at the playhouse. My daughter had spent a couple of years doing drama camp at the Santa Rosa Parks and Rec. She loved it so much I thought she might enjoy a "real" acting class. The class was run by an older woman that seemed to have little to no patience for small children. Watching the teacher constantly reprimand the students during the final performance was uncomfortable and put a damper on what should have been a fun event. My daughter has lost any interest in continuing acting classes and that saddens me. Hey 6th Street Playhouse how about you get some youthful staff that actually want to be there. read more

I went to see The Marvelous Wonderettes at the 6th Street Playhouse yesterday and had a wonderful time. My friend and I got there early so we were able to get a terrific parking spot. We met up with some other wonderful ladies who had our tickets. All the seats in the theater were great...it was stadium seating so you didn't have to worry about looking around someone's head to see the stage. The only thing I didn't like about the place was the fact the rows and the seats were a little narrow. I deducted a star for that. Otherwise, I thought the sound and lighting quality was wonderful...truly a magnificent performance! Local theater has really improved over the years and it's great to see shows being brought to the area that others might not get to see when they are only being shown in the larger cities. Take a moment to check out their website because they also offer adult and youth educational classes. I commend the 6th Street Playhouse for their performances, productions and the opportunities that they provide the community to participate in the arts. read more

A great, funky, local playhouse featuring very good local talent. We've seen a number of productions here, most recently "The Full Monty" and the "Rocky Horror Show". Both were very well done with very good acting, good music, and very good sets. They have two different theaters, the main stage is a traditional theater setup and the other is more a theater in the round type with seating on 3 sides and the stage in the middle. Yes, the audio levels could have been better balanced, especially in the Rocky Horror. Sometimes the music drowned out the lyrics. It was especially hard to make out Eddie's lyrics in "What ever happened to Saturday night". Fortunately, I have that whole show memorized :-) read more

Great venue in Santa Rosa to see a production. Saw "Santaland Diaries" and it was great. The Studio Theatre is an intimate space, not a bad seat in the house. Comfortable chairs too! David Yen's performance was animated and well-acted. He engaged the audience throughout the performance. The concessions were good - beer, wine, tasty treats. Oh! As part of the performance, the Elf had a bar on stage and he made cocktails!! Buy a button and receive a fresh cocktail. Or if you are lucky, just receive a cocktail courtesy of the Elf himself. 6th street youth education program is fantastic. Shari and Trevor did a wonderful job getting the kids ready for a four night production...after that production my son auditioned and was cast in the current production of A Christmas Story. The summer education program prepared him for this professional production. As an attendee of shows at 6th street, the main theater is comfortable and a very nice space to watch a show. I recently had to drive all the way to Santa Rosa to see my girlfriend's co-worker perform in community theater. Yes, you read that correctly, drive from the Bay proper all the way to Santa Rosa, for community theater. "Community Theater" inspires memories of terrible field trips to see "To Kill a Mockingbird" at the age of 14. Then I saw "Rocky Horror Show" at this place, and was BLOWN AWAY. Freaking amazing. The venue, the venue may be small, but they make the most of it. They sell snacks, beer and wine, and use the space in the actual theater effectively. The production quality was also great. The real gem however, is the talented group of people that apparently live near Santa Rosa. Reading the program, the resumes were beyond impressive, and it showed in the show. Well done 6th Street. If you live in the area, or simply theater, or perhaps are looking to expand your interests without paying $100 a ticket for a show in SF, this is the place to be. read more
