High pressure to sell you packages. Stopped in last year to hit a tanning booth three times before I went on a vacation in the sun, no problems then. Stopped back to set up a few one-off tans for the same reason. Got a 15 minute high-pressure sales pitch. Listened patiently, then explained that we just wanted a few single events. The representative launched into another high pressure sales pitch. We walked away, and are unlikely to return. It's too bad; they have nice equipment but they have taken to pitching it as though they are timeshare sales reps. read more

This morning I was planning on having a relaxing start to my day and getting a spray tan, but instead I was met with one of the nastiest employees I've ever encountered. She was smug, condescending, rude, and overall an absolute displeasure to deal with. From the second I walked in, I felt completely unwelcome and like my presence was inconveniencing her. The entire experience made me never want to return and remain pale (and I'm an SEC sorority girl so that is a BIG statement). I even told my friend to hurry up with her spray tan because I felt so uncomfortable sitting in the lobby alone with this employee. And when I told her I wanted Catalina Dark, she looked at me like I had four heads. If this salon wants to keep customers coming back, they seriously need to reevaluate who they have representing the business. On another note...spray tan did slay so shout out to yall for that but that was with no help of your employee and her nasty attitude. read more

I usually love sun tan city but the girl I was greeted with at this location put a big fat damper in my day. She acted as if I personally ruined her day by coming into the store. She had no good customer service qualities, was rude, and not helpful whatsoever. Honestly I don't know why she works in customer service when her personality and attitude is giving off that she would rather be anywhere else. A employee got visibly upset with me after I kindly refused to buy the millions of products and services she was trying to sell me. I understand it is company policy for employees to try and sell as much as possible, but how pushy this company got (especially this location), is getting absurd. I don't want to feel embarrassed for upsetting an employee for simply not helping her achieve her commission goals, because not once was I harsh or rude to her. read more

Everything that Sun Tan City does is for their benefit and not yours. They are expensive, claim to go over all of the fine print with customers but do not, sneak charges onto your account without full knowledge of what the charges are for, and difficult to reach via customer service. Not only that, but it takes forever to get a decent tan from their beds. I will go elsewhere. read more

After year and years since they came to Knoxville of being member here I will no longer return to this rude place. I had paid my monthly membership here and was told my employee I could not tan until I updated my account even thoe my monthly membership was paid. I did not have my account information with me, I had left my phone on my desk at office, to run and tan. She refused to let me tan, I ask to see manager and she said nothing manager can do and manager in meeting, i them ask her to get customer service on phone and she then said who is that. After standing and arguing her saying yes you are paid but cannot tan, until you give me all your information again. I ask again to get management she said my god and behold the manager was eating! She said you can tan and hit button on computer, I said why have I been standing here arguing over this for 34 mins. I said no cancel my membership now, and no even paid for month I will never return! Next day I just went a bought a tanning bed for spare room! Shitty place and idiot employees. I paid $60 for 5 minutes in a tanning bed, including a small packet of lotion. The tanning bed tarted before I was even in it and I only ended up getting about 1 minute in there. The people did not give me a refund or a re try at all. Although the workers where very sweet it's ridiculously over priced. read more

It was my first time at sun tan city and i went to get a spray tan. They said it would be a 45 minute wait. I decided i would run to chick fil a to get something to eat while i wait. i came right back and waited then was approached by a staff member saying that i was removed from this list because it was "policy". I had to rewait to get a spray tan I already paid for. No one informed me of this policy. They said i was informed when signing up through the system when i was supposed to sign a consent form. However, i never did sign a form and this was my first time. This places management sucks. read more

I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews of this place, but I have tanned at both Broadway Fountain City and Powell and I've had good experiences at both locations. They are clean, with friendly staff and fair pricing. I have no complaints and am grateful to have nice facilities so close to home! read more

I live West so I go to the one on Kingston Pike in bearden I went there last year and the young ladies that were working was great!! I went last night and Elena assisted me and she was able to explain about all their products was able to tell me about the products and was so professional and was trying to get me the best for my money it was clean everybody is so sweet and so respectful and I love going there!!!! Horrible experience! I have been a member of Suntan City since Raley's Tanning Salon on Maynardville Highway in Halls closed around 2010. When Suntan City took over all of Raley's clients, I was placed on the lowest level UV package and have remained there ever since. Over the years I would purchase "points" to use to upgrade to a higher level UV tanning bed and eventually to use the spray tan. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, I visited the Powell location. After being assigned the room to receive my spray tan, the ASD (Assistant Salon Director) called me on the room phone to inform me that I would have to pay for the spray tan. I informed the ASD that I was using my "points". After some discussion, the ASD informed me that unless I paid I wasn't going to get a spray tan. She also stated that the former manager of the Fountain City location, who is now the District/area Supervisor, "should know better" than allow me to use points for spray tanning when they are for UV tanning only. I had a horrible day at work that day and was hoping for a relaxing time at the tanning salon. Instead, I was treated like I was unaware of the guidelines of purchasing "points" for UV vs. spray tan. If the ASD had taken the time to look at my purchase history she would have seen that I have used points every time I have spray tanned for years. As I left the salon, the ASD was smirking and laughing with her co-workers. The next evening I visited the Fountain City location. My account has the correct purchased "points" for UV tanning and spray tanning. A Suntan City Member of 14+ years should be treated with respect and kindness. read more

I spoke with Justin (the manager?) that is always there last month to freeze my account for the summer. He told me he did so as I watched him doing something on the computer but I was then charged anyways. Suntan City is a horrible company, they have no way to contact anyone at any of their stores. Of Sun Tan City locations I have been to, this is the worst. The staff is very pushy, rude, and stingy. If you go in with a deal or special, this location will try not to honor it, or try to add exclusions that are unnecessary. I went in for Free tan week and at first they refused to admit they were even offering free tans!! Finally when I point blank asked the associate if she was going to charge me for a fast bed (which is free during tan week) she said I could lay in there for free - FOR THREE MINUTES!! And that she would refuse to bump the time up even if I came back every day that week. When I went to another Sun Tan City location and told them this story (which they could see was true on my account that I had only gotten 3 minutes) they laughed. Don't judge the whole chain by this location please, but avoid this one like the plague. read more

I love Sun Tan City. I have nothing but positive things to say about the people that work for the company. Today was my first visit to this location. The staff was AMAZING!! Like change your whole day for the better amazing. I walk in and created by smiles and bubbly attitude. I am horrible with names but the two guys at the front are who helped me. I happen to overhear what sounded like training as I was leaving my room and I loved what I was hearing and how serious they take their job. Way to go guys! Literally you all made my day. be careful when they tell you pricing, come in prepared, look online for your location because i was told my one time visit would be around $20 more expensive than described online for my specific location. i'm pretty sure the front desk just straight lied about it, watch out for the up charge or attempts to get you to buy more in a "package" that would be "the same price as one", i should've known at that point. but if your prepared the machines do the rest of the work and it's fine. I also tried to call during store hours and they turned had their phone off. Membership prices like theirs also aren't common everywhere, it is extremely expensive to upkeep a membership here. read more

Garbage place. I did a package here and when my card expired they charged me $175 fine for not letting them know. I have had this happen at other establishments using a CC and when it has expired they kindly remind me and then put the new card in for payment. No issues, No problem. Well... I take back my previous, delighted review. After I tanned at this location for a month in preparation for a wedding, I canceled my subscription. I noticed that there was a TWO HUNDRED dollar charge pending on my credit card today (a month after cancelling my subscription). Upon calling customer service, they told me there was nothing they can do and that the salon has no record of my cancellation. How convenient! So I'm out $200 for a service I didn't receive because I believed my membership was canceled when I had a physical conversation with one of the girls there, signed paperwork, etc. These people are criminals. I'm praying my membership is now canceled, but I am now cancelling my credit card just to ensure that these crooks aren't going to continue stealing money. Disgusting business. I will be sure to NEVER use this company again and would heavily urge others to do the same. I so wish I could give you zero stars, suntan city. read more

I will go to the Sun Tan city that's on Broadway or the one out by the mall (my ABSOLUTE favorite) any day of my life before I had to step foot in this location again. The manager that had long hair with a balding receding hairline is aggressive and he could be right in front of you at the computer and you were at the front door and he will yell at you like as if you are a mile or more away "I WILL BE WITH YOU IN A SECOND!!!!!" right in front of my face. They are pushy about trying to get you to buy things, even though you're only coming in to do the level bed that you already pay for monthly. I will straight up tell them I'm only trying to do the fastest (what I pay for monthly) and they will try to get me to spend at least $50-$100 one way or another before I can even go back to tan in the bed that I I came in for in the first place!!!! Everyone there has a terrible attitude and if they spoke to me like that out in public, there would be real issues at hand. I don't know why they think disrespecting people will help them in sales or in any aspect of a business. I would give them a -5/10. One star for this review is too much. read more

I absolutely love the girls at Sun Tan City, Bearden location. They know me by name and take the extra time to see how I'm doing. They also ask how my day or weekend was. Love all the girls, Dana you're comical and so sweet. But I have to give kudos to my favorite Jackie. She always takes the time to talk to me and if I'm having a bad day or just not doing good, she talks to me and I always get a hug. I've sent to 2 other locations but Bearden is my favorite store. Love all you guys. Employees don't always stay because most of them are college students and I honestly have been heart broken to lose them. The new ones have big shoes to fill and I've been happy with everyone. Love you guys, you're part of my family. read more

They will charge you unknowingly for products and memberships and pressure you into signing contracts without letting you read the documents. Sun Tan City are tricky sneaky criminals. The people at the front desk do a good job up-selling even when it is super busy BUT when it comes to taking care of the customer's needs and it does not benefit them, they want you out of the way. When I unfroze my account, and signed up for a 6-month membership, the representative assisting me was the only one at the desk and there was a line of people behind me. I had questions and I could tell he was getting overwhelmed so I offered to step aside and let him assist others. He declined. Bad mistake. Mind you, I have had several memberships with STC and clearly there has been a policy change that the representative failed to make me aware of... you must call or go by the store to cancel your membership otherwise, you will continue to be charged monthly. Hey STC, here is a thought, call it an "Indefinite Membership" if you continue to charge past 6 months! Now, signing the "6th month membership" contract was my biggest mistake and I kick myself for it because I know better than to EVER do this. You see, there is no print out of your contract, no screen for you to review it on, all you get is a briefing from the representative and you sign for it on a pad at the desk. Do you think my overwhelmed representative made sure he told me all the details of my contact? Nope. And don't even think about contacting them through their chat. Once your connected to an agent the first message you will receive is "due to high volume it may be awhile before I can respond." So, you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, then when they message you and you do not immediately respond, they disconnect from the chat! HIRE MORE AGENTS, there should be no reason a paying client does not have your full attention! When you are paying premium prices, you should receive premium service. Anyway, it's been a hassle to get reimbursed and when you're dealing with a company on the same customer service level as Comcast its exhausting. Rest assured STC, I will never be back and I will make it my duty to be sure everyone I meet knows my experience. Save yourself the headache and DON'T TAN HERE! read more

GO HERE!!! I was a member at Palm Beach Tan and got referred over to Sun Tan City when Palm Beach closed and they could not have been more pleasant to deal with! The staff is so friendly, the place has good beds, reasonable prices, and it's really clean. They crush it with customer service, offering tons of incentives and promotions for those of us that got kinda pinched over by Palm Beach's sudden shutdown, and they are just so sweet to interact with. Both times I have been here there has been a queue, which I understand would probably get frustrating. It takes about 5-7 minutes to get through the line at the desk then about 5 more minutes if you have to wait for a bed. I will have to try the app/website for this whole checking the wait time feature they offer. By the way, did I mention how nice the staff is?! read more

I just moved back to Kn. My favorite person at the tanning salon is Allie. I had not used suntan city. Allie was so kind and very helpful explaining the deals and promotions there. She always greets her customers and is a very pleasant person. Its nice to be greeted by name when you come in. Really am greatful for her help. I just wanted everyone to know the experience I had with Sun Tan City. I went in wanting to buy only 2 sessions of spray tan. I made it perfectly clear to the girl that's all I wanted. I paid with my cc, I used the two sessions and now am being billed for a monthly account. When I called customer service they were not helpful and proceeded to tell me I have entered into a contract. I asked to talk to upper management and they refused and told me management was too busy to talk to me and besides that they would tell me the same thing that she just did!! This is not except able to me. I will never use Sun Tan City ever again and I would recommend anyone else not to. read more

I was a member of Palm Beach and switched over when they closed. SUN TAN CITY IS SO MUCH BETTER. I have had a much better experience all around in comparison! Great customer service. They obviously try to sell you products, but in my experience that happens everywhere. But they are genuinely nice people and they care that we have good experiences there. Since switching I've been much happier! The hours are also more convenient than Palm Beach's were. read more
