Dustin understands anxiety well and knows how to help you methodically address it and challenge yourself, but at completely manageable levels to help you mitigate overwhelm or depression. Dustin is also very understanding and accepting--no need to censor yourself no matter who you are or how you live your life--and has a great sense of humor but can read the room :) and doesn't make light of your heavier, more difficult moments. He's supportive, encouraging, knows how to help you get results, and I would recommend him to anyone.

I am…read morescheduling appointments with a few different therapists to find the right one, and I scheduled an appointment with Lisa Croudy. I also wanted to schedule an appointment with Sara White, who is also at Creative Life Counseling. I didn't hear back from them for a few days, so I called and left a brief message asking them to please return my call. The receptionist called me back and proceeded to tell me that I could not make an appointment with two people at their practice because they would be "competing for my business." In my opinion therapists shouldn't treat patients as customers, they should treat them as people they genuinely want to help. They shouldn't compete for a patient, they should do what they think is best for the patient even when what's best for them is going to a different therapist. I continued to ask the receptionist questions about this because I found this odd, and then all of a sudden the receptionist became abrasive, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. She cancelled the appointment I had with Lisa Croudy, told me to go somewhere else for my therapy, and hung up on me. I am utterly and completely appalled and disgusted with the receptionist's behavior. To speak to someone seeking mental health counseling like that is incredibly dangerous. And furthermore, how do you expect to gain new clients when you have someone like that taking your appointments? If you're so concerned with getting "business," that is the completely opposite way to go about it. I am thoroughly disgusted with this practice. I do not recommend anyone even attempt to seek counseling from them if this is the kind of "business" they run. I come from the mindset that one should never treat someone with that much disrespect, especially when they are reaching out for help.

It's only temporary, but I received more help in that day, during any other inpatient services. They gave me help to figure out what's wrong, gave me tons of resources, and were warm and caring. You talk to a social worker, psychologist, and doctor. This service is a safe place for those feeling suicidal and mentally unsound. I think there are 15 beds, but there were 5 people total while I was there. It's completely free. I'm truly grateful for this experience, and appreciate the staff. Thank you, team.

The day before my…read moreappointment, their receptionist, Carol, informed me that my appointment had been cancelled because I had forgotten to sign a couple of forms on their website. I told her that I had just signed them, but she said I was 20 minutes too late and that she had given my appointment to someone else. Whaaat?? These were forms that could have taken me two minutes to sign in their office the next day. As I tried reasoning with her, she became very rude and condescending. She insisted that I had broken a "hard and fast rule" and that the only thing I could do is reschedule the appointment. Wow, no thanks. I waited 3 months for nothing, but I'm kind of glad I didn't end up going. I already have terrible anxiety--I don't need to pay a therapist's office to make it worse. ***Side note: I don't know if any of the doctors or decision makers at the clinic will ever read this, but you need to know how your front office is treating people. They are an extension of you, and they need to consider the types of patients they're dealing with. If people are too depressed to deal with life, maybe showing them some compassion would be helpful?

It turns out it was a mistake with my insurance company and referral process. I was seeing them for 6 months before they told me I was not in there network or panel or contract. They said they send out statements monthly about a bill. I never got one for the whole 6 months or else I would of stopped going there due to them not being in my insurance contract panel. One day I just noticed a large amount of money missing from my bank account because they use an auto pay system yet they don't tell you how much that is. Not impressed with there professional being or there ability to be respectful and patient with clients who have billing questions.

This place so far has been the best. Three months again when my son arrived - he hated me, yelled…read moreand cussed, set things on fire, and would answer any calls. It was rough. Three months later at family week we are able to talk, sit on the same sofa, and he's apologized for all that happened and will express love. The family support groups are very supportive. You don't feel like you're all alone or that your child is the only one. The staff on the therapy side have been very communicative and supportive in putting in place plans to advance. The kids even enjoy just about all of the staff when they are being honest. I've seen kids go from being alone and unable to communicate to being able to communicate and hold themselves accountable. They also have a school program the kids are enrolled into so they do not miss any school. This also helps parents work with the school to get this type of treatment paid for when insurance will not. The one thing I wish was better was communication with the medical professionals. We have been trying to get to speak to the doctor about changes in his medication and it's been impossible even with the therapist seeing them a message each week during the weekly session. Overall we have been down this road before but this time it seems like he's actually getting skills and progress that will last.

I am 37 and have a beautiful daughter, I'm happily married, and I have a well paying job that I'm…read morepassionate about. While there were aspects of my time at Youth Care that were useful for me, my overall experience was horrid. In February Of 2001 my parents where at their wits end and talked to an educational consultant who recommended this facility. I was skipping school, running away, and in and out of psychiatric hospitals. My parents hired a bounty hunter company to surprise me in the middle of the night in my bedroom while I was sleeping, handcuff me, and put me on an airplane headed to Utah. This was a direct recommendation of the Youth Care facility. I was at this facility for 2.5 years. The treatment team "didn't feel comfortable" graduating me. In the summer of 2003 the treatment team told my parents "there was nothing more they could do for me." Three months later, my parents finally pulled me out. I developed a very hopeless and pessimistic attitude towards my future and my life while in this place. Phone calls were monitored and staff would hang the phone up for me if I wanted to talk to my parents about anything negative having to do with Youth Care. I roomed with skinheads, violent kids, and other troubled youth. One of my most vivid memories was a scandal involving one of my friends and a staff member who made my friend walk naked in front of him at least a couple times. In addition, there were two different instances I was made aware of where 2 separate adult male staff members groomed and sexually pursued a 14-year-old female patient, and in another case of 16-year-old female patient. In both of these cases, the staff members were fired when the scandals were brought to light, but no legal action was ever pursued against these offenders. It seemed to me at the time, and still seems to me that Youth Care didn't want that sort of publicity. I believe that they tried to keep it hush-hush as the police where never involved/called but the kids affected (my peers) had to meet at least once with lawyers representing Youth Care privately. I developed unhealthy eating habits which turned into an eating disorder that I still have to this day, and a life long resentment for my family for sending me to such a awful place. I do not recommend this place to anyone. I have gone through years of family counseling with my parents to get to a point where we can communicate effectively and lovingly again. When someone asks me how my high school experience was, I don't have much to say, because I felt like I was in juvenile prison, as my experience at Youth Care was very similar to that. Lastly, I would like to point out as I am looking through these reviews that it is apparent to me that most of the positive reviews of Youth Care are paid promotion. That's right, you can pay a PR company to leave positive reviews for your company to offset the many negative reviews from actual patients. -David
