I have mixed feeling about the trip to the Glacier. Don't know if that is something that I would have booked myself. It's a "cool" idea to be up on a Glacier, but it can also be a bit anticlimactic. You get driven out there in these hard "big as earth mover" buses, then parked, left to wander for 20 mins, then back on the noisy transports. Then there is the environmental impact of being up there, and the fact that climate change is already doing a job on the glaciers. Without waxing to much philosophy, one could say that about the entire travel industry. Anyways, it was a beautiful day, lots of sunshine, fresh air (once they turned off the diesels engines), the glacier and surrounding area is a treasure, and I was among people I love. The sauce that came with the MOUNTAINEER RIB-EYE STEAK was super delicious, adding more flavor to the meat. However, the sauce for the RANGER'S TENDERLOIN was avocado salsa verde, which I wasn't quite used to, so I ended up eating the meat plain. A lot of people do as they de-train, stay awhile and catch a future train towards Vancouver. The Vancouver - Kamloops or the much more expensive (and Lux) Rocky Mountaineer will show you the stunning scenery to come. Gayle and I were off the train for only an hour or so which we used to walk, browse for tchotchkes, grab a sweet roll and coffee, and just take it all in. I've been here separately (by car) and wish we had that kind of time.

They keep a fire going so we got to enjoy sitting around the fire for a bit both nights we were there. There is a restaurant and bar on the property. I didn't get any food but they offered a small sangria welcome drink. The rooms are pretty comfortable and have a fridge but no microwave. I did find a small spider near my bed though. We also saw a few elk around the property which was cool!

Staff helped direct us to plenty of nearby locations that largely avoided impacts from the wildfire and retained much (or all) of their natural splendor--if you are worried about not being able to see much, don't be--come to Jasper and stay at Pine Bungalows. The cabin itself was very well maintained, smelled wonderful, and came packed with great tea and coffee. We were stocked daily with firewood, starters, and kindling that supported our s'more-eating habit. Our neighbor cabin guests, and all of the cleaning staff we met, were all kind and helpful. Our check-in staff member's handwritten directions on a lodge-provided map (attached) led us to several days of extraordinary beauty. She (Name = Strawberry) told us that Maligne Lake was pristine -- and we saw bald eagles, black bear cubs, and grizzly cubs with mom from the safety of our car. She said Pyramid Lake was beautiful, and we basked in the rich meadow trails and overlooks over several pristine lakes, including Pyramid Lake, and visited the wedding island to top it off. She encouraged us to take the tram up to Whistlers Mountain or drive to Mt. Robson--we did both (and Kinney Lake), and were left speechless both times. In other words, she helped us see Jasper and the surrounding area for what it truly is, and not just its recent disaster. We look forward to returning. A note on wildlife and the surrounding area. Magpies and cow elk frequently came right up to the cabin's perimeter. A coyote was seen outside the Bungalow's property, but never came close to the cabin (by visual, scat, or print). If you are trying to see wildlife, this is a great spot to use as your base of operations. There is a very occasional odor from the nearby water treatment facility, but it will last seconds for every hour you are outside so don't let that influence your decision. Can't recommend this business enough! Help Jasper recover and stay here!

It's one of our favourite places in Jasper! You can…read morecompletely disconnect yourself since there is almost no signal there! :) It's beside the hot spring so if you stay in cabins, it's easy to walk there. The cabins are old but beautiful and cozy. The only issue we have is: our cat who travels with us and they don't allow cats. Their restaurant is awesome! A Greek family is running the restaurant and I have had the best Greek food here! Everything is delicious and high quality! If you don't want the Greek food, they have delicious pizzas and burgers too. In general, I always make sure visiting them when I'm in Jasper and I highly recommend this business! :)

Due to a mixup with hotel reservations in Jasper, we found this "resort" through a Google search…read more I'm so glad that we stayed here...the cabins are nestled in the mountains just down the road from the hot springs, and the surroundings are breathtaking. We stayed in a 2 bedroom bungalow. While not a true 2 bedroom (there are no doors separating the spaces, just sliding plastic curtains), it more then met our needs. There was an eat-in kitchen, bathroom, living room, fireplace...it's rustic but very charming. There is no TV (as you're nestled in the mountains with limited reception), so you may have to talk to your traveling companions (we were still early in our trip so we were still at that point...lol). Check-in was a breeze. Finding our cabin was a breeze. We visited their on-site store to purchase some playing cards, and they had none...but the person at the counter offered us a deck to borrow. It's literally a mom and pop kinda place, with very friendly staff. As it's a good 20-30 minutes outside of Jasper (the drive off the highway to the bungalows is worth it alone), we opted to dine at the on-site restaurant. Service, food, quality, and ambiance were all excellent (who knew you could find greek food in the middle of nowhere). We were told by our server that the resort had just reopened a few weeks earlier, as a storm washed out the only road into and out of the area. The only negative I could think of is that we only booked one night... would have lived to stay for another night or two. Two thumbs up
