I had a very concerning and upsetting experience at Sun Tan City. Since it had been about 10 years since my last visit, I was told to only use the tanning bed for six minutes. While I was in the bed, I could tell something didn't feel right with the timing. I lifted the bed early, only to see the timer was already over 9 minutes and still running. I immediately got out and went to the front desk to report the issue. Afterward, I went to my spray tan room, but when I passed by the same tanning room a few minutes later, the bed was still running. That's a serious safety concern and should never happen. To make matters worse, when I asked about protective goggles, I was told they weren't necessary. Now I'm dealing with eye pain. This experience left me feeling unsafe and extremely frustrated. I expected proper guidance and functioning equipment, but instead I'm dealing with the consequences of what feels like negligence. read more

Such a friendly environment to be in and the staff is always amazing. The facility is super clean and I never have any issues.

I have not tanned at sun tan city since 2016. I came in on 2/4 to reopen a membership and was completely shocked by one of the employees behavior. Judging by name tags while standing in line, I saw Jaclyn disrespect and yell at her co worker multiple times. She was SO rude it was unbelievable. The other girl kept her calm and continued to do her job while Jaclyn kept going. I was extremely uncomfortable and ended up leaving. Although this was indeed my first visit to a tanning salon. I made some calls to their main number, read the reviews and talked directly on the phone to the desk people to ask exactly what & how spray tanning was done. I was a bit skeptical because of the poor review rating....I was not going to be over sold or sold what I didn't want/need. I was pleasantly surprised that I experienced none of that! My sales desk girls was so pleasant, informative, helpful and not at all pushy! She explained everything thoroughly and don't mind when I asked repeat questions. She gets an A+! I was a bit disappointed that the room & spray tanning booth was Very Very noisy so much that when getting into the booth I couldn't really hear what the instructions were/when/how I was to move?! Also the instruction photos posted on the outside wall as to how you were the poise yourself were so small and so far away I couldn't really see it very well. This is why the 4 score. I usually love this place it's the only location I'll visit. The girls are really sweet. However I went yesterday and paid a substantial amount to use the instant bed. I brought my boyfriend in he had never been there, I referred him and he had a VIP pass to try any bed. Somehow he was charged 35$ to lay in the instant bed which is insane. I should have stayed at the counter with him to ensure she honored first time tan free but it was packed and there was a wait for the beds. I just don't understand this,I had never seen this young lady before,but if she is employed there she shouldn't be so negligent. read more

This is one of my favorite locations to tan at! The staff is always very friendly and they aren't very pushy about getting you to buy things which I like. I don't like feeling pressured to buy things. They do tell me about specials if they have any going on, which is nice to know! It is always clean. I don't usually have to wait but maybe a couple minutes if there are other customers checking in. read more

The associate that assisted me when I went in today (I hadn't been in a few weeks) so she recommended a double-dip and I said "okay this one time I will to see results today I'm kind of in a hurry I have an appointment". So she proceeded to try to sell me hundreds of dollars worth of products I didn't need. When I said I wasn't spending that much on things I didn't want or need she kept on and on about how these products were good for spray tanning and why when I don't even spray tan. I ended up leaving so I wouldn't be late for my appointment without even tanning because she kept trying to push products on me. Worst service I've EVER had. I will not be renewing my membership and will tell people not to waste their money there. read more

This location is the best that I have been to in the Knoxville area. The facilities are clean and well maintained, and the beds are very modern. The staff is friendly and competent. It is true that they will try to sell you lotion and memberships, and they check your eyewear (as do all SunTanCity locations, so just bring some eyewear, it won't kill ya). However, they are rarely if ever pushy. Usually I come in for an individual tan, often when they run specials, and the staff are very nice and welcoming. Also, I have only had to wait more than a couple minutes one time. Many times I come in there's no line and no wait for a bed. I have strayed from this location a couple of times and been disappointed. I'll stick to here from now on! read more

I thought this place was great until they had my money and didn't give me what I was promised twice. They aren't concerned with customer experience. They just get as much money as they can from you and then they are done with you. I'm a reasonable guy and don't ever complain much about services in fact this is the first review I've ever posted. The staff at the Maryville, TN Sun Tan City is awesome! They always make me feel welcome and like they truly value my business. In fact, many times they welcome me by name! Wesley and Melissa are especially great! This is the worst experience I have ever had doing business with a tanning salon in 30 years. I was not informed about the additional 10% tax on top of the state tax for tanning services. Taxes were nearly 20% I was promised discounts on products for being a first time customer that were never given. I was misled to believe that I was signing a consent form for a electronic payment that could be cancelled at any time. After I tried to cancel I was then told that it would cost $100. The manager actually told me that I shouldn't sign things that I don't understand. I was never told I was signing a contract. The staff was rude and told me that I couldn't cancel whenever I wanted that it was mandatory for them to draft one full month in addition to the partial month I'd already paid for. They refused to give information about who to contact with my complaint and instead gave me their tech support phone number. I strongly recommend that you not do business with this company. I never post on yelp but they were so rude I needed to say something. read more

I actually enjoy tanning at this salon location. I am commenting on the customer service via telephone (I'm assuming it's a corporate client service line). I purchased upgrade points the other day at this location and my bank account was double charged. This is obviously a technology malfunction, not the employees that are working at the salon's fault. However, when I spoke with client services about the issue they told me that once corporate reviews my request for a refund (no telling how long that will take), that my refund will take at least 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS to process. Let me remind you, this is not being dissatisfied with a product or service... this is THEIR FAULT I WAS DOUBLE CHARGED $50 DOLLARS. I'm a single mother, whos cell phone bill was also due the next day and they have caused my bank account to overdraft. I am now stuck until my next paycheck with no money all thanks to Sun Tan City. I have to tell my daughter that I'm sorry we cannot go buy the food she wants from the grocery store because I have to wait on CORPORATE from SUN TAN CITY to process my refund at THEIR CONVENIENCE!!!!!! I will NEVER purchase anything from the salon again outside of my monthly membership and have honestly considered cancelling my membership after this experience. Worst Sun Tan City Location. I strongly disagree with the comment below me. The employees here are nice, however they are extremely pushy and always try to sell something. They also make small talk an inappropriate amount. I am usually rushed or in a hurry when I go to tan, and last time I tanned here, they talked to me for at least 10 minutes before even letting me go back to the bed. I recently moved to the Maryville area in Tennessee from Florida. I've lived in Florida for most of my life and never thought I would need to go to a tanning salon so of course I was very hesitant in my decision on where to tan. There are a few places around here but I had heard some good feedback about sun tan city. When I went in to ask about beds and pricing, the young man that helped me was very understanding of my hesitation from never tanning indoors before. He made me feel very welcome and even made me laugh! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! I was a little overwhelmed with all the information he was telling me, but he put it in a way that I could understand. In the end he gave the best deals on my membership and lotion. I am very happy with my products and laying in that tanning bed for the first time was awesome! I would recommend this place to everyone! They really know how to make you feel at ease (even if you are as clueless as me.) read more
