This little veterinary clinic is located in a strip mall by McDonald's. I called ahead on a Saturday morning to see if they can scan for microchips on a dog I found. Lady who answered was quick and friendly. I drove past this place not expecting it to be a little place sandwiched between stores. The waiting room is small, maybe 4 chairs. This place had no compassion towards our family regarding our dog that passed away. We do have a large dog but the first reason they said they would not take our dog for cremation is because their office is all females and they didn't want to take the dog due to his size which is completely unacceptable they are required to take any dog no matter the size then we call back saying we can bring our dog in and the doctor was on the phone with us and she was extremely rude and couldn't take our dog due to the size and not having enough room. We were quoted $2500 for our cat in Canyon Lake for surgery to remove kidney stones. 2nd opinion with Sun City was $900. I have been going to this Veterinarian since this office was opened (1987). Dr. Dickson is very good, has "horse sense". The newer vet, Dr. L. (I can't remember her name, sorry) is also good. There is not room here to describe all the times and all of my pets experiences here. I have NEVER been disappointed, always impressed by the excellent care, office visits, solutions, surgeries, teeth cleaning, and prices, etc. And, they are the most reasonably priced veterinary practice of them all. They are "full up" and have a waiting list for new clients to get in. This tells you something. There is always a wait, often a long wait, in the waiting room, before being taken in, and another wait in the exam room. This is because they take the time with each pet and each concern. They are worth the wait times, in my opinion. I give them five stars, I could give 4 due to the long waits in the waiting room, but, I haven't because it's worth the wait. read more

The staff here are absolutely amazing, I have had bad experiences with vets rushing you to say goodbye to your loved ones but the staff here was the COMPLETE opposite. Very sympathetic, very respectful, talked us through every step, answered any questions. And even helped guide our dog's spirit up to heaven after the euthanasia medicine. I come here because it's affordable and close by and while the other Veterinarian is very compassionate and really wants to help, Doctor Dixon is the worst vet I have ever had to work with. I hate how because of my days off and my income I have to work with her for the sake of my fur baby. And while in the past she has seemed to properly care for my pet the last visit might be the last straw for me. In my last visit Dr Dixon refused to listen to my pets past medical history of having a spinal aneurysm in her youth contributing to limb weakness. I was upset but trying to maintain my composure during the visit to which Dr Dixon decided to confront me during the visit about my emotions. When I stated to her that I was feeling dismissed and not listened to she quickly brushed it off while running out the door "sorry that's not my specialty". Like she couldn't have stated that before. The final kicker is that she did a UA during a recheck after a round of antibiotics and stated "no bacteria but presence of nitrates". I trusted her because I am not a vet and she did not prescribe any medication because a joint supplement to my dog. This was Monday 5/19/2025. Cut to today and my dog is not peeing blood with another UTI because apparently according to internet searched nitrates can indicate presence of a UTI. As a Veterinarian she should have known this and treated my pet appropriately but because she did not prescribe any antibiotics now my dog potentially has to deal with an antibiotic resistant infection due to the length of time she let the infection go untreated. So now because it is Memorial Day and her office is closed I have to go to a more expensive vet but honestly I'm probably going to get better care there. I'm so disappointed. read more

My 2yo dog was coughing and gagging a lot and our regular vet was booked so I desperately called all the other vets in the area, but they were all booked. I called Sun City Veterinary Clinic and I talked to the receptionist. I told her what was going on and how scared I was and she put me on hold and came back and told me they had an opening and could get me in. I was ecstatic. Then she asked if I had been there before and I said no and she told me sorry we're not taking new patients, wished me luck, and hung up. A few hours later we had to rush him to emergency because he was having trouble breathing. He is okay now, thank God The fact that they knew what was going on and how desperate we were and were able to help us but flat out refused was shocking to me. My 11 month old pup had eaten a strap of a sandal and it caused an obstruction in his stomach and intestine. He was very sick: vomiting, lethargic, and not willing to eat. We took him to the CVS Veterinarian in Murrieta on Sunday and they told us it was going to cost a total of $7800 for the surgery. We were absolutely devastated. We could not afford that. We decided to bring him home after they just gave him fluids and anti nausea medication and took him to Sun City Veterinarian Clinic the next morning. We were thrilled to hear they were able to do the same procedure to save my baby's life for less than 1/8th of that cost. Not only that, but I could tell how great they took care of my baby. When I started going here 20 years ago, it was a good place for animals. Not so much anymore. At this point in time she ( Gloria Dickson) had been treating a total of 7 of my adult cats. Long story short. My last cat Ashley needed to have 2 teeth removed right around Thanksgiving. She is or was 17 1/2 years old. So we brought her in and had it done, under anesthesia of course. We brought her home and after 2 days she could no longer walk, and was told by an Emergency Pet Vet that her neurological situation was permanent. This cat had been in our lives since 2005 and was by my side when I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. She helped me throughout it. We had to put her down the Sunday after T-giving. I truly believe they gave her way too much anesthesia. We are heartbroken. One last thing. about 2 years ago, we arranged to have our cat named "Baby" put down at the same Sun City Vet. We made an appt. We had to wait approx 2-1/2 hours even though we had an appt. The experience was like pouring salt in to the would. She apologized, but there is little to no communication in this office. Insult to injury to say the least. Suffice to say I wouldn't take my worst enemy to this place, ever. Unbelievable. I have gone to this facility for several years and have always seen Dr. Lochner. Today, I saw Dr. Dixson. Never. Again. Please beware. Please read this even though it is long. Protect yourself from lunacy and expense. All I wanted was to (1 have my dog's anal glands expressed, 2) get anti-anxiety meds to calm my newly rescued dog during nail trimming 3) drop off reports about her DNA results and recent visit to a vet neurologist for her file. Note: I was not there to discuss those results because they had nothing to do with the visit. What ensued was the most insane, disrespectful and off-topic visit I have ever had anywhere. I gave Dixson the DNA report to put in my dog's file, and she sneered and announced "they don't know what they are doing. I don't believe any of this". Okay, gee, I guess Columbia University Vets who do the DNA are a bunch of dummies. Then she was shocked about what I paid for the DNA. Thank you for shaming me and treating me with disrespect. Then she went off on the DNA testing site for humans, 23 and Me, (which I had not brought up). She then announced that my dog is a Terrier (which is nowhere in her DNA). And then we really entered Crazy Land. Okay, let me first say that people are entitled to their opinions even if I don't agree with them. But in my humble opinion, they are NOT entitled to dump their conspiracy theories on me on MY DIME during a VET APPOINTMENT. I did not pay to hear that "they" are poisoning us; "they" use genetics to manipulate us (OMG: it is a DOG); they are poisoning the food; radio waves or something are altering us; fluoride in the water is destroying our bones; on and on to the point that I wanted to run out of there. Dr. Dixson's intensity and non-stop ranting were downright scary. And then, when she finally refocused, she said she would cut my dog's nails real short--so short that even some of her vet techs freak out haha----I said, uh, no thank you. Then she said she would just trim the tips, no thank you (I now do not trust you). As for the calming meds, she had to research them. Wow. Get me outta here. Then she tried to push Science Diet dog food on me (no thank you to overpriced corn) and then tried to hustle doggie vitamins at $17 a pop. All I wanted were anal glands expressed, meds for nail trimming. Could she just do what I AM PAYING FOR?? Apparently, NO. The final obnoxious behavior came when, during the end of the visit, I got a phone call and said, "I'm so sorry. I need to take this as it is probably from a rescue that will help me with a stray that I found." So she says she will step out and get the meds ready. Great! When she returns, I happily tell her that the the call was indeed from the rescue and that they will help me and, again, sorry for the call. And what does she say???? "Let it go, let it go, I have already lost time out of my life over this;I don't need anymore time lost. I don't care about any of this." WOW. Just holy crap WOW. Rude. At best. Oh, wait, she's mad because I won't let her trim my dog's nails, buy her vitamins. And, by the way, she never took my dog's temp, listened to her heart, etc like Dr. Lochner does every single time no matter what you are there for. I paid $68 for this lunacy and am livid. Can any of us afford to throw away $68? NO. The worst, most stressful, horrible visit ever. Stay away from this place. Crazy town. read more

My dog was dropped off to get fixed this morning at 10am. Went to pick her up at 5pm and they still haven't done the surgery. She vomit and has diarrhea she's probably scared. They are barely going to do the surgery and now we have to go back at 8pm. She hasn't eaten all day. Horrible service! I was planning on getting her spayed so they said they would take her in next day for $158-$198 "depending on the size of her uterus, but she has a small one so it shouldn't be more than $200" is what the DOCTOR said, NOT GIVING US THE ACTUAL COST! I was already going to take her to animal friends of the Valley because they do it for no more than $100 but $200 for a next day surgery, why not? So I did it, gave a $100 deposit, left my dog and front desk lady says just bring the extra $58-$98 when it's done, so I'm thinking the total procedure should cost a total of $158-$198 right? Nope, they call me saying the dog is ready to go and it's a total of $430 fucking dollars. No one mentioned that in the first place or I would've never done with with them, then the doctor has the audacity to say "I have bills to pay, I need to make a living" and shady shit like that. Nothing against the vets, but who they chose to cremate the animals. We took our two deceased dogs to be cremated. They said they make paw prints of the dogs, which is cool, BUT it was a big mess up for us once we received them. Belle's paw is a little small, but Beau's is way bigger. We received a paw print that basically resembled a small dog or raccoon even on Beau while Belle's was pretty believable. How they didn't put the two together with how big of ashes box is beyond me (now becoming somewhat questionable being switched as well). And Beau's ash box is bigger than all of them combined so who knows if the ashes are a mix of multiple dogs or not. They offered to fix Beau's and we did, but in the end it was still wrong. They don't keep a record of the prints in case. So we probably still have a print of someone else's dog. I know it sucks, but friendly advice of your pets, make an ink print of them to have too. And/Or cremate them elsewhere perhaps. read more

We brought in our older cat to possibly be put down. She was 21 years old. We called to see what the charge was, and they said $65. After a short talk with a vet.... and she was weighed and temp taken ..... we decided to put her down. When we left, the charge was $113. They said this was due to the fact there was a little exam before our decision. They just took her temp and weight, and talked with us for about 4-5 minutes. Wow.... Also, we waited almost an hour after our appt. time for them to see our cat.. They were nice and polite...... but over-charging and over-booked. read more

Very rarely can you find a doctor, for animals or humans, that is so knowlegable and thorough with technical intricacies along with being compassionate & empathetic as well. Usually they are capable in one spectrum or the other, but not both. But not when it comes to Dr. Kolta- she has both spectrums down pat. After having been to many Veterinarians for more than 13 years before coming to Sun City Vet Clinic (3 times to date), I have come to find that Dr. Kolta is in the finest caliber of Veterinarian, in my experience. Dr. Kolta has also shown that she cares about the best interest of the animal rather than being most interested in racking up charges on your credit card. The costs are much less expensive than many others. Dr. Kolta knows how to take care of the necessary diagnostics, where as sometimes others want to do things that are not necessary just for the money. (I'm sure we've all come across businesses like those.) I feel safe leaving my dog in her care and she has shown how trustworthy she is. Dr. Kolta is all that and the cat's meow. She used to be caring and compassionate but she has changed. I've gone to her for 16 years she had changed for the worst. When one of her employees gave my cat shots. She started to do bad things. I called her and asked if shot given wrong could cause her to throw up not hold anything down she said yes. But refused to believe they did this. So she charged me $75 to re hydrate her which only made her suffer for 2 more days. I called to have her put down she wouldn't even say she would help with the cost since it was their fault. I was kind of surprised to see the clinic have such bad reviews, as I actually drive 1.5hrs out each way just to come here. Dr. Lackner is an absolute saint and a blessing to all of her furry patients. I currently have three elderly chihuahuas who see her. Our most recent visit here, one of them was very sick. Dr. Lackner was extremely patient and walked us through all of our options, including euthanasia if our dog had kidney failure. Luckily, Dr. Lackner was quick on the blood results and realized that our dog most likely had pancreatitis as more of the issue, rather than kidney failure. After 3 days of IVs overnight, my dog was feeling way better and was sent home on a special diet with some meds. Overall, Dr. Lackner and all of the vet techs here are awesome! I was worried about leaving my dog so far for a few days, but they kindly provided me updates when I called and even let us visit her!
