We had a great experience with Summit Tutoring Center over the past year. My kid has been taking English classes here, and we've been very happy with her progress. Mr. Parr has been a wonderful English teacher- supportive, patient and very helpful in strengthening her writing skills. More recently, we worked with Mr. Lee on the application to a selective summer program. He gave clear, helpful feedback on essays and really helped with interview prep. He's supportive but also sets high expectations, which made a big difference. With his help, the application worked out really well. My sister and I have attended tutoring classes at Summit for the past five years, and it's definitely helped me with understanding a lot of content. Their front desk is amicable and can be real heroes when it comes to scheduling a last-minute study session before a big test. The tutors themselves are very knowledgeable -- I was that kid who tried to stump tutors with outlandish questions about the material, but I'd get thoughtful responses for every question I asked. Even in larger classes, the teachers will try their best to engage every student -- but it's one of those situations where you get what you put in (being bold enough to ask about confusing material or making friends with a question-asker can be important). Summit's tutoring also benefits from a secret ingredient, which is the community surrounding it. Even though local schools could be fiercely competitive, I only ever felt like everyone at Summit (including my fellow students) wanted us all to succeed. The front desk remains in close contact with alumni from local high schools, which helps develop tutoring classes that go beyond teaching basic course material into actively complementing a certain teacher's teaching style at a certain local school. You'll be missing out if you judge this tutoring center by its Yelp rating! Finally we (as parents) are over the hurdle of standardize tests. We have two daughters: one is close to graduate from college and one is in her final stretch to find her ideal college (she is still a junior). I hope that our experience can help anyone who comes to Yelp (this page specifically) to make a sound decision for his/her kids with less anxiety. We have attended all the garden variety of tutoring and counseling in Tri-Valley area: the C*, the E*, and the I*. You should know all of these if you are doing a little bit research. With both of daughters, we spend great amount on C*, good amount on E*, and outrage amount on I*. If you ever a big believer that money can solve any problem, this experience can clearly prove you are wrong. They all pressured you to sign up with big $ in advance but offered obscured subpar tutoring and counseling sessions, especially by talking about how great their own kids were (BTW I DO NOT NEED TO KNOW THAT). With my first daughter, the standardized test scores we got were mediocre with multiple tries, of course with multiple money traps. Luckily my first daughter has a sport advantage who was accepted in a very good college. Lucky !!! But my second daughter has no such luck. We know Maggie and co. for a while, since we took some AP tutoring classes offered by STC for our second daughter to get her ahead or at least smooth out her nervousness in her AP math courses. So we asked Maggie help for her SAT standardized test this time. We do not want to shed big $ for a long period, but just want to have solid private tutoring sessions with reasonable cost. Maggie and co. definitely helped us on this front. They provided proctored practice test in the morning similar to the real deal (this is critically important and worth every penny). After the practice test, we followed with a private tutoring or a small group review session. After going through about 10 sessions in about 2 months, my second daughter's SAT test result finally came back and proved the effectiveness of Maggie and co, and WE ARE DONE WITH IT (what a relief!). One important point we hope anybody could share with us before our journey is that you should always separate standardize test preparation from college counseling. Many are trying to trap you with big $ spent in front for both, which is nothing but a big waste. Again I wish you the best luck on this journey if you are about start or just start. But you should at least REMEMBER Maggie and co, who can provide you genuine helps, which you may NOT get anywhere else. I hope this help you! read more

Preface: Summit Tutoring Center (STC) was recommended by a friend for college counseling. Quality: The college counselors are very knowledgeable (shoutout to Nelson and Daniel). They are very open and help students emphasize their best strengths. STC encourages students to express their own story. The counselors knew the application process inside-out and gave advice that best fits their students' situations. Recommendation: Ultimately, my child was accepted into USC, UC Berkeley, and UCLA. If it was not for STC's essay advice, application instructions, and willingness to foster my child's greatest strengths, I do not think such results would be obtainable. STC's counseling system allows for flexibility. As such, students are in-charge of which section of the application they would like to focus more on. If you are looking for such option, I would highly recommend STC's college counseling services. read more

We've gone to different tutoring centers in the area since our child was in elementary school, and STC is by far the best of all that she has attended. Our high schooler has attended STC classes and met with tutors for one-on-one sessions over the past four years. STC has worked to customize the learning experiences to meet the specific needs of our daughter in every instance and demonstrates a genuine interest in her success--both now and in the future. Our daughter is very active in different activities in school and out of school, and STC has worked with us countless times to adjust their schedule to meet hers. Indeed, on a number of occasions, her math tutor has met with her on days when the center is closed or after business hours. The instruction she has received in some of her one-on-one tutoring sessions such as math and physics has been outstanding, and the grades she has received in those courses can be directly attributed to those sessions and her tutors. read more

STC helped me a lot when I had trouble with my Honors Physics class. I worked one-on-one with a TA afterschool whenever I had trouble understanding concepts at school and I felt that I really comprehended it better after the sessions. The tutor was also so chill to work with and definitely easy to talk to. My 16yo daughter has been taking US history tutoring from Summit for the past year and has had very good experience. The tutor is excellent from nearby high school. Price is very reasonable. We have gone through 3 different facilities nearby in the past and did not work out. Summit is the one that is most down to earth and helpful. read more

We have had nothing but positive experiences at Summit. They are truly the nicest people and so helpful. I didn't think my child was going to be too thrilled when I told him he would be going after school to Homework Club. Boy, was I wrong! He loves it! We have used Summit Tutoring service for many years. Both of my sons attended the classes there. We had a great experience with the qualified teachers and friendly staff there. My older son is now a high school junior. He used Summit Tutoring service starting 7th grade. He took English, math and science classes at Summit and maintained excellent grades in high school. My younger son is currently taking writing class. He enjoyed learning there and made great progresses in his reading and writing skills. We really appreciate the help we received from Summit. Summit is great. My daughter has been going there for quite a while now and I am extremely pleased with the results. Recently, with a help of a teacher, she was able to pass the San Ramon Algebra 2 Placement Test and is taking Honors Pre Calculus this Fall.
