Worst experience ever. I went to Dr Hau first for a lumbar epidural and experienced the worse pain ever. Excruciating pain with no relief afterwards at all. A year later I decided to try Dr Hau again for a back ablation. What was I thinking? If I thought that eipurdal was painful, let me tell you, it was nothing like the back ablation. I was screaming during the procedure and had much worse back pain after that than before. Never again. I swore I would never do that again. However, in Jan 2026 I switched over to Kaiser Permanente and decided to see their Spine Specialist who also suggested a lumbar epidural. I was scared to death but he assured me it wasn't bad so I decided to go for it. Well .............. I had that epidural done yesterday and the pain was nothing more than a mild bee sting and it only lasted a few seconds. That was just the numbing agent. When he injected the cortisone, I didn't feel a thing. I left that office feeling like a Happy Camper and pretty much pain free. Day 1, my pain level is about a level 1 but the doctor said it would take a few days for the cortisone to truly take effect so I'm looking forward to more happy days. =) A lady in the Waiting Room told me her epidurals through Dr Vidaurri (Kaiser) lasted 10-14 months. For me, that would be Heaven Scent. My diagnosis: spinal stenosis, sciatica and a cyst on my spine. I am 75 yrs ago. If I could've given Dr Hau zero stars, I would have. I'm done with this office. Yesterday an older patient was voice texting & making long phone calls in the waiting room where there's no phone calls allowed. I repeatedly asked her to go outside or to stop & she repeatedly refused. When I brought it to the office's attention, instead of saying something to her they brought me back. The MA said someone else had complained as well. This older patient should know better & that's exactly what I told her as she continued to act entitled. Every time I have an appointment, the MA who brings me back & NP are on the same page but when I go to check out, this scheduling MA is always confused on what we're doing & is always on a different page than the MA who brought me into the appointment & the different than the NP I saw. The scheduling MA is also super fucking rude & bitchy. Not sure why she works there if she's miserable. This whole confusion thing happened again yesterday. It happens at every appointment & is super nerve racking for me. The scheduling MA has also violated my HIPPA privacy rights multiple times while checking out of my appointments & scheduling. The scheduling MA also doesn't say who she's scheduling you with & I always have to ask who my appointments are with. Again more confusion, I'm having dental work done, a crown & filling, so I had to cancel my right sub occipital nerve block & TMJ trigger point injections. On their paperwork it states "dental cleaning or oral surgery" so they should probably update that & make it more specific. I will not be re scheduling with this office. read more

I was referred to this place because I was having pretty severe neck pain and headaches for over four months straight. I was prescribed epidural steroid injections in my neck. My appointment was at 10:15. I arrived five minutes early and was kept waiting until 11:45. No one explained the delay. When Doctor Yang finally showed up he was impersonal, showed absolutely ZERO interest in anything I had to say, but instead acted irritated that I had any questions. It was clear to me that this place is just a revenue factory. There were probably 4-5 other suckers sitting in the same kind of curtained-off areas waiting for treatment. I was finally wheeled-in to get the actual shot. Nobody bothered to explain to me what I was about to experience. The shot was EXTREMELY painful. Even though it had to be obvious I was in agony, no one bothered to say anything reassuring, but instead they acted like I was the only person who had ever experienced any pain with the procedure. Then I was supposed to have a follow-up Zoom call two weeks later (since I live over two hours' drive from the facility), but I received an automated reminder that I was due IN PERSON in the office for my follow-up visit the next day. When I called to try to explain that it was supposed to be a Zoom call the person answering was EXTREMELY rude and inconsiderate. He kept interrupting me and repeating himself over and over that I was due in person that day. In summary, be advised that his place is a revenue mill. They only care about cranking through as many "victims" as they can per day and couldn't care less about the individual. They have absolutely NO empathy and an abysmal bedside manner. read more

Horrible experience here! My pain management doctor in my rural area sent me here thinking they could provide more services so I traveled over an hour and a half to see them. The doctor there told me there was nothing he could do for me and referred me back to the doctor I had originally came from. Yet they still submitted my urine screen for drug testing even though they were never going to prescribe me anything, do any sort of procedure or even try to help me in any way. I received the tox bill and asked why I was charged to which they apologized and had me send a copy of the bill to their info dept who never replied. I received a 2nd bill and called again and was told there is nothing they can do as they have a 3rd party billing company, but the bill sure states all their information and they failed to mention that the first time I called. I said I'd like to make a complaint and they told me to go to their Yelp page so here I am...still in pain and exhausted from their run around. Save yourself the grief and don't go there. read more

If I could give the Summit Pain Alliance (SPA) patient screening process a negative five-star review, I would. SPA's screening process for NEW patient review and acceptance is one so time protracted and humiliating, in a sense that they are so scrutinizing about accepting pain patients, and delayed in their response of review of patient medical records, that I feel compelled to prepare/warn other pain patients about what they may encounter upon a getting doctor's referral to SPA. Your journey with SPA will be a long one with no guarantee to be seen. At the five weeks mark I gave up when, weeks prior, after I submitted my Kaiser doctor's referral (on letterhead), the doctor's referral was rejected for no good reason, along with my medical records, due to what they told me, that the doctors at SPA do not treat neuralgias. To which I told them that I also have multiple diagnoses of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, which is chronic pain. I'm completely puzzled by their discriminating screen criteria. I'm a cash paying patient. SPA's first time visit with a doctor for cash paying patients is $325- $350. Humiliating is that I'm a lowly patient auditioning for a paid visit with a doctor. I have legitimacy of chronic pain, which is well documented, and SPA doctors are putting me through hoops to audition for them to see me. Franky, I thought Kaiser was onerous! However, Summit Pain Alliance, a privately owned practice, it is much worse at navigating their system than anything I've experienced with Kaiser. I did everything that SPA asked me to do, and yet they failed at seeing the whole picture, nor are anyone of their staff equipped with the details of "why" I was turned down and what to do to remedy. Lastly, bear in mind that I was "sweetness and light" in my cooperating behavior with SPA and not negative as I am here, until today at my last communication with them. I've heard that the Doctor is great, but unfortunately his office staff is completely incompetent. I have been trying to get an injection in my lowers back for the pain I am suffering. I asked the staff if I needed to get a CAT scan prior to coming in, or if the x-rays I had would be sufficient to which she stated, "yes, the x-rays are enough". I went in, they collected my co-pay just to have the doctor tell me they needed a CAT scan for him to give me the injections. I am making a new posting because my previous postings photos were removed that had my original full review. Believe all the negative reviews you see of this place; If you don't it's on you! The good first: The three doctors I met over the dozen visits I had with this place were nice. Ok thats it for the good The bad: The epidurals I got we not effective. The most effective one was abut a week. This place has high turn over on doctors. The support staff are awful and incompetent. I agree with all the other low reviews. When checking out the staff ignores you and makes you stand there till they are done talking about the latest sports event or who they talked to on the phone with there personal life. This place definitely cares about your money more than you. The last straw was I had a doctors visit after lunch. The front desk lady was late from coming back from lunch and I sat waiting for her to unlock the door. I believe she unlocked the door 10 min past. I was sitting in my truck in-front of the door. Someone else pulled up so I got out of my truck to make sure I was first in line. When the woman unlocked the door I realized it was a stiff slow moving old man with a walker thing. I decided to hold the door open for him. Since it wouldn't be easy for him to scoot his walker and open the door at the same time. We went back and forth with who was to be first to go and I let him go first. Unfortunately he was as slow to check in as he was to check in. It was my turn to check in and the lady just walked away from the window. She didn't say I will be right with you or anything... She comes back 5 min later and asks me my name with a short attitude. I give her my information and she tells me that I missed my appointment by 15 Minutes and that I would have to reschedule. I see Dr. Yang. This review is mainly for him as well as a review of the office admin. Dr. Yang gets 5 stars and the admin get 2 stars. Dr. Yang gets 5 stars. No question. He is very smart and personable. He is clearly an expert in what he does. He is a great doctor. I had an epidural done and he did the procedure at the new Sutter hospital in town (very nice place). He knew exactly where to insert the needle. After about 3 days, my pain and symptoms did start to go away (they say it does take a few days for the epidural to start working). Admin: here's where the star rating goes down. I had some problems with admin during my experience. I give them 2 stars. My main issue is that the staff are not all educated on the same set of info so things can get messed up. I was first told I had to wait for pre-approval of my MRI. I didn't understand why since I already got pre-approval prior to visiting this office. Believe me, I know, it was a long waiting process. So, because this info didn't make sense, I asked to speak to the insurance dept. I was told they were at lunch. I asked for a call that afternoon. NO ONE EVER CALLED. Next, I called again a few days later. Note that there was no knowledge of my prior message. I asked for the same dept. I got connected and then sent straight to voicemail. I called back and said "is there anyone who I can speak to right now? I got a voicemail and I really like to talk to a live person now." I was told there was only one man to speak to and he was on the phone. Fast forward 2 hrs later....I get a call back from this "guy on the phone." Guess what, he tells me, I'm not the guy to speak to. You need to talk to the OTHER guy in this dept. Other guy I say? I thought it was a one man dept? Oh...who told you that? That's not true. Anyway, after going through all of these loops and wasting A LOT of time, I finally learn that I don't need to wait for pre-approval! Whaaaaat?!?! I was told I had to wait. I waited weeks while being in pain and out of work. All to find out that I didn't need to wait?!?! Unbelievable. Anyway. This is the worst experience I have ever had with office staff incompetence, and if I could give a negative star rating I would. I have been trying to get an injection for extreme lower back pain (couldn't get out of bed, put on my socks/shoes, bend over at all, etc...) due to degenerative disk disease for over a year now and that incompetence has been the reason why it has taken this long and still not have an injection. Initially I scheduled an appointment back in Mid-February 2020 prior to the pandemic lockdowns for an initial consult. I told the staff that I had an x-ray, but inquired if I needed to get an MRI as well prior to this appointment if it would be needed for me to get my injection. I was told, "No, you don't need one the x-ray is enough.". I also asked again at the end of the phone call to schedule the appointment if she was SURE that I wouldn't need an MRI for this procedure and again she stated, "There is no need for an MRI.", so I didn't schedule one prior to my appointment. Once I arrived for my new patient appointment and was discussing my condition with Dr. Hau (who was very nice) he stated that we would have to order an MRI! Considering I was in extreme pain at the time, I was furious and overly disappointed considering that I could have had this done prior to the appointment, so I could have had a full review at that appointment, and schedule my next appointment for an injection to hopefully reduce my pain. I had an MRI done within a couple weeks at the earliest available time, so I could get my injection ASAP. I scheduled an appointment and then Covid lockdown hit and they had to cancel that appointment due to the lockdown, so I continued to live in extreme pain for the months to follow. If I would have been informed properly and had the MRI completed I would have been able to get in for the injection prior to the lockdown. Now let's jump forward to December 2020. I had a terrible flare up and was in so much pain again I couldn't sleep and was back to being in constant pain every day (fortunately not as bad as before, but still bad enough that I thought I would try to get an injection again). I made the mistake of giving this office another chance to help me with my issue. The earliest they could get me in was in Mid-January, so I took the appointment. Three days prior to my Jan. 21st appointment they called me and stated the Doctor wouldn't be in that day and the next available appointment wasn't until February 3rd, so considering I didn't have a choice I took that appointment. That was very frustrating considering my previous experience with them and wanting desperately to have this pain reduced. I called my family Doctor again and asked for any other Doctors that I could see instead of this office hoping to get in sooner. She directed me to Redwood Pain Management and Dr. Ahmed's office (who is FANTASTIC), so I called and was able to schedule an appointment on Feb. 2nd (a day earlier than my other appointment), so I scheduled it. Knowing this would be another "new patient" appointment I called Dr. Hau's office in regard to my Feb. 3rd appointment to see if I would actually be receiving the shot I have been needing for over a year now. The office staff stated that it would be another consult and no shots given. After hearing that I told them to cancel my appointment because I refuse to pay them again for an office visit that I already had with them. On Feb. 9th (my anniversary) I received an invoice for $50 in the mail from Summit Pain Alliance, LLC for a "no show" FOR THE APPOINTMENT THAT THEY RESCHEDULED!!! This is absolutely ridiculous and incompetence at the highest levels. I have since called their billing department to get this corrected and the lady on the phone told me, "I was the 1.5 millionth person to call in with this same complaint." (exactly her words), so it isn't just me who has been suffering in pain and trying to work with an office that is completely incompetent, but also being invoiced for their mess-ups. I will be filing a complaint with their office manager, alerting my family Doctor of these debacles, and also recommend that they never refer anyone to this office because of all these issues. When someone is in pain, we want to get out of pain ASAP, and if you try to work with this office you may be prolonging your suffering due to their negligence and incompetence. Personally I feel they could care less and only want to schedule you for multiple appointments to pad their pockets instead of getting treatments to patients in need of pain reduction ASAP in minimal appointments and help us reduce pain that is destroying us and our lives. read more

I am a caregiver for a woman in Santa Rosa. She has had 9 back surgeries. The last three involved removing part of the metal apparatus that was exposed, i.e, rods and screws. She had her last surgery on 9/11/20. She was assigned Dr. Yang as her pain specialist a few surgeries past. After her last surgery, she couldn't reach anyone on the phone and no way of leaving a message. I drove to the Summit offices hoping to find a way for her to get with her pain. Now, once again, we are unable to reach anyone on the phone. There is no way to leave a message as their mailbox continues to be "full". She is suffering terribly and no one will even answer the phone! So sad and SO wrong! read more

This. Place. Is. A. Joke. In my 38 years I have not met or encountered a more unprofessional office staff. Ever. I don't even know where to begin. Referred here for pain management before insurance would authorize surgery. Meet with one doctor, schedule a procedure, get a call the day before that the procedure has to be cancelled because the facility it was booked at doesn't take our insurance. Call to reschedule, "you're going to have to come in, the doctor you met with before is no longer with the practice..." Finally get procedure rescheduled, call the day before to get the arrival time at the surgery center, "we don't have any record of you having a procedure here tomorrow." After some yelling and screaming, get it scheduled. Show up at the ascribed time, after time off of work had to be arranged at the last minute, and low and behold...running nearly 2 hours behind for a 5 minute procedure. Post-op scheduled and cancelled by the office. The staff tried to reschedule the post-op with an NP instead of the MD who did it, insisted on seeing the MD. Show up for post-op (two months after the procedure...a procedure that didn't work by the way) and the receptionist says "someone was supposed to call you, the doctor isn't in today, but you can see the NP..." this is after we drove 20 mins one way in the middle of the day... And billing? It doesn't seem to matter how many times we provide them with insurance cards and information, we keep getting bills...isn't it your job to submit claims to insurance and get them paid instead of just forwarding balance due bills to a doubly insured patient? The only pain this place seems to manage is the pain in my ass, which they regularly increase. Ok, Yes, 5 stars.. Here is why and I know everyone has their own experience but here is mine.. I live in Marin County and at the time the two doctors I was seeing for my severe pain brought on from years or road racing motorcycles and skydiving, we're both moving out of the area. It was extremely hard to find a doctor in my area that would take my insurance and after a bit of a search, I luckily found Michael Yang at Summit Pain Alliance only a short 20 min drive to their office in Petaluma CA. Right away I was at ease with Michael since he was also a former motorcyclist and an alum of the broken collarbone club. I find it helps when talking to doctors that understand the dangers involved with racing and or crashing. Michael and I tried everything to find relief treatments for my my back and neck issues. We eventually tried my first epidural which seemed to work the longest, but after a short period of time, the pain would return and it became my living nightmare. I own a drink company and each case weighs about 11lbs, my general practitioner didn't want me lifting more than 5lbs. When I would do physical work, it just about broke me. I would have to go rest only after a few hours and being on my feet all day was brutally hard. All things suffered, as an entrepreneur RaceFuelZ didn't have a pain free guy at the helm to lead things the best I could. After 2.5 years we tried it all. Increased physical therapy, pain meds, epidurals and even tried a rhizotomy (burn your nerve endings). When that didn't work, I really felt that I was at the end of my rope, (I would never do anything to harm myself, but) I remember saying to Michael, I just don't know how much more I can take of this and I have a high threshold for pain. It was at that time, we discussed me being a candidate for a trial of a new back pain therapy. I would be testing the Nevro HF10 spinal cord stimulation device, an internal battery like a tens device but that would eventually live inside my body. For the trial they don't install the device, they will however run the leads up your spine and connect the wires sticking out of your back into the battery on your waist for a week. Before I go any further, I want to say that I am not a paid reviewer of this system or the doctors office. I am however about to tell you about a partial gift that I have been given with my quality of life. The initial surgery went well, aside from the pain of the tape and discomfort of the wires in your back, the stabbing, crippling pain was pretty much gone, I was afraid to say how much I thought was gone at first because I was so used to things wearing off, but I felt pretty amazing. While having the device in and working for my crippling pain, I sadly realized how many other things in my body hurt that I wasn't able to feel because of the overriding pain in my back and neck. Five days later it was time to get the device unplugged and take the temp leads out (that was gross). I was told by the Nevro rep that I would or could experience the positive effects of the device for a few days. She was right, it lasted 5.5 days. One the final day that it would wear off, the pain came back, not gradually but like a Road runner ton of bricks. It hurt so bad, I actually wept with the thought of living with this pain some more. Luckily my healthcare insurance kicked in and 30 days later I was rolling into the OR ready to have the device put in permanently. 3 Hours later I was rolled out to the curb, hopped out of the chair and was driven home. The recovery of this process is NO JOKE, quite painful but if it would work then I might be out of the agonizing pain I was living with. week 1 = tough, week 2 = tough week 3 = getting allot better and by week 6 I was able to not only sleep pain free through the night, get up and out of chairs without pain, but I was able to sit on an 8.5 hr flight to Iceland where I would hike up glaciers and enjoy a pain free vacation for the first time in 10 years... 7 Months later: I am still in awe of the Nevro Device and have follow ups with Michael Yang and his staff at Summit Pain Alliance. But, I am able to live life almost like a normal person again. I can SLEEP,! lift the groceries out of the cart (sounds stupid I know), lift cases of my product and not wince, ride a bike with my son, drive (which I love) and so many little things that you take for granted on a daily basis. I am reminded that I am not fixed though often without Summit Pain Alliance telling me, my back and neck still remind me if I push things to far and I have to take it easy or easier for a few days to recover. But I can't say enough good things about Summit Pain Alliance and the compassionate team of doctors, nurses and staff have been towards me. I recently moved back to Santa Rosa and had my first appointment yesterday with Dr. Yang. While my wait time was longer than expected, it wasn't too bad since I was filling out new patient paperwork for most of the time. Once I met with Dr. Yang the first thing he did was apologize for the wait and explained normal wait time was usually much shorter. Dr. Yang was attentive while listening to me while I explained the reasons for my visit and, I didn't feel rushed even though I knew he was way behind schedule. He gave me hope by offering possible solutions for my issues. I'm following through with his recommendations and am hopeful they'll help. Today there was a problem with my pharmacy regarding the prescription he ordered for me. I called the office and was helped by a very pleasant front-office staff person (didn't catch her name but she answered the appointment/medication line), who assured me Dr. Yang would be notified as soon as he was done with the patient he was with; and, that I'd be notified once it was taken care of. Based on my experience as a new patient, I would recommend Dr. Yang/Summit Pain Alliance if you're in need of quality pain management in Santa Rosa. read more

I see Dr. Hau in Petaluma for lower back pain. He is excellent and has performed several injections in my back! He's really knowledgeable and has a good bedside manner. The only reason I didn't give them a 5-star rating is because of the support staff. They often drop the ball on calling my insurance and scheduling procedures, which is frustrating when you're in pain. I think it's the support staff in Santa Rosa that's the source of the problem (Armondo has been blamed twice). read more

Dr Yang is quick to do procedures, epidurals, etc. He has caused my pain to get worse, refuses to follow up, or keep up with his patients progress or lack there of. He has never returned any of my calls, his staff is inadequate at best. Always assuming you want more drugs than asking what the problem is. Ive missed 4 days of work due to his procedure, and it landed me in the ER, a few times. He still has not responded. I lost my job due to his neglect. No Compassion, like his website says. I Highly Do Not recommend Dr. Michael Yang, for Pain Management. He has proven over and over that he does not care aboyt the well being of his patients. In our experience, it's not often we find a healthcare organization with this level of quality. My wife has been a patient of Dr. Hau for several months now. He and his Medical Assistant, Sarah, have been outstanding. Not only do they place a high value on punctuality, they actually LISTEN to our needs and guide us through care options. Dr. Hau and Sarah deserve more than 5 stars and we would give more of we could. They define the meaning of healthcare and always autograph their work with excellence! I will review honestly as I go along . 1st visit was my intake and list of Meds etc, they scheduled a Referal for MRI and a topical gel to use 4 times a day Voltran I think , not sure on the spelling . Note: it's been almost a month and nobody has contacted me about the topical gel that was supposed to arrive in the mail, call the office they said the nurse had forgotten to request it that's why I hadn't heard anything back. They said they were going to re-request the gel and by my appointment on September 6 they would have an answer for me. Dept 6th -This is my 2nd visit so far . I have Dr Pope, he is very down to earth and friendly .He makes eye contact and shakes your hand , a plus for trust ! Office staff seem like they are always super busy and some are on auto pilot Communication between patient and office staff needs to be looked at. Since I have worked in an run a medical office I can see that they have a huge overload of patients funneling in and out and details get overlooked. Nobody had an answer about the topical gel I was supposed to get. Somebody dropped a bomb Let Dr. Pope know about this and he said that he would make sure I got a sample today to take with me. Nurse Grace informed me that they are out of the product and waiting for the rep to come in, as soon as they had more in stock they would call me to come in and pick some up. Trigger point injection for my shoulder is being submitted to insurance before I can actually take place even though I am in pain and need it today it's like I'm going to have to wait another 3 to 4 weeks, hopefully by then I will of had my MRI and can get it to them. Quality Doctors but as for front office staff, oh hell NO!!!!!! These girls suck at returning calls and scheduling appointments. Because of their piss poor organizational skills ( basically lack of any) they caused me to miss having a surgical appointment earlier than later. Oh sure they said how oh so sorry they were. Now, they say I'll have to wait ANOTHER month just to get ANOTHER pre-exam appointment to schedule the surgical procedure, which is usually two to three out from that. Acceptable when you're in pain??? Screw this place. They have their name right though, they are in "Alliance with Pain," not worrying about removing it. Called summit on Tuesday, left a voicemail saying I was a new patient. The outgoing message said it may take 3 days before they got back to me.. A little scary.. Later that day I got a call back letting me know that they would discuss my referral and get back to me in a couple days. I went to see Dr. Pope two times. The first time was not very productive and I left feeling unsupported. I booked a second appointment to follow up and it was worse the second time. I don't know what this doctor is doing for people but it's certainly not supporting those in pain with serious injuries. I've seen a lot of doctors in my time and this was pretty disturbing. The office is set up in this ridiculous open format with with those in each examination room so the entire lobby can see into each patient exam room. The doctor bounces from one room to the next with his laptop,rarely looking up to engage or ask questions. I've canceled future appointment with this establishment finding I got more support from my primary care physician. It's a shame that people suffering in pain rely on this doctor for help dealing with brutal, debilitating, chronic pain. Don't waste your time. read more

My daughter was referred to this office by her orthopedic surgeon to treat her sciatica. When I called to make an appointment I was told she would need a photo ID when she checks in. I explained my daughter is special needs -she has severe social anxiety. She rarely leaves our home. The young lady I spoke with said she would need to speak with the office manager and call me back. She did call back and advised the office manager said that is their rule and without the ID they would not provide service. What a heartless firm! read more

This office has updated their staff and added a doctor recently. Appointments have been much more smooth. I went to see dr hau and he was knowledgeable and professional and a comforting bedside manner. I was referred to two different places in marin county and summit had the best care for my post op follow up. My insurance company and billing went smoothly as well. I am back on my feet due to the great staff at Pain Summit Alaince. Last fall my electrocardiologist recommend me to Pain Summit Alaince. From then I have had steroid injections, one ablated nerve and PRP shots. These procedures have greatly improved my life and given me back some of my life that was taken away by chronic paim. I don't need to repeat my experience here, except to say that: 1. Dr. Yang recommended a particular type of procedure for me, but the office staff scheduled a different kind. Cancelled as soon as I realized the problem. No follow up from Dr or staff as to why. 2. I saw Dr Yang as a consult, not as my Pain Management Dr. I have a Pain Management Dr already. So no "follow up" on my meds would be needed. Same big pressure to take unnecessary and expensive tests, and office staff was as reported in many, many other negative reviews. 3. Dr Yang was quite pleasant, knowledgable and communicated his recommended procedure clearly and in great detail to me. Unfortunately the scheduling staff apparently did not get the same message I did. read more

WATCH YOUR WALLET!! My husband and I were referred to Dr. Yang to see if he would fill our pain medications. My husband is 81 and has been on the same medication for severe back pain for the past 20 years. Dr. Yang gladly wrote him an rx for a narcotic. I've been on two strong pain meds which I've been on for crushed nerves in my foot for which he would NOT prescribe for me. He would however would do a special procedure that he said was quite costly. (big surprise) I thought at the time it sounded like a good idea. He asked me if I ever had back pain. I said yes, when I vacuumed, and sometime in the evenings. I told him I took a muscle relaxant for it. He suggested a back brace that might be of help. Until we called our insurance company we had no idea he was going to charge Medicare $1400.00 for it., talk about over charging!By the time we left the office my husband and I were so livid that he wouldn't give him an rx for the crushed nerves, but would kill the pain with some procedure that was very expensive, and would have to get a ok from Medicare and UHC. They did warn us that if we didn't show up for the procedure, even if I was ill, that there would be a $500 charge, unless we had a Dr.s note. I think that almost made us more upset than anything else. Before we got home we knew that we were firing Dr. Yang as our pain management Dr. I asked him what I was supposed to do about the pain medications I had been on for 10 years. He said he had a list of Dr.s that would "help" me. My husband asked why he would have a list of Dr.s that would prescribe opioids for patients yet he wouldn't. Dr. Yang said "it's like this,...some people will run red lights, others won't." :-( Shame on you Dr. Yang.Not telling me that the cost for the back brace was $1400, that's almost twice what I receive from Medicare a month! Because you're wealthy I believe it's unfair to overcharge patients to get yours. You took an oath to not cause harm to your patients. I now understand why you don't prescribe pain medications, you can only prescribe for a office visit. For 15 minutes with me you were able to talk me into a $1400 back brace. I so appreciate all of the Yelps that have been shared, it's clear to see that you only go for the big buck procedures. I can see that these procedures didn't work. You said that the procedure don't always work. I worked in a Dr.s office for years. Doc would have at least given our patients a prescription to last until the procedure was done, rather than to let them suffer. He helped our patients as long as they did what the dr. requested of them. I'm proud to say that the doc I worked for didn't allow our patients to suffer. I cancelled our appointments before anymore damage was done. With all the many Dr.s I've had to visit in my 70 years, you're clearly at the bottom of the list. read more

Hi, I haven't had any issues with front staff. I haven't had any issues with Dr. Yang, he's very competent. I have been seeing him for little over two years. I have had about 13 epidurals since the inflammation in my spine is very resistant to most treatments. Now that the inflammation is under control I am needing less and less epidurals. Dr. Yang is not pushy about your procedures. If I feel like not getting one we just schedule another follow up to make sure I am OK. He has an excellent bed side manner, very friendly. I was referred to him AFTER trying everything else. I had acupuncture, physical therapy, exercise, herbal remedies. I tried everything and since I was not responding to them I needed to get epidurals. They have really improved my quality of life. One tip, if your GP refers you to him without having tried all the other methods mentioned above. you really should try them before having epidurals. Some Dr's are just too busy to make sure you have preformed your due diligence. Don't get freaked out, just tell your GP you want to try a few other things first to see how you do. read more

I highly recommend that you DON'T GO HERE. It is a mill. I really believe that this business is set up merely to make as much money as possible off of its patients. The first thing they did was ask me to take a drug test as soon as I walked in. It was insulting. First of all, I wasn't there for drugs. I was there to find out about a spinal injection for my back pain. Secondly, they made me wait a LONG time to even be able to see my would be doctor. Thirdly, the way the doctor spoke it sounded as though he wasn't sure how many injections I would need which is crap because I know for a fact that you are only ever supposed to get no more than 3 steroid shots in your back in your lifetime. I talked to a woman who had gone there and she said they did several shots on her and still the pain was no better. (My guess- and I could be reaching here, but it seems like they try to do as many injections as possible so they can make more money off of you) She said she gave up and decided to be in pain the rest of her life because she didn't want to go back. Today, I received a bill for 342.00 even though I'm completely covered by partnership and the bill was for the drug test, and a consultation with the doctor. It's absurd and I won't be paying it. I really think the worst thing about the place though is the degrading way in which they treat their patients, like we're just a bunch of drug addicts. Save yourself the trouble!!!!!!!!! read more

Now that I have switched from this office, I can truly tell you how terrible they are. The workers comp person does NOT return calls. I tried for 2 weeks and left a voice mail every 2 days. NO excuse for this. The office manager, Grace, lies outright. The whole place is about money making. I've NEVER seen a fee menu in the waiting room of any Dr. I have ever seen. Inappropriate! They need to give new patients a menu when they come the first time, not hang it in the waiting room. I was charged $250. for an insurance doc to be filled out. I was originally told it would cost $50. The Dr. didn't fill it out, the nurse didn't fill it out, the FREAKING OFFICE MANAGER filled it out and it took over a month, plus it was inaccurate and poorly done with 3 different color inks. They made me take urine tests (more $$ for them) and got angry that I was not taking the opiates they prescribed. My research has led me to learn that opiates do not work for my condition. I didn't want to get hooked on the 3x a day dose either. When other Dr.'s hear I had 8 stellate ganglion blocks through my neck for my autonomic nerve disorder called CRPS, they are shocked. All of them have stated that if I wasn't helped after 3 that I should have stopped. How did I know that... I trusted that Yang knew what he was doing. He is an anesthesiologist yet only got 2 of the 8 right for me. 6 of them I was fully awake for, I felt everything, and cried out. 2 of them I was actually flopping on the table like a fish out of water. Horrendous! I later found out how dangerous my procedures are. I got very temporary relief at best from them. I wish I could stand outside this place and keep people from going in. :-( read more

I have had spinal issues, and spine injury. I was referred to Dr. Yang. I continued to see this practice for two years. I recieved multiple epidural shots. And even went thru a scs trial I requested they use information from my pcp or order a blood test to achieve the info they "required". The office manager? Practice manager? Came into a treatnent room and continued to use intimidation ,raise her voice,belittle and berate me. She threatend me and blocked my exit from the room. She was extremely hostile. I was not afforded the opportunity to present alternative points of view and perhaps a colabortive solution. She continued to lay down the law and I was told to go with the program or leave. I was stunned into silence and in the end I complied and I left with the understanding they would be contacting me with the next step in my treatments. That was three months ago. I am someone that suffers ptsd , a I suffer from anxiety disorders and other mental illness like severe deppression. I was so triggered by this experience I could not function. I am still experiencing anxiety over the experiences. (All info avialable in my chart.) I am still dealing with extreme pain and limited mobility. I am literally afraid to contact them. Something else to consider is the practice is a volume buisness, once you're in the rotation the appointments and treatments are timed in frequency to create a assembly line of paitents and billing. (Especially if your a medicare/medi-cal) keep in mind every epidural is two appointments plus the procedure all billable, two epidural s a month ( necessary or not)six appointments a month. Again all billable. The feeling like a number or that you're cattle is pretty evident if your paying attention. Nice new office right? Dr Yang is great, nice bedside manner and efficient (22 procedures performed by noon??) So you rarely get the advantage of his imput about your condition, he leaves that to his clinical practisioner who spends 10 min at best with you, long enough to convince you the next epidural will be the one that fixes you... Want to be a number and you don't mind being treated like a child ( condecending appointment reminders, hour lead times to be sure you show up )go for it, but you better make sure your clear on your appointment, the staff will lie to cover their errors. Very quick to tell me to get injections - with little explanation. They said they would set it up - wait for the call - and never heard from anyone again. Even after calling them again about the injection appointment. Since another appointment had been made to see how the injection (that never happened) got close, I had to cancel it. (Did it well within the allotted time without $$ penalty.) Now they are sending me bills for "no show" and won't answer my emails about it. Maybe they can help some people, but be wary of their office and patient practices. I would advise trying elsewhere. In addition to a useless appointment I had to pay for they are now trying to charge me for not showing up to an appointment I didn't have. read more

Wonderful experience! I was in this week to see Nancy, Nurse Practitioner at Summit Pain Alliance. I found Nancy to be extremely knowledgeable, kind, professional, and caring. I have been with Dr. Yang's office for many years, since he started on Mendocino Avenue. Dr. Yang has a very busy practice however it seems there is a revolving door when it comes to his employees. Finally, someone of Nancy's caliber has been hired, which makes me a very, very happy patient.
