Came in with lots of questions about electric assist bikes, Danial (an employee) was super helpful and expertly fielded all my questions. This location rents bikes as well as lets you try bikes out before you buy one so you can get a feel for what works for you. I felt like the had a pretty good selection of road, mountain, cruiser, and electric bikes. They fixed a complicated and unusual bike I had, which required them to find a unique part. They really know what they are doing on bikes that other places can't handle. Purchased our son's bike here last year for around $600- wanted to upgrade to a large because he grew so much over the summer. We imagined they would want to keep us as customers, but after they only offered us $60 for his old bike we left feeling really disappointed. I've been to the Palo Alto one a few times over the past year and change, the first few times to buy some consumables and gear. And most recently, to get a stuck (for me at least) bottom bracket removed on a beloved vintage frame. We have never shop here before, but we would still like to give the shop a 5-star rating for the kindness of the people working there. I was waiting on one kid's music lesson while the other needs to use the bathroom really really really bath. We walked up and down California St. to find a place we could ask to use their bathroom. All the restaurants are too busy or "bathroom for customers only", so we stopped by Summit Bike out of desperation. We did not think they have a bathroom for client much less letting a random passerby using it. But surprisingly the older gentleman who greeted us graciously said yes without any hesitation!!! Both I and my teenager was so surprised! They don't know how grateful we are. She is a very shy kid so asking such thing was a big deal for her. Imagine her relief! read more

The bike mechanics are excellent here. Marcus regularly checks my FX 4 Trek bike. He has also put in new inner tubes, raise the handlebars, and made some other adjustments. All the people who work here are extremely helpful and have helped me buy the best helmet, lock, light, etc. I just started buying the fast energy liquids for riding, which seems to help with energy uphill. The personnel here really know the ins and outs of what is best suited for you and your bike needs from serious off trail riders to bicycle commuters. I have an old Trek Mountain Bike with cable brakes and derailleurs. Sometimes I try a minor adjustment and realize that it's a black art. Our order experience lacked professional phone support, communication, and delivery follow-up. We purchased the bikes and requested delivery anytime after 4-5 days since we were out of town. We didn't receive any shipping information and called to see if the bikes would arrive by Memorial Weekend (10 days after purchase). We were given three different shipping dates. Although we were not in a rush, we needed to know if we needed to stay in town to sign for the delivery. The online number never answered, and when we called a physical store for information, one employee hung up on us. Eventually, we received a label update from UPS, and the bikes shipped 4 days later. We called again as we planned to leave town after the holiday. Please communicate if delivery dates changes. Train your staff to answer questions or pass the phone to someone who can. We never heard back from a manager despite emails and calls. Overall, I would never recommend any friend to buy online. read more

Very very happy with my purchase. Of course, it's difficult to be unhappy when you get a 10% discount stacked on top of an additional $300 off. So the price (that I paid), absolutely cannot be beat. You likely won't get such a steep discount, though. So perhaps you'd be more interested in the service instead. I came in on a Saturday afternoon with my father, looking for a bike that he could ride around our white picket fenced suburban neighborhood. But we didn't just come. We came with questions. A lot of them. What's the difference between disk brakes and diskless brakes? We want an FX1, but we'd also be happy with a Verve 1. Can you tell us the pros and cons of each? Why is there a little sticker that says "bluetooth" on the online picture? The cashier was incredibly patient and kind, even though some of our questions were probably easily google-able. He took out at least 3 or 4 bikes for us to try out before we finally settled on this white Verve 1 Disc Low Step. It was the perfect bike for us. Because of the low step, both my mom and my dad would be able to ride it. And it's my mom's favorite color. Thanks for helping us pick it out! read more

I just brought home a Trek FX 2 Disk Stagger Gen 3 from Summit Bicycles in Palo Alto. Alain was great. He lifted multiple bikes off of an upper rack for me to try out. He let me ride each one. Alain wanted to make sure that I was getting the bike that felt just right to me. He was so knowledgeable, patient and friendly. I bought it around 4:30 pm on a Monday. I had some things I wanted added to the bike and I wanted different tires. Alain told me the bike would be ready the next day, Tuesday, in the afternoon. I told him the traffic would be terrible in the afternoon and that Wednesday morning would be fine with me. He surprised me and got the bike ready for pickup on Tuesday at 11:30 am. I've been going to Summit Bikes in Santa Clara for maintenance for a while now; they are Trek dealers, and I like to support local bike shops. But when I decided to buy an electric bike, I was directed to their Palo Alto store to do a test ride. I fell in love with the Trek Domane +. My acoustic bike is an eleven year old Domane as well, and it has been wonderful, so I have a lot of trust with the brand. But what has been an added bonus to getting a great electric bike is making a connection with a great bike shop. I really can't say enough good things about the manager at the Palo Alto Summit, Nick Wells. The bike I bought is a high end machine. I really wanted to customize it, and all the accessories, and I had an option to even choose my paint. It took a loooooong time to figure out what I wanted. Nick was very patient, helpful, and knowledgeable, and he helped me design a bike that I am in love with. And even after the sale, he has been answering questions and giving me input about how to best use the bike. I recommend this bike shop highly, and will be bringing the bike in for upkeep as needed. And if you go there, say hello to Nick for me! Personallly, I am looking forward to getting to know the other people who work there as well. read more

Customer service was so-so here on two recent occasions. They just seemed so uninterested. We came in today for a child bike seat (I had called ahead and verified they had it and I could try it). They did have it and grabbed it for me right away. I wanted to put it on my bike to see if it fit (a 2 min clamp on) but they wouldn't let me, and said only they could do the install. And they would have to charge me for labor, set up an account etc. Seemed silly for a quick fit test, but it looked like the seat would fit, so we went ahead and bought the seat and agreed. Then they said they would have it ready by the end of the day. We took it home and put it on the bike, took two minutes. I could have bought this seat on Amazon, but wanted to support a local business. Not sure I would do that again. Bought my sons bike from Summit and it had front brake issues (which turned out to be nothing, just a loose wire). When i called, a Friendly voice on the phone was welcoming and told me to bring my sons bike in any time. I got there and Galin (sorry if i spelt that wrong) helped us out. Galin was kind, professional and very easy going. He fixed the wire issue immediately and then offered to check out the bike for other issues as well. I would give 0 stars if I could. Bad service, very rude managers, misleading, with no integrity. I wanted to try out a new bike, but the sales person mentioned trying out is not allowed due to covid, but they're "very" linient with returns as a result of that. After I bought the bike, and tried it around the block couple times and didn't like, they wouldn't take it back without "restocking" fees to "renew the paint work". Sales person at the store mentioned 5%, and when I refused he offered that I talk to a manager the next day. Then manager said actually 10%, or else the bike is yours anyways!! read more

Ok so I bought a fairly high end carbon fiber bike here. They have the free tune up option, and I tried to take advantage of it. I got my bike back after a tune up and it was kind of messed up - wasn't shifting rightz. I took it to REI. They brought me back to the bike and showed me that the new chain I had purchased had been installed backwards and my rear derailleur had been bent. I'm gonna just call it incompetent and never take my bike back there, but should be a warning to y'all. read more

They say sure, come on in. 1/2 hour later I was there watching them change my chain ring and showing me how (quite easy if you have the right tool). Great service.
