I'm new to the whole spray tan process so didn't know what to expect, I did expect someone competent to instruct me but that didn't happen. I was given the bare minimum instructions and shown to a room. I wasn't even told how to turn on the machine. After calling the front desk to ask for help I was told to press the button which I already had several times, I proceeded to try again with no response from their machine after asking for help a second time I was made to feel like an idiot. These people need to learn how to cater to new customers that have never used this process before. Very unprofessional. Would not recommend their services. read more

I feel it's important to warn any potential customers about Sun Tan City's horrible business practices. During a visit to Dalton for a wedding my Fiancée and I decided to tan. We both purchased a two tan session package. The first session went well. The next day we came back for our second tan. A few minutes through it, the bed shut off. I ended up coming out of the room to inform the front desk and they said "we thought we had fixed that bed". They said they could not let me move to another bed due to some law and complete my session. I requested a refund for the 2nd session and they said that wound be possible but a manager had to initiate the refund. They called the manager who said the money would be refunded to my card in two weeks. After two and a half weeks I checked my card and no refund had been initiated. I called and they now said corporate would get back to me. That call never happened. I now have disputed 1/2 the charge via my credit card company and they are actually fighting it. It was never about the money, but the ethics behind the situation. read more

I have used this business for a couple of months now. I would actually give them a better score if not for the staff. Every time I've been in I've had to wait to be signed in. I'm not an impatient person but they are sharks when it comes to tanning lotions and everyone gets the pushy sales pitch that walks in the door. This includes pulling the lotions from the shelf opening them and asking you to smell each individually even though you've said no. There maybe only 1 person signing people in and when I went in recently she waited until there were 6 of us waiting in line before calling up another worker. If you can tolerate the sales pitches every time you go you might find the beds to be enjoyable. read more

Sun Bed City in Dalton, GA appears to have poor and unethical business practices. Not to mention terrible customer service. I recently signed up for a monthly package (pay by the month) because I didn't need or want a long-term commitment. The young lady that signed me up was very nice. However, in hindsight she seemed new to her job and obviously misinformed me of how the monthly packages work. I joined on June 10th so I paid a pro-rated monthly amount. I clearly asked when I could cancel the membership, as I have a trip planned for July and knew that I would not want to pay for an additional month. I was told that as long as I informed them that I wanted to cancel prior to the first of the month that I would not be charged. On my second visit, the following day, a different young lady suggested that I change beds. I was still building my base tan, as I am light skinned, and building up on the amount of time I spent in the bed. The bed the girl suggested had more intense "burning " bulbs and said I should go up two more minutes. I questioned this, but because they are suppose to be the experts I took the recommendation. That was a huge mistake. I burned and could not go back to tan until the following Saturday. When I explained what happened they said they could not do anything except give me a free spray tan. I stated that I don't use spray tans. Then they said they would call their Client Services while I tanned and would let me know when I got out what they could do. When I finished tanning I asked and they said there was nothing except for a free tan session, but I said I didn't need a spray tan. At this point I was speaking to someone else and she very hatefully said, "it's not a spray tan, it's a regular tanning bed that we would put on your account". When I said, "I thought you were going to contact your Client Services, she said, "no, you can". Then she proceeded to blame me and stated that I signed their agreement so it's my fault I got burned. You never actually see the contract, you just sign an electronic pad. At that point I said that I just wanted to go ahead and cancel my membership. This hateful woman proceeded to tell me that I couldn't that I had to pay for another month. I explained that was not was I was told. She didn't care and said I would have to call Client Services. I then called their Client Services. That was a joke. I held forever and when I finally got to speak with someone, she put me on hold for a long time. I then find out that she was calling the Dalton Sun Tan City location. I guess she was verifying what I told her. Essentially, I got the same response, in that I signed an agreement and would have to pay for July as well and then I could cancel. I asked for a copy of my contract and was told they couldn't send it to me that I would have to ask the Dalton location for it. All I've got is the runaround treatment and blamed for tanning too long and told that I should have read the agreement (the one that you never actually see or can get a copy of). I asked to speak to someone who had the authority to assist me with my issue. They first said there wasn't anyone, but as I pressed them they finally said they could have their District Manager call me on Monday or Tuesday. We will see if that happens. Basically, Sun Tan City doesn't properly train their employees nor do they provide correct or consistent information or comply with their own tanning guidelines. There are plenty of other local tanning places that do not require a membership nor a membership fee. If you are into scams, then this is the place for you. If not, avoid them! read more
